Remember when fanboy’s had their panties in a bunch over the fact Steve Rogers ‘hailed Hydra’? As though Marvel would keep their American Icon superhero within the clutches of the dark side forever. Fanboy’s always need something to complain about. Marvel fanboy’s begin their decent back to a happier place starting on new comic book day Wednesday (4-19-17). But before going to that happy place, fanboy’s will have to endure Steve Rogers being more of a bad guy and not seeing the light just yet. The big Marvel story to set Rogers on the straight path starts with Captain America: Captain America Steve Rogers #16 and Secret Empire #0. These issues will serve as the prologues of the epic storyline ‘Secret Empire’. Enjoy the storytelling and the plight, because in the end, fanboy’s will have their Captain back and a new number one issue will follow with about 33 different variants accompanying the silliness. All that yelling and boycotting for nothing.
Marvel’s recent series; Monsters Unleased, introduced a bunch of new characters. Now Marvel restarts things with Monsters Unleashed! #1 with the new characters starting out anew. Writer Cullen Bunn and artist David Baldeon.
If you’ve been paying attention, you know by now why Venom #6 is such an anticipated issue for many Spidey fans. Eddie Brock is back as Venom. Should be interesting from here on out. This issue will sell out, especially that Gerardo Sandoval cover. Wow. Think that’ll make the InvestComics Best Comic Covers Of The Week?

Invincible Iron Man #6 will introduce a new villain into the Iron Man rogue gallery.
A new Nick Fury series this Wednesday; Nick Fury #1. First appearance of Frankie Noble. Story by James Robinson and art by Aco.
A bit of controversy has set upon Ardian Syaf’s X-Men Gold #1. Marvel (Disney) obviously had no idea what Ardian was up to within the pages of their comic, but we’re almost certain that X-Men Gold #2 will be gone over with a fine-tooth comb. Which means either the second issue will be a bit delayed while they inspect it and make corrections/deletions or something will slip by again. We highly doubt anything will slip by, but fans will flock to this comic as though it will have more controversy surrounding it, which it most likely will not. Thus causing for a sold out comic for no other reason other than curiosity getting the better of most and thinking they’ll make a buck with a useless, non-controversial comic. Let’s see if X-Men Gold #2 even makes it to the shelves this week.

Not that there is any demand for it what so ever, but this 1991 first appearance in New Titans Annual #7 is readily available if you want it. Written by Marv Wolfman, so it’s gotta be interesting.
Superwoman #9 begins the new story ‘Super Women’. Written by Kate Perkins, with art by Stephen Segovia and Art Thibert.
Batwoman #2 introduces a villain named Knife. Writers James Tynion IV/Marguerite Bennett and art by Steve Epting.

As mentioned a few weeks ago. InvestComics will be going through some major changes. This will change the landscape in ways that will have other major comic websites following suit. As they do now anyways! Again stay tuned….

Wonder Woman (2011 4th Series) #36 will be a huge book this week. Besides having the amazing superstar David Finch take over the creative duties on the series, there will be major introductions of characters and villains appearing. With a Wonder Woman movie coming in a few years, it’s a safe bet to assume that there will be some hot WW comics along the way. This one being one of them. It won’t have any affect on the movie what’s so ever because the script has already been handed in. But, that said, last minute changes happen often and maybe they borrow from the new direction here? Highly unlikely, but this doesn’t matter. WW books will heat up if DC continues to breath new life into the character and the series. With the Awesome David Finch at the helm and the new characters/villains in the mix, yes this is a very very big start. Buy this on Wednesday. Buy it.

Silk_InvestComics Spider_Woman_1_InvestComics Spider_Woman_1_new_InvestComics Wonder_woman_1

So with Wonder Woman making her noise this week in a big way, how would the other guys answer the bell? With Spider-Woman (2014 5th Series) #1 of course. Not only will readers and collectors alike receive the return of the best Spider-Woman ever in Jessica Drew in her own series, but another character that InvestComics, yes that’s right InvestComics called quite a while ago to stock up on; Silk. I informed everyone here that Silk will be a force to be reckoned with within the Spidey universe. Well so much so, that not only will she appear in the hot number one issue here, but Silk will be getting her own series down the road. How does InvestComics do this? We are the best that’s why. Reiterating the past InvestComics Hot Pick(s), I tell you now, Buy Amazing Spider-Man #1 (2014) and Amazing Spider-Man #4 now before it’s too late. Get the variants signed and graded as also for the aforementioned comic above and flip them. Money to be made here with both Wonder Woman #36 and Spider-Woman #1 variants if done quickly and concisely.

Planet_Venom_InvestComics Spidey_VenomPlanetSuperman Wonder Woman (2013) #13 will feature the New 52 return of a villain group. Look at this comic and see if the story holds as this could lead into something else down the line for the group.

Two female lead books debut this week. Sinergy (2014 Image) #1 and Punk Mambo (2014) #0. Of course the Image comic is sold out already, while Valiants Punk Mambo is showing some very strong sales. And another sold out Image comic; Intersect (2014 Image) #1 looks very interesting. A must for collectors and readers.

Guardians of the Galaxy (2013 3rd Series) #21 will feature the Venom Planet. Gotta love that. The first time readers ever got a glimpse of the symbiote planet was in 1995’s Amazing Spider-Man Super Special #1. Fun times…..fun times indeed.

Batman_Superman_InvestComics Amazing_Spider_man_1Amazing Spider-Man (2014 3rd Series) #10 continues the Spider-Verse saga. You know what InvestComics has been saying about this, so no need in repeating. But if you’re new here, just scroll back to the previous weeks InvestComics Hot Picks and a few months ago as well to catch up. Yeah, that’s how we roll, we give you a heads up way before.

Batman Superman (2013 DC) #16 welcomes new series artist Ardian Syaf. This dude is on point.

Image Comics Goners (2014 Image) #2 is a sold out. And Epochalypse (2014 Legendary) #1 from Legendary looks like an interesting book. Check that one out.

See you soon. Invest wisely.

Welcome to the InvestComics Hot Picks

Allow me to reminisce a bit; I need to inform everyone on something very spectacular and drive home a point, if there is one…….

There comes a certain time within a startup business that one can be very proud of their personal achievements. Although there have been several for InvestComics (my fourth child), the ones that stick out are the ones I will cherish and tell myself “Hey you CAN truly make this happen”. Meeting and interviewing the mecca of all comic book legends; Stan Lee, twice! That’s one. Having Mr. Lee utter the words of “InvestComics” on video, forever captured, encapsulated in time, that’s two. Meeting and interviewing my late father’s artist hero (which he never met); Bill Sienkiewicz, that’s three. Starting the InvestComics Publishing Company, that’s number four. Watching the traffic numbers climb to a number you’ve envisioned, and then exceeding it each and every year, that’s five. If I continue I will run out of Microsoft paper, but you get the idea here.

Yesterday one of those pinnacle moments happened again. InvestComics was accepted to write articles for Yahoo!. It’s one of those moments like the aforementioned you pinch yourself and say “wow” this is kinda awesome. I will post on Facebook and the InvestComics website the links to check out. They will be Exclusive articles on Yahoo! From InvestComics. These articles will ONLY appear on Yahoo! and no place else. So be sure to click on the links when they are provided so you can bask in the glory with me. Also, I ask to please share them. The articles are very simple now, but will be enhanced; as did everything else with InvestComics when first started. Here are two links to the very first articles on Yahoo!. InvestComics Top 10 – New Comic Releases and Back Issues for 10/30/13 and InvestComics Top Ten – New Comic Releases and Back Issues for 11/6/13. As stated, these articles will be more in-depth with the next releases. Baby steps…

Thanks to you……the fans…. for making this happen. Thank you for all of your support, none of this is possible without you.

Christmas is officially 24 days away. The InvestComics/Ratchet City Comics giveaway is still on, but we need to get to 3000 LIKES on Facebook in order to award the prize! The winner will receive a CGC Signature Series graded 9.8 Star Wars #1 (2013) Dark Horse comic signed by Brian Wood! Click HERE and SHARE the InvestComics Facebook page everywhere! Be sure to let us know so that you can be entered to win!! Let’s get to 3000!!

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Comic Releases 12/4/13

Just like last week’s InvestComics Hot Picks, not much in the back issue department to check out, but plenty of new issues to check out.

[scrollGallery id=322]

We start the week off with some first appearances that you may want to check out. Avengers (2012 5th Series) Annual #2013 will introduce Zamira. It’s always nice to make sure as a collector to pick up a first appearance in an Avengers book. Knowing full well that annuals don’t usually account to much, but the way things are rolling these days, you never know. So basically, I don’t care that it’s in an annual. Especially that it’s in an Avengers title. The speculator needs to get this comic. The Arrow series on CW is doing quite well for itself these days. The Green Arrow comic is faring okay though. With the release of Green Arrow (2011 4th Series) #26 this week, look for the introduction of some new villains in these pages. In the bizarre first appearance world of comics this week we have Longshot Saves The Marvel Universe (2013) #3. Check out Hulkvengers, Cosmic Carnage, Wolverine King of Vampires among others. Silly, yet once again you never know!

Batman Superman (2013 DC) #6 has our heroes dealing with Mongul. This big ol’ Thanos/Darkseid wannabe first appeared in DC Comics Presents #27 (1980). Check out that Jim Starlin Cover too! Oh of course Jim Starlin is involved with this cosmic character, hello?!

Having a name like Man-Bat is the equivalent of having the name She-Bat, right?? Well anyways, this week in Detective Comics (2011 2nd Series) #26, John Layman brings the She-Bat to the forefront. Here’s a quick trivia question, you must know the answer in 4 seconds flat. Ready? Where is the first appearance of She-Bat…..1,2,3,4 BZZZZ! Time’s up! The first appearance is in Detective Comics #407 (1971) by legend Neal Adams. Now that’s at least a reason to own the book, right?!

If you’re a fan of any Spidey comic these days you will realize that anything is possible with the way a storyline can twist and turn. There may be a similar path this week with Superior Spider-Man (2012) #23. Marvel promises to have the most “cringe-worthy moment is Spider-Man history” happen in this comic. What is worth a statement like that? Well you’ll have to buy the comic to find out. “….In history”, that’s very mighty of them to say isn’t it? Superior Spider-Man #23 is a definite pick-up this week.

Amazing X-Men (2013) #2 features a fan fav Dale Keown variant that’s sold out at Diamond. Possibly a nice CGC Signature Series opportunity here. It’s a $40 variant, so score a 9.8 or higher.

Inhumanity (2013) #1 variant by Nick Bradshaw is sold out. Inhumans will be a hot commodity for a bit, so be on top of them. Check out last week’s InvestComics Hot Picks #296 for more on the Inhumans.

The popular on-line video game Hawken will get its own comic book this week from Archaia Studios Press; Hawken Melee (2013) #1. It’s almost sold out at the distributor, so be sure to check in on it.

Want to follow the story of three dogs surviving the extinction of the human race in Rover Red Charlie (2013) #1? Sounds a bit over the top right? With proven talent like writer Garth Ennis on this book, one cannot help but see what this is all about.

The latest installment of the Terminator hits this week; Terminator Salvation Final Battle (2013) #1 and the Pete Woods Variant is sold out.

Another zombie book finds its way to the new release shelf this week; Deadworld Restoration (2013) #1. The zombie genre is going to die soon (no pun intended) with too many storylines focusing on dead people that walk around. See last week’s Hot Picks #296 for more on the zombie genre.

What’s not dead on arrival is the new red hot Noir comic from Dynamite Entertainment. Noir (2013 Dynamite) #2 is sold out at the distributor. Look for second prints to follow shortly.

A new creative team will be taking over on Valiant’s Shadowman (2012 4th Series) #13. Be sure to check that out.

There is a “thing” Dynamite Entertainment is doing that is kind of perplexing (not really, they’re making extra cash with these “rare comics”), but maybe cool for the collector/speculator? It’s a question because there is no reasoning behind why they continue to do this to certain comics (other than the cashflow) and they are extremely limited, but we’ll point out a few of them this week. Red Sonja Unchained #4 Cover D High-End Mel Rubi Blood Red Ultra-Limited Cover. There are only 25 of these in existence. The “number” in existence is the running theme here, so check out what applies here for these comics; Dejah Thoris And The Green Men Of Mars #5 Cover G High-End Jay Anacleto Risque Color Ultra-Limited Cover (50 Copies), Lords Of Mars #5 Cover D High-End Mel Rubi Risque Red Ultra-Limited Cover (50 Copies), Black Bat (2013 Dynamite) #7 Cover D High-End Ardian Syaf Black & White Ultra-Limited Cover (50 Copies), and Shadow Green Hornet Dark Nights #2 Cover E High-End Alex Ross Sketch Art Ultra-Limited Cover (25 Copies). I do suppose that if you want to spend a $100 on any of these comics you can, but how exactly do you make your money back on these “investments”? (If you want to call it an investment). Graded CGC Signature Series? How would one sell something that isn’t really in much demand? Getting an Alex Ross sig series on the Shadow Green Hornet Dark Nights #2 is a good start.

Sticking with the Dynamite Comics here, be sure to check out Legends of Red Sonja (2013 Dynamite) #2 with the Frank Thorne exclusive cover. It’s a much cheaper route than the above mentioned. A $3.99 comic limited to comic subscribers at their local comic shops and an initial limited print run. All that for $3.99, not bad.

And finally, from Archie Comics Archie #650 Cover B Variant Fiona Staples World Tour Cover. This awesome variant comes from the red hot series artistry of Saga; Fiona Staples. A $3.99 easy, no brainer pick-up.

InvestComics Comic Hot Picks 9-7-11 (DC Comics Relaunch Special Part 1)

Welcome to one of the most comprehensive Hot Picks list to date from InvestComics. Last week we all witnessed the rebirth of the new DC Universe with only 2 new releases. This week DC goes with 13 titles, and InvestComics will give you the low down on each title. First appearances, Number one issues, and the collectors price for these gems. So sit back, get the check book, plastic, or cash whichever you choose and buy some of these very affordable comics. (And a special thanks to Comics Price Guide.com for providing the pricing)

Where to begin? Well let’s start with the Mecca of all comics, Action Comics #1. Some 73 years ago, most of our grandparents/parents were witness to arguable the greatest Superhero and First Lady of comic books in history; Clark and Lois. Action Comics # 1 from 1938 sold for $1.5 million dollars (yes you’re allowed to put your pinky to your mouth and say, with your best Evil accent “1.5 million dollars.” It’s okay; no one is watching….go ahead.) So let’s stick with a theme here and go from High to low.

Detective Comics #1 – Where there is Superman, Batman shouldn’t be that far behind. In this particular case he is. (We await the Batman #1 release where Bats catches up quickly!). Ask any collector a certain issue number and they will instantly know what it is. In some cases, you can give a collector just a number and they will know what you’re talking about. With Detective Comics, you have just that. Everyone knows about issue #27, but ask a collector what the cover looks like to Detective Comics #1 1937 and they may stall a bit. It’s an awkward cover isn’t it? You want some beauty? Okay how about the cover relates to one of the nine plus stories in this book called “The Streets Of Chinatown” written by Jerry Siegel and pencils by Joe Shuster? Yea, “those 2 guys”. The two JS’s also have another story in here called “Part 1”. One of the great things about this $100,000 Joe and Jerry comic is that it predates Action Comics #1!

Green Arrow #1 -The next comic up for bid at $36,000 would be More Fun Comics #73 from 1935. If calculations are correct here, that means that 3 years prior to Superman (and Lois) making their debut, Aquaman, Speedy and Green Arrow all did in the same comic, but yet it cost  1.4+ million dollars less. Further proof that yes Superman is a badas*.

Swamp Thing #1 – One of the, if not THE greatest horror artist of all time had a hand in creating this Swamp Thing character. Mr. Bernie Wrightson. Swamp Thing is one of those characters that never seemed to find his footing (maybe it’s all of those twigs) in the DC universe. Or so it seems that way. Coming in at $1200 is Swamp’s first appearance in House of Secrets #92 from 1971. Not a bad buy if the Swamp Thing would ever get a big budget film like he deserves. Otherwise this comic will probably remain at the pace of a slow climbing valued comic for a long time.

Animal Man #1 – The first appearance of Animal Man came is Strange Adventures #180 1965. Animal Man was born on paper by an awesome artist; Carmine Infantino. But, very much like Swamp Thing, Animal Man needs a “place” and maybe, just maybe Writer Jeff Lemire and Penciler Travel Foreman will bring it. A very non-animal collector’s price of only $260 for this first appearance. You won’t get rabies if you buy at $200 plus, but as it applied to Swamp Thing’s first appearance, it’s a slow mover. Think of it this way, this comic is 4 years away from becoming a 50 year old book…..

Batgirl #1 – Written by Gail Simone, Pencils by Ardian Syaf, and a cover by Adam Hughes probably will equate to big sales for this comic. All rejoice! Barbara Gordon will be making a comeback as Batgirl! Catch her first appearance in Detective Comics #359 1967 valued at $240 (penciled by Carmine Infantino!). Batgirl will make some noise, and will be a force in the DC Universe. Look for the Detective Comic to gain a little bit of steam, much more so than Animal Man and Swamp Thing.

Hawk and Dove #1 – The last of the “upper level” spending list. Hawk And Dove first appeared together in Showcase #75 1968. It’s only $200. A $200 comic with a first appearance from Steve Ditko. Is there anything left to say here? Yes the comic is 43 years old and only worth a couple of hundred bucks, but we’re talking about a legend here debuting new characters that have a relaunch comic coming out, add to this the potential of a movie one day, and you have a collector’s item. Buy this.

Coming in at the $16 mark; Men of War #1 1977, and Omac #1 1974. Both of these comics hold some promise, and In case you haven’t heard (no bird bird isn’t the word) the Bronze Age is the way to go as far as collecting comics go. An era still poised for some serious upside. Omac #1 1974 for example, Jack “King” Kirby draws the origin of Omac. Men of War #1 1977; written by David Michelinie. So put that variant cover of Spider-Island back and get one of these books.

For $5 you can get the first appearance of Justice League International. Or you could possibly find one in the long boxes at your local convention for a buck. Look for Justice League #1 from 1987 for the 1st JLI. While in those long boxes, move over to the 50 cent boxes and look for Static #1 1993 (the late great Dwayne Mcduffie), and Jim Lee’s Image title Stormwatch #1 from 1993. Then after that, move on over to the current books and grab Batman Incorporated #5 for cover price. The African American Batwing makes his debut in there. He’s also making the cut in DC’s relaunch with Batwing #1.

Okay with that out of the way, be sure to scroll down to the bottom of this article and check out all of the covers to the NEW number one issues DC is offering up.

Here are the rest of the comics to check out this week.

Marvel – New Avengers Annual #1, and  Annihilators Earthfall #1. Image Comics – 27 Second Set #1. Bluewater Comics – Orbit Stan Lee #1, and Walter Koenig’s Things To Come #1.
