DC SHOOTS FOR #1 in SEPTEMBER!

Let their be an end to the fan speculation…DC has confirmed that post-FLASH POINT, DC will be relaucnhing it’s entire line with all new #1 issues.

First up is JUSTICE LEAGUE #1, by GEOFF JOHNS and JIM LEE. Yeah, that sounds pretty big…and potentially late…but pretty damned big, none-the-less. The line-up for this new JLA? Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, and Aquaman.  JUSTICE LEAGUE #1 is one of only 2 DC titles shipping August 31st, the other being FLASHPOINT #5, the end of the event and springboard for the new relaunch. ACcording to DC, 50 more titles will be relaunched with #1 issues in Sept.

But, this isn’t DC’s ONLY announcement for September. DC will be making issues of all the renumbered  titles available digitally through apps and the DC Digital website the same day they arrive in comic shops. This is the first time a major comics publisher has done so with its main titles.

InvestComics’ Deadly Tales: One and Done – Guidelines + Rules

Be a Part of InvestComics’ “Deadly Tales: One and Done” Charitable Anthology

Support a good comic creator cause while having some bloody good fun!

InvestComics is proud to launch “Deadly Tales: One and Done!” – a unique short-graphic tale anthology with 100% of sales proceeds going to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. We need talented, good-hearted creators to make it happen … and get some great exposure and potentially win some cool prizes. Intrigued? Read on …

About the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund:

InvestComics will be donating 100% of the proceeds to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund (CBLDF). CBLDF is a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of the First Amendment rights of the comics art form and its community of retailers, creators, publishers, librarians and readers. The CBLDF provides legal referrals, representation, advice, assistance and education in furtherance of these goals.

We are working with a printer with a web storefront so individuals can purchase the book online. After the anthology is published, with each sale, we will donate all proceeds to CBLDF (minus printer expenses).

Here’s the premise:

· Create a one-page black-and-white comic story

· Story must have three common elements:

o Limited to one page

o Have mortality or death as a central theme

o Someone bites the dust in the last panel (either shown or implied)

· Story may be any fiction genre: horror, super hero, fantasy, comedy, etc.

· No profanity, racist remarks, or pornographic elements

· No using real people – fiction, fiction, fiction!

· Story cannot exceed one page and must be clearly legible with no typos

· Story title and credits must appear on page (preferably in first panel)

Here are the rules:

· Email your completed story by August 14, 2011 to 1anddone@investcomics.com

· All entries must be complete and meet anthology specs (don’t send us “concepts” to see if we like them – only finished one-page tales will be judged)

· Up to 100 stories will be selected

· If selected, you will receive a waiver whereby you keep the story rights but you grant InvestComics first print rights to your story in electronic and print format for perpuity (that’s forever, folks!). In short, we are the first to publish your work, and we can print it for as long as desired in support of the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund.

· THERE IS NO PAYMENT … but the anthology will be published, we will do our best to promote the hell out of it, and you will be doing your part to help protect creator First Amendment rights.

· Because we will be including up to 100 stories in the book, we cannot provide complimentary copies (which could total as many as 300 books mailed out to every writer, artist and letterist selected – no can do!).

· However, we will be giving away great collectible gifts to random “winners” from the creator teams which will donated from local businesses such as Tate Comics – recognized by the Will Eisner Spirit Awards as one of the best retail comic stores in the world!

· We also will be interviewing several of the contributors to appear on ICTV.

Here are the specs:

· TIFF file, 300 DPI

· Trim size – 6.75 inches x 10.25 inches; Full bleed size – 7 inches x 10.5 inches
Note: Final art must be submitted as FULL BLEED SIZE

· Name your file by story name (for example: OneAndDone.tif)

· Email your file to 1anddone@investcomics.com with “Deadly Tales Submission” in the subject line; and wait for us to contact you if selected

We will be approaching a handful of industry legends as well as “up-and-coming” indie creators to submit, so if your story is selected you will not only be supporting a wonderful cause, you will be in great company which will be sure to provide maximum exposure. Plus you could win some cool collectible prizes and appear on ICTV.

So come on – show us your best, briefest work for Deadly Tales. We dare you to scare us … and join us in helping to protect our rights for freedom of speech and uninhibited artistic expression.

InvestComics’ Deadly Tales: One and Done Anthology

Submissions Open for InvestComics’ “Deadly Tales: One and Done!” Anthology

Publisher promises dire consequences in 100 single-page tales of death and demise, with 100% of profits going to Comic Book Legal Defense Fund.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
West Palm Beach, Florida
May 31, 2011 — FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(West Palm Beach, Florida; May 31, 2011) – Comic book and entertainment information website InvestComics has announced plans to publish its first graphic novel anthology with 100% of profits going to Comic Book Legal Defense Fund (CBLDF). Submissions are now open for the collection, called Deadly Tales: One and Done!, which will feature 100 single-page tales by established and emerging comic book stars.

“Comic creators are amongst the most generous souls on the planet, and they are constantly being asked to contribute free work,” says Jay Katz, President and Founder of InvestComics. “The goal of this anthology is simple: Provide a fun, creative challenge that doesn’t require too much effort but will hopefully yield a powerful collection of work and benefit CBLDF.”

Although the book provides a great opportunity for new indie comic creators to get exposure, it will also include established comic stars covering many genres.

“We’ll be reaching out to established creators whom we’ve featured on our website and our InvestComics TV channel, as well as some of our favorite indie creators,” says Katz. “While we won’t be providing payment for the submissions, we will be offering several exciting fringe benefits … not to mention we will print, publish and promote the book out of our own pockets with 100% of any profits going to CBLDF.

Tate’s Comics in Lauderhill Florida will be providing 10 collectible prizes to 10 lucky contributors to the anthology. Tates Comics has been in business 18 years, and is a force within the comic book community. InvestComics TV will also be interviewing several contributors from the “Dead Tales” anthology.

“Comic Book Legal Defense Fund is all about First Amendment rights” says Katz. “And InvestComics wholly endorses freedom of speech and creative expression – CBLDF is a true cause that we are proud to support.”

InvestComics will also be publicizing the anthology with like-minded comic book websites, including Matt Bergin’s Comics Cure. Katz says InvestComics also plans to run additional contests pertaining to the anthology, including running a cover contest.

“Although the anthology has a ‘death’ theme, in the end we are all about helping the living,” says Katz.

Anyone interested in being a part of “Deadly Tales: One and Done!” can go to the InvestComics website (www.investcomics.com) for full details on the project and rules for submission and guidelines.

About InvestComics

InvestComics™ started as a magazine in 2006; the first issue wasn’t released until June of 2007. The magazine was distributed as a free comic book Investment Guide throughout local comic shops in South Florida. It was also a giveaway on Ebay for any winning bid to receive with their order.

Although the InvestComics™ web site was on line in 2005, it wasn’t until 2007 the web site became the main focal point and the magazine ceased. InvestComics™ wanted to start reaching a broader audience and began to rapidly expand. InvestComics™ became the “Entertainment” Investment Guide as a result of covering many areas in the industry, focusing on entertainment as well as highlighting investment opportunities. Most recently the launch of InvestComics TV (ICTV) has made the site multi-media, attracting some of the biggest names in the industry to appear in a split-screen 10-12 minute interview format.

UNLOCK THE VAULT

UNLOCK THE VAULT
Image Comics Reunites Sarkar and Gastonny In New Series
Berkeley, CA – 19 May, 2011 – Image Comics is pleased to announce that writer Sam Sarkar and artist Garrie Gastonny (Warren Ellis’ Supergod), the team behind Caliber: First Canon of Justice, have reunited to unlock the horror and action within their new miniseries THE VAULT.
THE VAULT is about a small team of treasure hunters, struggling to excavate a dangerous and legendary treasure pit before a massive storm hits Sable Island, the “Graveyard of the North Atlantic.” Equipped with all the latest technology, the scientists believe they are prepared against all of nature’s fury, but nothing can prepare them for what they are about to unleash.
“THE VAULT is kind of a contemporary Pandora’s Box story,” explained creator and writer, Sam Sarkar. “Though it appears on the surface to be a pretty straightforward story, it has most of its mythology buried deeply. It gets uncovered both literally and figuratively as the pit gets excavated.”
When asked how THE VAULT found its home at Image, Sarkar replied: “Well, I’m incredibly fortunate that most of the lasting gifts of Caliber were the relationships it helped to cement. Chief among them, David Elliott. Dave and I have soldiered through quite a few storms personally and professionally, and when I asked him to edit THE VAULT, he didn’t hesitate. There are few people I trust as much. I asked Dave what he thought the best way to release THE VAULT would be and Image was at the top of his list of publishers to approach. I’ve always been a fan of Image, not just because of their model, but because of the quality of titles they have represented and continue to represent.”
THE VAULT #1 (1 of 3), a 32-page full color comic book, will be on sale in stores July 27th for $2.99 and is available to order in the June 2011 edition of Diamond Previews.

Space Dragon

OUTER SPACE PLATEAU
Erik Larsen’s Savage Dragon Hits Issue 175

BERKELEY, CA — 13 May, 2011 — Erik Larsen’s Savage Dragon is celebrating the 175th issue of his long-running Image Comics title this August… or is he? After being killed not once but three times in the past 30 issues, readers might be wondering if the green-skinned, fin-headed freak that awakes in SAVAGE DRAGON #175 to find himself rocketing through space is actually the real deal… but they’ll have to read this special 48-page anniversary issue to find out for sure!
“I’ve really run Dragon through the ringer over the last few years,” Larsen explained. “Even though he’d essentially been killed by a mind-and-body-snatching monster called Virus back in issue #147 and then again by Overlord in #150, when it came to wrapping up the ‘Emperor Dragon’ saga, it became pretty clear that even with all the body-switching shenanigans, things couldn’t just go back to the way they were.

“I knew he had to die… but what then? After focusing on Dragon’s son Malcolm for several issues, SAVAGE DRAGON #175 answers that question. Definitively, I hope!”
Written, penciled and inked by Larsen, with a Vanguard back-up story by writer Gary Carlson and artist Frank Fosco, SAVAGE DRAGON #175 promises to set the stage for the next several years’ worth of Dragon tales.
The story itself focuses both on Malcolm Dragon, as he faces his greatest challenge yet in the form of the nigh-omnipotent Overlord, while someone who looks an awful lot like his dead father tries to make sense of a new life and a new reality when he finds himself aboard a spaceship headed for parts unknown.

“There are some who confuse what Erik’s doing on SAVAGE DRAGON with standard rock ’em, sock ’em superhero stuff, but like Mark Millar’s Kick-Ass and Robert Kirkman’s INVINCIBLE, this is a series that constantly pushes the boundaries,” said Image Comics Publisher Eric Stephenson. “Very few superhero comics are as uncompromising or as propelled by change as SAVAGE DRAGON, and nearly 20 years after it first began, it’s still one of my favorite superhero comics ever.”

SAVAGE DRAGON #175 (JUN110478), a 48-page full color comic with a cover price of $4.99, is available for order in the June issue of Previews and will be on sale August 31.

SPIDER-ISLAND Battles The DEADLY HANDS OF KUNG FU

In the midst of battle, what call could be so urgent that it takes the Immortal Iron Fist and the Master of Kung Fu away from the side of The Avengers? Beware, The Bride of Nine Spiders now stalks the streets – but is she the cause or the key to a horrific plot than threatens to sink all of Spider-Island?

LEGACY OF SAMURAI’S BLOOD

Take Part in a New Samurai Journey and Bring Home Original Art
BERKELEY, CA – 13 May 2011 – Revenge, redemption, honor, and love shine in SAMURAI’S BLOOD, the new six-issue miniseries from Image Comics and Benaroya Publishing. Beginning in June, writer Owen Wiseman, in collaboration with interior artists Nam Kim and Matthew Dalton, along with cover artist Jo Chen, will introduce a tale of three young samurai battling their way through the world while hiding their identities in order to find their destinies. Readers can not only learn of the legacy of SAMURAI’S BLOOD, but they can now enter for a chance to take a piece of the journey home as well!
Wiseman explained, “We wanted to give fans who jump on board early a chance to win some one-of-a-kind art. It’s the fans really caring and paying attention that keeps us going, so we wanted to do something special for them.”
Before the journey of SAMURAI’S BLOOD begins, readers can join the SAMURAI’S BLOOD community on Facebook and Twitter to enter into a drawing for a chance to win an original interior page of SAMURAI’S BLOOD by Kim! There is no purchase necessary to enter; all you need to do is head to the SAMURAI’S BLOOD Facebook fan page at www.facebook.com/SamuraisBlood or follow @SamuraisBlood on Twitter and you are automatically entered to win. Two lucky winners (one from Facebook and one from Twitter) will be chosen at random on the day SAMURAI’S BLOOD #1 hits shelves.
In the first issue of SAMURAI’S BLOOD, the teenage samurais must flee as their village and all they’ve ever known burn to the ground behind them.  Headed for a city they’ve only heard about in stories, the three young samurai must struggle to maintain their lives and true identities in an era when lineage defined you. Will they rise on the tides of vengeance against the evil usurper who has destroyed the rest of their clan, or will they fall on the swords of fate?
SAMURAI’S BLOOD #1 (APR110406), a 32-page full color action adventure comic book priced at only $1.00 will be available in stores on June 8th.

Kevin Smith & Dynamite present “SIX MILLION DOLLAR” comics

KEVIN SMITH JOINS DYNAMITE ENTERTAINMENT TO LAUNCH THE BIONIC MAN COMIC BOOK SERIES!

The Bionic Man series to launch in August 2011!  Bionic Woman in 2012!
May 12, 2011 – Runnemede, NJ – Dynamite Entertainment is pleased to announce the latest legendary characters to join Dynamite’s roster of incredible properties – The Bionic Man and The Bionic Woman! Licensed by NBC Universal Television Consumer Products Group, both characters became pop culture icons in the 1970’s with their popular television programs!  After last year’s critically and commercially successful collaboration on the Green Hornet, Kevin Smith and Dynamite Entertainment are reuniting once again, with the creative team that brought the flagship Green Hornet series to fans; Phil Hester, Jonathan Lau, and Alex Ross on covers!  The Bionic Man is based on the Universal Television Series “The Six Million Dollar Man.”

“True story: when I turned in a script for The Six Million Dollar Man back in ’98, there was an exec who dismissed it as being more like a comic book than a movie,” said acclaimed film director and writer Kevin Smith.  “It’s an honor to head back into the trenches with the same creative team at Dynamite that made my Green Hornet script so readable and fun. It makes me moist.”

“I’m one of those kids who grew up with The Six Million Dollar Man toys all over my house,” said cover artist Alex Ross.  “I still prize them as one of the favorite parts of my youth for the amazing variety of things that Steve Austin could use or fight against.  The Six Million Dollar Man is one of the coolest original superhero properties invented for television.”

“When I heard about The Bionic Man, my initial thought was how to make him stand out from the rest of the cyborg genre, and that’s where my style comes into play,” said artist Jonathan Lau.  “Hopefully this will be a fun ride showcasing a more extreme play of action than I used to do!”

“I’m thrilled to help bring Kevin’s unique vision for Steve Austin and company,” said Phil Hester.  “Fans of the original will find all the classic elements they long for, while those hungry for new elements will get a healthy dose of bionic action for the 21st century.”

“I grew up LOVING The Bionic Man,” said Dynamite President and Publisher Nick Barrucci.  “As a child I wanted to be him, but since that hasn’t happened, the next best thing is publishing The Bionic Man. Dynamite will also be bringing The Bionic Woman to stores in 2012!  Wait until you see what we have planned!”

The Bionic Man is based on the Universal Television Series “The Six Million Dollar Man.” The Six Million Dollar Man is an American television series about a former astronaut with bionic prosthetics working for the OSI. It aired on the ABC network as a regular series from 1974 to 1978, following three television movies aired in 1973. The title role of Steve Austin was played by Lee Majors, who subsequently became a pop culture icon of the 1970s. A spin-off of the show was produced, The Bionic Woman, as well as several television movies featuring both characters.

IMMORTALITY IS A CURSE

The Story of a Man’s Failure in Life and Death Debuts This Month With Last Mortal
BERKELEY, CA – 4 May 2011 – Fresh from the recent success of Joshua Hale Fialkov and and Rahsan Ekedal’s critically acclaimed ECHOES, Minotaur Press has once again paired up with Top Cow Productions and Image Comics to bring readers a gritty new four issue miniseries. LAST MORTAL, a noir revenge story with a supernatural twist by writer and Top Cow Publisher Filip Sablik (THE DARKNESS II: CONFESSION, PILOT SEASON: ASSET) and writer John Mahoney with artist Thomas Nachlik (PILOT SEASON: FOREVER), will be in stores soon.
LAST MORTAL tells the tale of Alec King, a born loser who could never succeed at anything. When Alec’s best friend and partner in crime’s latest get rich quick scheme leaves their operation forever altered, he is left at rock bottom. Will he find a way to break his pattern of continued failure and reach a better day?
Top Cow Publisher and writer Filip Sablik said, “I’m incredibly excited and proud to see this series released as a creator. Alec’s story is one that my co-creator John and I have been working on for roughly fifteen years. The combination of a grounded street level revenge story and the more supernatural, personal journey Alec undergoes has a unique, wide appeal held together brilliantly by Thomas Nachlik’s striking, bold art.”
“Last Mortal is a book that is near and dear to Filip and my hearts and is a story we have been writing in one form or another for most of our lives,” added Mahoney. “The street level pulp setting for this four issue miniseries asks the question: What can a man accomplish with a second chance when that opportunity is forced upon him against his will?”
Nachlik spoke of his collaboration with the two co-creators on LAST MORTAL: “Filip Sablik and John Mahoney – a dream team of writers – after working on this script for so many years had a clear vision of their concepts but were open to new ideas at the same time. That’s the perfect combination for every sequential artist working on such a complex and unique story concept.”
Readers who want to meet the creators while picking up the first issue of LAST MORTAL should make sure to visit Collector’s Paradise in Canoga Park, CA on Saturday, May 21st. The store will be hosting a LAST MORTAL book release party from 7 PM to 10 PM. There will be a signing with co-creators John Mahoney and Filip Sablik, an art show of Thomas Nachlik’s original work from the first issue, a live DJ and free drinks. And to top it off, Sablik will be getting a tattoo live at the event of the ouroboros symbol that is seen on the covers! For more information about the event, visit http://comicsandcards.net.
A video trailer of the new series can be seen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCNfDf1bgLk. Trailer sound design, score, and voiceover are by Joshua Boden.
LAST MORTAL #1 (MAR110522), a 32-page black and white supernatural noir comic book priced at $3.99 will be available on May 18. ECHOES HC, collecting the entire 5 issue series as well as a ton of extras including sketches, script pages, process pieces and more, will be available in stores on June 22nd for $19.99.

ANCIENT EVIL IN YOUNG AMERICA

Image Comics Introduces Severed: A Tale of Horror in the Early 20th Century
BERKELEY, CA — 4 May 2011 — Eisner nominated writer Scott Snyder (American Vampire, Detective Comics), writer Scott Tuft and New York Times Best-Selling artist Attila Futaki (Percy Jackson) have announced a new project with Image Comics, set to debut this August. Image has built a deserved reputation as the industry leader for providing readers with quality science fiction and horror material such as the massively popular titles THE WALKING DEAD, CHEW and HACK/SLASH, and like those titles, SEVERED is unlike any other monthly series and sure to be a hit with comic book and horror fans alike.

“SEVERED is a unique story that is extremely close to my heart, and in order to maintain complete creative control with the comic, Scott Tuft and I knew that it needed to be creator owned,” Synder commented. “We are extremely happy Image is giving us the platform to release SEVERED.”

The accomplished writing team of Snyder and Tuft are collaborating on the character-driven horror script that uses the landscape of the past to tell a story that is fresh, new and entirely relevant today. Add the exquisitely subtle style of Futaki’s painted illustrations, and you have a comic that will sneak up on you, sink it’s teeth in and never let go.
“I’m having such a great time bringing SEVERED to life,” artist Attila Futaki said of his work on the series. “Snyder and Tuft have created dynamic characters and an engrossing world that is a thrill to realize. The old-fashioned and precious world is a pleasure to draw and I am very excited about getting blood all over it!”

“When Scott and I first saw Attila’s art, we knew he was the one to bring our story to life,” added Tuft. “His art goes above and beyond the call and it keeps getting better. Not only is it scary, but his ability to capture the emotions of the characters and the tension of a scene is truly unique. We are so lucky to have signed him up.”
Snyder continued: “This story digs deep into the American psyche, exploring a time when a vast network of rail supported a society of vagabonds and when the automobile made even the darkest corners of the country accessible to everyone. Tattooed traveling salesmen, black-faced minstrel men, cross-dressing tramps: SEVERED is filled with unexpected characters and tells a story that is not only uniquely American but certainly one of the scariest things I have ever written.”

SEVERED is mostly set in 1916 and follows Jack Garron, an idealistic 12-year-old who has taken to the road in search of his father, a wayward minstrel. Along the way, he meets up with a mysterious, charismatic salesman whose pearly whites cover the razor sharp teeth that he uses to feed on the innocent. Jack soon finds out that out on the roads and rails of early 20th century America, nothing goes wasted.

SEVERED #1, a 32-page full color horror comic book priced at $2.99, will be available for order in the June issue of Diamond Previews and goes on sale August 3, 2011.
