With the recent announcement that Valiant of all properties will be adapted for TV and Movies through an expansive, connected universe here are the issues I recommend.  I am not including many of the gold issues simply because they have continued to demand decent money even before the announcement.  Be aware that many of the first issues from these series have gold variants some of which are flat gold while others are embossed.

Archer & Armstrong #0, Archer & Armstrong #8

ArcherArmstrong0-454x700

Despite a huge print run this comic is the first appearance of one of the best series  Valiant has ever offered.  Get a CGC 9.8 and you will still make some decent money.  Even the new series from Valiant is a great read and some of those issues ( including 0, first One Percent ) are worth a look.

Issue 8 is a flip book and features the first appearance of Ivar the Timewalker.

We already know of the pink, issue 12 ( first Turok ) and issue 1 hold value but there are others. Oh and make sure the coupons are in tact or the value is diminished.

Issue 64 is rare due to a low print run. You will find that many of the last issues from Valiant properties are quite rare.

The Visitor VS. the Valiant Universe #1 & #2

These cover prices make these issues extremely hard to come by. Remember $2.95 is common and worth nothing. Other series like Turok also have $2.50 cover variants. Technically they are newsstand pricing issues and are scarce.

There aren’t many issues from the Bloodshot series that are worth a look but there is a Platinum error for issue 0 that might just be the rarest Valiant title out there!

Issue 10 and 10 b are well known but still make the list as they feature the first appearance of the Eternal Warrior

Harbinger #10

Even though issues 1-6 are all tough to find and coveted by collectors they are well known because of rarity and quality. Other than issue 41 (last issue) issue 10 is the only other comic from the series I can recommend. Even though H.A.R.D. Corps was a fair comic to say the least it would make an excellent movie in this writer’s opinion and it is going to be cheap no matter where you find it.

Rai #9  (Gold)

Rai #33

Rai is the first original  character that Valiant created. Issues 1-5 are rare especially 4.

The only gold issue on my list is issue 9 of this series because it’s often forgotten as it marks a less than stellar new direction for the title

  1. Great info! Thanks! (PS: It’s “intact,” not “in tact.” I hope I said that with tact…)

    • The old grammar police are out tonight lol! I’ll be sure to take it up with the editor! Thanks for reading!

  2. I thought Eternal Warrior 4 is his Cameo First appearance and Rai 0 his first Full appearance?

    • The market is already proving that Eternal 4 is the book to shoot for. Also many are confused by what cameo means. A first appearance can also be a cameo!

  3. Your articles are always very informative but I don’t think I would recommend the Magnus, Solar and Turok books as Valiant currently does not own the rights to those characters. Dynamite does so I don’t think they’re part of the deal.

    • The solar book is mentioned because of the eternal warrior, magus because of rai and then i tossed in some other magnus books that people might not know about.

  4. I get its what the market is, but it’s still confusing. A perfect example is ASM 300. It’s not Venom first appearance, but that’s the book to have.

  5. Although you’re 100% correct about X-O #4 being the first Jack Boniface/Shadowman, you actually have a pic of X-O #5 showing. Might wanna’ correct that; just sayin’. Otherwise, great article.

  6. Junior, i would say that 298 is highly collectible as well. It’s not just about the market though. Markets change, are often wrong and can be manipulated. In this case Eternal 4 IS the book to own.

  7. any chances you guys will do a write up on the new valiant launch comics?

    • I probably will not. There are so many variants and the universe itself ( other than Archer ) does not really interest me as a fan or collector. I have mentioned Archer in articles from last year because issue 0 is the first appearance of the One Percent. They are a well crafted villainous organization who could very well be a part of the upcoming Archer film.

What do you think? InvestComics would like to know.
