Awesome Sauce

10thmusereviewRob reviews an advance copy of 10th Muse and the Legend of Isis #! Warning, spoiler alert ahead!

Welcome once again!

10muse_nudeTime to bring on a new spice for the greatest Sauce around! This time the Spice comes in the form of The 10th Muse and the Legend of Isis #1. From the Bluwater Comics crew! With the team of Kenton Daniel as Writer, Beniamino Bradi on Pencils, Erick Arciniega as Colorist, Jaymes Reed, as Letterer, and Erich Own on the Cover!

And speaking of the cover, all you fans out there of girl vs. girl will be quite pleased with it! We start this puppy with a most excellent cruise through space! A flight crew is chasing after a very fast “thing”. And the head boss lady wants to make sure nothing bad happens when it lands on a planet! Smart thinking and nice of her I’d say!  But on the planet, it seems like trouble is possibly brewing for our Space fairing crew!

But it seems like the planet inhabitants may be conspiring against our space heroes! And don’t you love it when a beautiful woman comes out of some space pod or other form of flight and completely in the nude? But yet the ever presence of smoke or something else is also blocking the goodies? And how does one come to wind up cruising through the Galaxy in a giant Clam!? But you gotta love the Captain Lady’s penchant for Grade A Sarcasm! Sometime later after a very shocking jolt to some systems. Our fair heroes wake up in a dungeon like place! Alongside the Clam riding chick they were after!

So after some dialogue, our beautiful leading ladies break free and kick some booty! Even more so, their dialogue is kicking butt too! And just as the smashingly good hits roll on, some guy interrupts with a dire message for why he needed them there! And come on now, we all know Fate is just a crutch for people to use when they can’t fight some big baddy on their own!

The art in this is very well done, as well as the dialogue. As it all keeps you very interested and on the edge of your seat!

I urge you all to go out and find this comic! And to keep following it to its conclusion!

I give this issue an 8 on the Spice Rack Meter! Until next time fellow Sauce lovers!

riders_reviewFPAwesome Sauce Rob reviews Heavy Metal story “Riders”

COVER_HM_march_2011Comin’ at ya with a new spice on the Awesome Sauce rack!

This time its comin’ from the Azurek Studios! With the team of Rita Gorgoni on Story, Art by Stefano Cardoselli, Alex Rodrik on Translating, And Azurek Studios covering the Lettering! This team and the Studio is bringin’ to you one heck of a slobber knocker! In the form of the Azurek City Riders! With one fine lady gracing the cover who’s got some nice green hair and is lookin’ to jump out of the cover and gun ya down with those weapons of hers! This is a story within the Heavy Metal magazine. And if you’ve never heard of Heavy Metal or even seen the two Animated Films. Then I got one question for ya, where you been!? Get out and find this magazine! Along with the films!

As I recall, Stefano and Rita were also around for the last ‘Awesome Sauce’ review. In which I covered their work called ‘Who Will Save The World?’ Along with the good man himself Jay Katz doing an interview! And as you might be familiar, this bit of Heavy Metal zine is just as filled with violence and nudity! This story is NOT for the faint of heart!

The way the characters speak in this, reminds me of how Cowboys in the Deep South would speak. And in a way, I’m guessing this was the intent of the writer. As it really does fit with how things are currently set in this story! As for the artwork, it fits very well for this story as well.

ridersGUNSSo after a brief conversation between the townies and the new arrivals happen, guns get drawn out. I mean come on people! All the arrivals wanted to do was Rock out til the Cows came home! But after a bit more action between the two groups. The Riders as the new arrivals are called, head back out into the Sunset. On a new mission. What that mission is regarding the Human Race might be? I have few doubts, but looking forward to seeing what kind of Ruckus they cause!

And the rating on the Spice Rack for this is a good ol’ rockin’ 8!

So get out and find this, and buy it! This has just a bit of everything in it!

Til next time!

Plot

The Western Front. September 12, 1914. It’s early morning in the French trenches. Two soldiers eat as the rain drowns the land. The sunrise pulls a strange green cloud up from the horizon. The smell of death grows as a sinister shadow is cast upon the trenches: the Germans are attacking. The French quickly arm themselves and open fire on the approaching enemy soldiers, but their bullets might as well be spit balls. The German soldiers who do fall rise instantly and continue their approach. What ensues is a morning of massacre, the French had no chance. When the medical teams arrive, all that remain are pieces of what were once soldiers: devoured by an unknown weapon.

But as the French tend to their dead, the Germans are just a few miles outside of Paris.

The Germans have harnessed a chemical formula that instantly revives their fallen soldiers. Germany now holds the most dangerous weapon on the planet. They call their new army “The Green Skull.” It doesn’t take long for Germany to overwhelm and overthrow all of France and Italy, the rest of Europe is next.

The Empire is winning this war and now they prepare to take Britain. In an attempt to combat the quickly approaching attack, Britain calls out to the US for assistance. The year is 1917.

Tesla Team

The US, seeing an eminent threat, sends over their best force: The Tesla Initiative. The Initiative is a Special Forces team formed by Nikola Tesla. The team consists of Captain John Lugosi, Dr. K, and 12 specialized Marines. The team is equipped with high tech electromagnetic weaponry. Their objective is simple: do not engage in unnecessary combat, find the chemical strain, and bring it back. A counteragent must be developed to help fight The Empire……

WWSTWPRE1My MINI Review…

So what to do when German Soldiers in 1914 get right back up right after being shot? Why send in the Americans of course!

So I have to say, I’d highly recommend going out and finding the Horror styled comic known as ‘Who Will Save The World?’ A Black and White styled (some colored?) comic with a fully colored cover that while it’s not jumping right out at you. Will leave you possibly a bit shocked! This fine story is written by the team of: Rita Gorgoni and Stefano Cardoselli, art by Stefano Cardoselli, translated by Alex Rodrik (Alex was Interviewed right here on InvestComics TV!), and coming to you directly from DarkSlinger Comics here in the good ol’ USA!

So can the Americans help the British with these specially drugged German Soldiers in time before it’s too late? Well….only time and hopefully many issues of this will tell!

Now Mr. InvestComics himself Jay Katz with a few questions for Stefano Cardoselli!

WWSTWPRE21- How long have you’ve been an artist?

I started drawing since I was a child, even with moments of break I was….drawing. I always remember drawing and writing lengthy graphic novels, science fiction stories where the tragic hero must face the armies of bad guys all by himself ….I drew everything in pencil, of course. I was 10 years and the result was a little rough but fun.

2-….And do you ink, color, and write as well?

Yeah … I ink, I’ve never worked with an inker, I prefer to do everything myself, especially the colors by hand, for digital I have the invaluable assistance of the colors of our study. I’m not a real writer, I write stories and then Rita adds that extra touch. She is a real writer.

3- You reside in Italy, correct? How does the comic book industry differ from overseas to America, if at all?

I do not know, basically do not work with Italian publishers, certainly the Italian market is now dying at least from what I hear…I am fine working in the States, Kevin Eastman gives publishers like me a real source of inspiration. Others which I will always be grateful for believing in me, Rita and our “history”… Ben and Ed of ComX, the great Alex Rodrik; talented writer and friend, Adam Watson and the Dark Kate Slinger comics publisher based in Portland, strong and vital, and but not least Darren of Blue Water comics publishing industry that leaves you free to create and write!

4-What character would you love to one day draw, and why?
when working with Alex and Rita at ComX “Bushido Wasabi,” and Van Helsing. Adam Watson is an interesting character! Then there are other characters who revolve around the Azurek studios…..soon will come to light but…If I had a choice for draw anyone it would be…. LOBO!

WWSTWPRE35- What was the inspiration behind these awesome preview pages and story?

I love horror movies, especially the Romero zombie movies, and Nikola Tesla.

6-You worked with Bob Heske on 2012 The Final Prayer, what story did you do?

It was a fantastic experience! Bob is a great author! He left us to completely free to create. I drew on a story written by Rita “The end is near”.

7- Where can we find, and buy more of Stefano Cardoselli?

Styx and Stone series, Bluewater Comics; issue One will be out in January, but you can still pre-order. The first 2 issues are written by Adam Gragg & Darren G. Davis; Colors by Willie Jimenez, and Van Helsing. Darkslinger Comics Volume 3; story by Adam Watson cover by Tony Morgan, Holli Hoxxx Tinius Bros.”Riders” Heavy Metal Magazine Dec 28th, story by Rita Gorgons and Translated by Alex Rodrik. and a lot of books for DarkSlingers Comics from 2011 “Who Will Save The World?” out in March! The comic can be ordered in all the comic store, or directly via the web site of the publishers.

Thanks for your time Stefano! We look forward to seeing you on InvestComics TV!

Awesome Sauce

Dino_fpAwesome Sauce is back, with reviews of Dinoman #1 and #2!

Dino1coverDINO2coverDinoman Issue #1

Written by Ben and Jeff Cohen,

Illustrated by Jeff Cohen,

Cover Colors by Kristoffe Brodeur.

Dinoman Issue #2

Written by Ben and Jeff Cohen,

Illustrated by Jeff Cohen

Colors and Tones by Ed Watson.

Dinoman is the story of a half dinosaur, half man like superhero. In the first issue, which the cover shows our Hero flying right at ya with a big ol’ smile and a thumbs up. Go Dinoman! Save the day!

Before I go on, I’d like to point out that Dinoman comes from the BrainFood Comics realm. BrainFood Comics has a lot of cool stuff going on, so be sure to check them out right here.

dinorev1Now back to Issue #1, after we get past the cover, we are presented with a fight between two Dino’s. Only to later reveal it’s only a dream, although I have to say, seeing some Red Eyes and large teeth with pitch blackness surrounding it is seriously cool. The main opposition seems to be bad guys with paper bags over their heads. And unfortunately for our Hero, his deeds are often hated on after he’s done with them. Although the amount of property damage that winds up happening during those, I can see why some might be upset.

And as this story goes on, some guy named Bob becomes big news with some kind of Plant to reduce Fat. Bob also seems to be a pretty cheerful guy, what with the usually always shown smile on his face!

And now we move on to issue #2. With the finely well done cover for it! Showing Dinoman in a fight with some paper bag faced thugs and winning. It starts off with a flashback set around 10 years ago. I won’t spoil it for you fine readers, but I will say that it’s mainly more about our main man’s origins. I wonder if there should be laws about texting while flying through the air with no help but from your own powers? I know I’d be a little worried if a half man, half dinosaur was flying around and texting! Gotta say the narrator in this finely written story is great at what he does!

Dinorev2Our fine Narrator winds up being forcibly replaced! Pity! Rather liked his way of putting things! But enough about 4th wall breaking Narrators and the like! After showing us a few events in Dinoman’s life, we soon see 3 of the bag faced thugs in a warehouse beating up on some guy until Smilin’ Bob comes a knockin’! And after a history lesson involving his mom and curling irons. Unfortunately for the guy, he winds up losing some fat. We also learn that Smilin’ Bob doesn’t seem to know some of his employee’s names that well. We also get some insight to ol’ Bob’s plans involving the fat! Quite insane I’d say! And Dinoman is also apparently not that bright about recognizing a few things when it comes to who’s behind the Bag faced thugs. And as the issue leaves off with our Hero ranting and raving about many a thing for everyone to hear, it seems a new surprise is on the rise!

The artwork on BOTH of these books; pretty good! It had a nice flow within the story, and I never found myself lost looking for the next spot.

This series is at the rating of a good ol’ 8 Spices in Awesome Sauce! As the story does have a well balanced blend of seriousness, humor, and action.

Til next time!

Rob
