We gave our reason(s) of why a collector should be buying the Edge of Venomverse comics, but we’ll keep reminding you guys/gals in case you missed it. The series will be a ‘mash-up’ series of ‘mostly’ popular characters getting the Venom bug so to speak. They will become a former shell of themselves, but as the Venom character. This week, the ever so popular Gwenpool becomes Venom-Gwen, Gwen-Venom, Gwenpool-Venom or whatever name that gets stuck, you get the idea in Edge of Venomverse #2. One of these mash-up’s in this series will probably catch on and create a frenzy. We advise to stay on top of this series as one (or more) of these characters are bound to bounce out and you get bounced over.
Superior Octopus is back in Amazing Spider-Man #30. The fanbase has taken a tremendous liking to this new character. Look for Amazing Spider-Man #25 (first appearance of Superior Octopus) to gain momentum if the newbie gets his own series or makes an indelible mark within the Spidey rouge gallery. Either way, it’s still a good modern to pick up to add to your collection.
Darth Vader #3 may introduce a survivor from the Order 66. ‘The strongest Jedi Vader has ever faced’. A new Jedi. A new character. We all know what happens when a Star Wars comic introduces a new character right? A comic that increases in value way too fast and catches many collectors by surprise. Eventually the market cools off though and the once $60 comic becomes a $10 comic. Be wise. Buy now, off the shelf. A comic from Charles Soule & Guiseppe Camuncoli.

Old Man Logan #26 finds Logan hunting down the Hulk Gang. The Hulk Gang first appeared in Wolverine #66 (2008), which of course happens to be the start of the whole Old Man Logan deal as well.
Marvel and Jim Lee continue their trading card covers this week. Our fav’s are Deadpool #33 and Jean Grey #4 .
Spider-Men II #1 ends the many years of wondering; ‘Who is Miles Morales of the Marvel Universe?’ Well not really that long, about 5 years. Brian Michael Bendis writes and Sara Pichelli pencils.
Will comic fans finally see the Hulk with Wolverine claws tearing things up in Weapon X #5? The slow burn is killing us. Writer Greg Pak takes his time as Greg Land delivers the art.
Click on the RED links, Images or the comic cover to buy/bid from All available sellers on Ebay.
The death of Bizarro? Could be. Check out part one of ‘The Life of Bizarro’ in Red Hood and The Outlaws #12. Writer Scott Lobdell and art by Dexter Soy.
A new storyline; ‘Revenge’, begins in Action Comics #983. Looks as though Superman will have a plethora of guest stars, his family, within this story. Not sure if this will be a one off for all these guest, but for now we get to enjoy all of them in one place. Dan Jurgens writes, art by Viktor Bogdanovic and Jonathan Glapion.
DC’s Batman summer event continues as their number one issues are cranking out on it. Dark Days The Casting #1. The all-star team of Lee, Snyder, Tynion IV and others bring you the next epic Batman event this summer.

InvestComics Indie Hot Picks;
Black Mask CEO Matt Pizzolo (very cool dude) gets the writer credit for his comic Calexit #1 (art by Amancay Nahuelpan). We’ve said it more than a dozen times on InvestComics, buy Black Mask books, they’re on point and sell out quite often.
Howard Chaykin created a bit of noise with the debut of Divided States Of Hysteria #1, let’s see if the follow-up; Divided States Of Hysteria #2 keeps that buzz going.
Bart Sears’ Ominous Press makes its debut with Dread Gods #1. Tom Raney & Bart Sears are on board with the pencils as Ron Marz writes. We’re on board and you should jump on too.

Each week InvestComics seeks out a comic(s) on Ebay for $100 or less and then brings it to the attention of our fans. We call it IC 100 Club Pick. The idea is to get a great book at a great price. We do not own nor are we selling these comics. The comics are found by a random process. We do not know the ebay seller(s), nor are we promoting the Ebay seller. Any knowing from the Ebay seller of InvestComics or its affiliates is purely coincidental. (See disclaimer for more details).

IC 100 Club Pick: We have three CBCS graded comics to check out this week. Power Man and Iron Fist #119 (1985) 9.8. The retelling of Iron Fists’ origin for only $95. Free shipping. John Byrne cover. Nova #1 (1976) 9.0. The first appearance and origin of Marvel’s Nova character. On the cusp of something great in our humble opinion. This 9.0 graded comic is only $99 with free shipping. New Mutants #87 (1990) 8.5. This is the first appearance of Cable. It’s an 8.5 and with a press, maybe bump that grade up? Only $99.

We informed our fans back in January of this year regarding the Marvel character Slapstick. Check that out right here at this LINK. We spoke about all of the Merc For Money characters getting their own solo books before it was ever spoken about from Marvel. We especially hyper-focused on the Slapstick character. We thought and still think there is upside to this goofy Joker/Deadpool misfit character. Maybe even bigger things down the pike for him. This week the new Slapstick #1 will begin his newest journey onward and upward. He first appeared back in 1992’s self titled book Slapstick #1. We said it back in January and we’ll say it again, get his first appearance now. It was literally 75 cents when we mentioned it back 11 months ago. A NM copy ranges around $10 now in some outlets. Well worth it. Buy it now. The new Slapstick #1 Rob Liefeld variant(s) have Deadpool on the cover to make this a must get for variant cover collectors.

Speaking of giving fans a heads up, we helped fans make lots of money (flips) with Darth Vader #3, the first appearance of Doctor Aphra. Marvel continues their female dominate character run with their last(?) solo female book of 2016; Star Wars Doctor Aphra #1. Written by Darth Vader writer Kieron Gillen and art from Kev Walker. The solicit remains a secret as fans will get an in-depth look into the rookie Star Wars player in the Marvel universe. The Doctor is in and the prognosis is a good one.

Entering its seventh volume, Nova #1 from writer Jeff Loveness/Ramon Perez and art by Ramon Perez. Marvel promises a Nova comic as you have never seen before. Be there on new comic book day to check this out.
Marvel and DC have found a niche in the comic book market a while ago and of course are running it to the ground. With that said, meet She-Borg in her first appearance in Cyborg #6. You see, it’s Cyborg, but a girl version. Yes for real, no kidding.

Titan Comics will go back to well with their hit character Norman. Norman The First Slash #1 will begin a new series regarding the psychotic 9(?) year old boy. The first series sold very well as Norman #1 commanded some nice aftermarket cash before it settled off. If Titan Comics continues the restarts, that will demoralize the value a little bit of the number one issue. They should just have an on-going series and stick with it. That’s our two-cents, but Titan Comics and Norman will be awesome no matter what anyway.
Faith #6 from Valiant Entertainment will introduce fans to a new villain.
Dynamic Entertainment provides fans with a team up of epic proportions. A pairing that had fans screaming, demanding it happen. This Wednesday, because you demanded it, Wonder Woman 77 Meets The Bionic Woman #1. Odd pairing no?

With the influx of female characters making their way into the comic book medium these days, with lots of thanks to Disney (Marvel) making it so that the female character shows more of a “character side” as they have never before, we wanted to make sure to recognize some of the keys players. We completely understand that female characters have been around since the inception of comic books (no need for a history lesson, stop typing that email or Facebook post), but there is a movement happening in the past few years to the likes we have never really seen in case you haven’t realized it. Disney put a female lead in its new Star Wars movie, now the next Star Wars movie (Rouge One) will ALSO be a female lead. They know what they’re doing and their comics are following the same guidelines. So as is everyone else in the comic book industry. Much like what always happens with InvestComics and everyone following us or emulating. We’re flattered though. Like Disney.

Listed below are some new comics, some old comics and characters WE like. This will be the first installment of more Female character checklist to come. Of course we will in FACT not have some of your favorites here, but all in due time. Relax. Just breathe. Deep breaths. No emails, no Facebook post, Tweets, Instagram notes. Breathe……breathe.

Avengers #144 (1976) – First Hellcat. George Perez art. Gil Kane cover. Nuff said.

It’s a huge week for Thor fans and speculators alike. Thor #8 will reveal who has been wielding the Mjolnir. Who is she? Is the question every comic fans wants to know. Thor #8 promises to reveal a shocking return as well. Which will be more shocking, the female behind the mask or the return? There will be a huge guest line up to help with the dramatics here. Everyone looks on as the mask is slowly taken off. Awesome storytelling to come here, very exciting.

Here is the bigger question for speculators out there regarding this book. Once the reveal happens, then what? Do you run and get the first appearance of that particular character? Do you hold onto the comic for longevity monetary gains? The answer is……no on longevity, yes on short term. Yes on the first appearance, yes on short term. Yes on short if it’s a non-female draw character. If it’s a Jane Foster character, that’s not a short term investment. Journey into Mystery #84 (1962) is the second appearance of Thor and first Jane Foster. You simply do not short term on that book.

Essentially what the speculator needs to do here is sell while the aftermarket explodes. Do not hold onto this comic thinking she will appear in a movie, a television show or her time as Thor will even sustain. Yes she’s been a kick as* Thor, but the love fest will lose momentum eventually. It’s extremely rare over the last 40+ years since comic companies have tried its hand in changing a gender does it ever work for long term. Maybe this character will. Maybe Thor-ette will break the mold and become a huge success. I certainly do not foresee this happening. Been wrong before! No one is perfect. So InvestComics’ speculation here calls for quick and concise sells, do not hold, you may get stuck with books that wind up in the dollar boxes. Will still be a fantastic read regardless of any speculation.

Secret Wars #2 is gearing up to completely annihilate the entire Marvel Universe to make room for a new one. Check out Battleworld in issue number two and what it basically is. The origin of a new Marvel Universe is upon us with a ton of variants for this issue. It’s going to be a long ride with this one, so strap in. We’ll see when all of the dust settles months from now what we are left with. In the meantime, be alert of any new characters popping up during the transition process.

And speaking of new characters. Darth Vader #5 will show some new Vader foes. You know how InvestComics feels about the new Marvel Star Wars books. Buy them all. Just ONE of them, be it a variant (more money to make), maybe not a variant or a graded/signed (even more money to possibly make) could pay for a few Bronze Age issues you really need in your collection. Just ONE, that’s all it takes. The first Aphra appearance (we gave you a heads up) in Darth Vader #3 did just that for some. Its since cooled off, but many speculators cashed in on it. Buy Marvel Star Wars comics. Read them, they’re great.

Click on the RED links or comic cover to buy/bid on Ebay right now.

A few Image Comics to check out this week. Mantle #1 is a straight up superhero comic. Remember those? And right, it has nothing to do with Mickey. The Phil Hester variant is a get. Also from Phil this week is Mythic #1. He writes this magic/mythic comic. InvestComics said this quite a while ago, but as the Dr. Strange movie draws closer and closer, we’ll see more and more of these magic books. Not a bad thing, but remember when The Walking Dead was at its height? Too many zombie books, so expect the same here. A $1.99 price point makes for happy comic book buyers. Injection #1; written by Warren Ellis will see sellouts. This interesting story will appeal to fans and its Warren Ellis so its a win. A Great Declan Shalvey and Jordie Bellaire cover helps too. Staying on topic of a great writer, Cullen Bunn will give fans a horror genre book; Harrow County #1. Probably looking at a sellout here too. Two followups this week regarding number one issues that sold well; Savior #2 (written by Todd McFarlane) and Runlovekill #2. Good starts, now lets read to see where these series are headed. And finally from Image, mythology fans will enjoy Five Ghost Special #1.

Look for Boom Studios to have a hit on their hands with Lantern City #1. Story by Paul Jenkins and Matthew Daley. Four variants are available at last count.

Injustice Gods Among Us Year Four #1 variant is sold out. What does this mean exactly? It means that the variant is sold out.

Quick lesson here (free for InvestComics readers). One way to always tell if something is not working out is by the way things look….literally. When a set on a late show is constantly changed, it means producers are looking for a fresh look, change things up because it’s not working out too well. Getting new advertising dollars in or keeping the current guy in is the game. New look, give us money! After a while, that marketing ploy runs its course and eventually bye-bye. DC comics has changed course how many times now with Superman’s costume, Wonder Woman, etc. It shows the chaotic means to maximize the dollar for them. We all see by the reaction to most fans that change isn’t always a good thing. Not a bad thing either by any stretch, but do it too often and you lose your audience (money). Maybe a case in point with the new Angela Asgard’s Assassin #6  issue. Angela gets a new costume. Already? How many times will this happen before readers don’t care anymore? Readers don’t care now! Marvel might be, not saying this as fact, might be trying to renew interest in a character that they just brought over to their universe because fans are tired of Angela already and sales are down? Maybe. Either way, who cares really?! New costume for Angela, enjoy the read.

Click on the RED links or comic cover to buy/bid on Ebay right now.

…..And DC continues their marketing plan with more Convergence comics. As said almost each week here why we think this is a big marketing campaign for DC. In short, many characters and groups are being brought back from obscurity. Why? Maybe to test the waters to see if they have the potential of monies to be made on new product. Pure speculation here. Let’s get to the Convergence titles…..

Starfire Starfire oh how bright you will shine. This is an exclusive poem from InvestComics. We hope DC will pay us royalties once they use it. Starfire will shine very bright when her solo comic arrives. Expect big things with storytelling and the aftermarket when it hits. This week in Convergence Green Arrow #2, Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palimotti will write a Starfire backup with art by Emanuela Lupacchino. This will be the exact creative team that will work on the ongoing Starfire series next month. This comic will be the first Starfire from this team, not the number one issue next month. So when the number one issue is exploding in the aftermarket as it will (please credit InvestComics when acting as though you knew it would), Convergence Green Arrow #2 should go along for the ride right? So a few things here. Buy Convergence Green Arrow #2, buy DC Comics Presents #26 (1980 – First New Teen Titans and Starfire) and buy Starfire #1 next month. And more thing, just for the record, artist Emanuela Lupacchino is the real deal. She flat out brings it. Watch out for her!

Thor_8_InvestComics_variantConvergence Batman Shadow of the Bat #2 will bring back the original Wetworks team from the Wildstorm days. That was fun back then. Wetworks first appeared in WildC.A.T.s: Covert Action Teams #2 (1992). And the rest of your Convergence titles; Convergence #6, Convergence Aquaman #2, Convergence Catwoman #2, Convergence Green Lantern Parallax #2, Convergence Justice League International #2, Convergence Suicide Squad #2, Convergence Superboy #2, Convergence Supergirl Matrix #2, Convergence Superman Man of Steel #2.

New Release Comics on 4/22/15 (And back issues)

Click on the RED links or comic cover to buy/bid on Ebay right now.

A new comic book week means a new week of Convergence titles from DC. Also a new week of speculating on some of them too, besides some good reads of course. Each week InvestComics touches on the Convergence titles to give a possible heads up on what DC MAY do in the future with possible new titles or characters reemerging in the DCU. This is pure speculating here. DC may never visit some of these characters again after they appear in this epic storyline, but it’s fun to take a look at some back issues to hunt down a first appearance. Like a Captain Carrot from a couple of weeks (and months) ago here on InvestComics.

Justice_League_of_America_v.1_Annual_2 Kamandi_1_InvestComics

Convergence Hawkman #1 will visit the land of Kamandi. Kamandi hasn’t really appeared in a whole lot of books considering he was introduced in 1972’s Kamandi, The Last Boy On Earth #1. Jack “King” Kirby is the cover artist and artist/creator of the character. A wonderful Bronze Age comic to have in you collection regardless if DC ever follows up with this character.

The Detroit Justice League will appear in Convergence Justice League America #1. Check out Detroit’s baddest gang and their first appearance in Justice League of America Annual #2 (1984). This comic also happens to be the first appearance of Vibe.

Convergence Superboy and The Legion #1 will feature the group Atomic Knights. They first appeared in Strange Adventures #117 (1960).

Click on the RED links or comic cover to buy/bid on Ebay right now.

And besides Convergence #3, here are the rest of the Convergence titles hitting the shelf this Wednesday; Convergence Adventures of Superman #1, Convergence Batman and The Outsiders #1, Convergence Flash #1, Convergence Green Lantern Corps #1, Convergence New Teen Titans #1, Convergence Swamp Thing #1 and Convergence Wonder Woman #1.

G.I. Joe Real America Hero #213 continues the “Death of Snake Eyes” storyline. Snake Eyes is one step closer to his comic book demise. Fans must be loving it because the comic is sold out across the board. Regular cover and variants.

With all of the Star Wars craze going on right now and with the Star Wars Marvel comic doing so well, it’s probably best to stay on top of this series and any other Star Wars related series from Marvel. The potential of any new introductions within the series will send the aftermarket into a frenzy. As proven with the heads up InvestComics gave everyone with Darth Vader #3 (since cooled off). So check out Star Wars #4 this week….

The Inhuman Special #1 will be a cool book to check out. Marvel states there will be a character to appear that hasn’t for 75 years until now. That’s neat. We look forward to see who it is.

Everything Star Wars is hot, so what better time than to release a titled book like Empire Uprising #1 to confuse everyone! IDW publishing puts out this awesome Mark Waid written, Barry Kitson drawn comic this Wednesday. Incidentally, the same creative team first introduced Empire back in 2000 under the Image Comics label; Empire #1. Great stuff. A couple of more interesting titles from IDW to check out; Infinite Loop #1 and Drones #1. Also a cool comic from IDW for the little ones; Littlest Pet Shop Spring Cleaning #1. The Littlest Pet Shop #1 first came out in 2014.

Two titles from Image Comics this Wednesday to check out are Beyond Belief #1 and Kaptara #1.

Guardians of the Galaxy #26 will feature a variant Howard the Duck Nirvana cover.

I.C.E. Bayou Black Out #1 from 12 Gauge comics is a looker. I.C.E. First appeared as a free comic book day comic back in 2011.

Avengers Magazine #1 has names attached like John Buscema and Jack Kirby. It’s a must get for any comic book enthusiast. Avengers Operation Hydra #1 will also be for comic book enthusiast, but especially Avengers fans.

New Release Comics on 4/1/15 (And back issues)

Click on the RED links or comic cover to buy/bid on Ebay right now.

An extremely busy week as far as speculation/reading goes. So many comics on tap coming out this Wednesday, but before we get to all of that we want to quickly touch on some other things.

If you haven’t done so already, you must join the hottest comic speculation Facebook page right now. The page is called InvestComics: Investing in Comic books 101 (IC Poet Society). Click the link to go directly there and request to join. One of our admins will approve you and the gates of speculation heaven will open up. So many great discussions going on there daily. It’s so informative and a chill environment. Please read the simple rules for the thread before proceeding though. It is not a thread for any fanboy to just post a random picture of a comic book within their collection. It’s a comic book speculation page. A big boy page. So go there now and join, get more informed, and most of all have fun.

InvestComics was at London Super Comic Con a couple of weeks ago. There were several pictures featured on the InvestComics Facebook page as well as our other social media outlets. Our London team lead by Giles Hargraves and Jamie Wright were superb. There are more pictures and some video forthcoming from the show. InvestComics is in the Netherlands this weekend covering the Dutch Comic Con. There are a few pictures posted on the InvestComics Facebook page and our other social media outlets right now. You should check them out. There are many pictures sitting in our bay that will be released from that show shortly. Our Netherlands corespondent Andres Sandoval is killing it right now. Be sure to follow all of the InvestComics social media to get the maximum impact of our Worldwide assault. Here are just a few of our networks of many to Like and follow;

The InvestComics Hot Picks have been a weekly speculation source for 10 years now. There are so many newcomers each and every week. It’s very important that you read the disclaimers. This goes for the veterans as well. Please read the disclaimers.

So what is the InvestComics Hot Picks article about? Many think this is a place to just post about the latest hot back issue comic that hit yesterday or a potential comic down the road because news came out last week about some possible movie. This weekly article covers the new comic releases that are coming out on Wednesday. That’s it. We give readers and speculators the heads up on potential books to either monetize on or just to enjoy a good read regarding new comic book day. There have been many emails, messages, random post saying “what about this book?!” or “Jay you should include this comic in your Hot Picks.” While we love and appreciate the input, this is not what this article is about. Never was in all of its ten years. We sometimes feature solo articles regarding the “breaking news” books. We also post on the InvestComics Facebook page and our other social media outlets. This is why it’s so important for speculators to follow and or like our pages too. InvestComics broke the Thor Hulkbuster comic on our Facebook page and also we gave the scoop on the Black Panther sister book, the Captain America Crossbones book, the Inhumans first appearance (more on this book in a bit), and the list goes on. Don’t miss out anymore, get over there! Again, as far as the InvestComics Hot Picks go, this is strictly about the new comics coming out and then touching on the older comics that relate to the new ones. The real money is within the older books we have always recommended. If you were privy enough to capitalize on all of the back issues we have recommended, you are sitting on a beautiful collection. As always said here regarding the new books; buy new to buy old.

A NEW WEEKLY article will be hitting this week, so look out for it. The new article is going to be fun and we cannot wait to share it with everyone. Look for it before new comic book day on Wednesday. We also want to thank everyone for making the other weekly new article; InvestComics Top 5 a hit too. The response has been a great one. Continue to look for that before Wednesday too.

So let’s get to this crazy busy week…..

Click on the RED links or comic cover to buy/bid on Ebay right now.

Another year, another big event. DC comics is promising to change things drastically (again) with their Convergence event. The event starts up with Convergence #0 this week. The event claims to cover the lifespan of the entire DC Universe. Sounds like fun! Probably going to be some awesome reading ahead here. Probably also going to be the potential of some first appearances too which is always nice. What we do know is there will be completely new looks for many of the characters. How well received will these costumes be? So far 50/50. Will it equate to a speculation rally? Potentially yes, but maybe not for that long. It really depends on a couple of factors. If the new looks will make its way to the big screen and or sustain the duration of its title and not changing it again and again, which tends to happen more often than not. Thus killing the spec market on the new costume deal. The new Superman duds seem to be the one drawing a lot of flack. Oh well, DC doesn’t care what the fanboy wants, they never did and rightly so. They shouldn’t cater to the few. The many pay the bills, not the screaming fanboy. So for now that’s what DC wants and that’s what they will stick with….for now. As for Convergence, great potential on a big storyline here, the spec side is a wait and see. One thing we will give you a heads on is the Adam Hughes Convergence variant is sold out already. A good book to possibly get signed and graded quickly to flip. A pricey $50 variant (now $100 already) makes for making real money a bit harder though. Must score a high grade here to max your return.

New 52 Futures End #48 will have possible ties to Convergence, so pick this one up if you are all in on the Convergence deal.

Harley Quinn #16 will feature the debut of the Gang of Harley’s. What more do you need here really? A Harley comic with an introduction? Yes, massive potential here. Two $15 variants are sold out. The Left hand variant and the right hand variant. No really, those are the variants. Be sure to click the red link to buy/bid on Ebay right now if you want this one. There is also a very cool WonderCon variant as well. We told you to click the Darth Vader #3 link last week when the variant there was $9.99, did you do that? Should have right?

Click on the RED links or comic cover to buy/bid on Ebay right now.

Fantastic_Four_45_InvestComics Inhumans_InvestComics (3)

The Inhumans is one of those teams that InvestComics has recommended over the years time and time again. With Uncanny Inhumans #0 coming out this week, it’s time to strongly reiterate the absolutely, positively one of the best investments sitting out there right now. That investment is Fantastic Four #45 (1965). Could care less how high the price is for this comic right now. Buy it. Buy it. Buy it. This comic still has upside and will not stop for many many years. Here’s why and please remember to credit InvestComics with this information okay? Thanks. Fox Studios will not give up the rights to the X-Men over to Marvel Studios. What is the big mouse to do right? Well this is very easy. Go with their other team that is the closest thing to the X-Men and franchise. In come the Inhumans. Why do you think the title of this comic is “Uncanny” Inhumans? The Inhumans movie is going to be huge. So huge that the Inhumans will have their own movie flow as does the X-Men. Their own storyline, their own individual universe if you will. The Inhumans team will turn the comic book “team” concept movie upside down on its head as did the Guardians of the Galaxy. But the Inhumans will rival the X-Men and that is going to be some serious cash flow for Marvel Studios and more importantly the comic book speculators. Buy the Inhumans. Buy the Inhumans. Buy a low grade Fantastic Four #45 if you do not have the cash to buy a high grade. The low grade is better than NOT having that book at all. It must be in your collection. So go to your local comic shop and see what they have. Click on the red Fantastic Four #45 link to shop on Ebay. We cannot stress enough how much up side this book has. As for the Uncanny Inhumans #0 comic this week, it will focus on the leader of the group, Black bolt. A good pick up here, but a long wait time to make any real monies. The $50 Siya Oum is already sold out. This might be the better buy with a high grade and signature(s) on it. Fantastic Four #45 is where it’s really at.

Marvel continues their onslaught of new Star Wars books this week with Kanan Last Padawan #1. It seems with Marvel’s Star Wars these days, everything is hot. Will this comic be hot? Probably, maybe. Will it last? Maybe. Does it have big buy potential? Not really, but that can change rather quickly in the world of comics. All this character needs is an announcement of appearing in one of the new Star Wars movies and you have yourself a frenzy. That hasn’t happened. It may never happen. So what happens then? Well you then have an animated character making his solo comic debut. Actually an earlier appearance in print is in Star Wars Rebels magazine #2 from last month, but who’s paying attention to that? Ha! Click that red link if you want that magazine. But getting back, animated characters never equate to big dollar signs in comic books unless your name is Harley Quinn. A breakout will happen occasionally, but it’s a rarity for animation characters to bring a big return for speculators. Buy the Kanan Last Padawan #1 comic this Wednesday for a good read and a $4.99 risk. Maybe something will occur. Maybe the comic will get hot right out of the gate and you have yourself a hot book to resell. Anything is possible. The TV show variant ($10) and the Killian Plunkett variant ($15) are both sold out. So if you think the potential is there, buy them. Remember one thing (as said here quite often), sold out comics DO NOT mean there is money to be made. It’s just a heads up for the speculator to make a judgment call.

Click on the RED links or comic cover to buy/bid on Ebay right now.

A couple of weeks ago InvestComics gave fans a running start on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #44 comic. The “death” of a character was the calling there. Turns out it was Donatello and it looks as though he will make it to issue number 45 after all. This week we present the storyline that will give readers the demise of long time character Snakeyes from G.I. Joe. Look for G.I. Joe #212 for the beginning of the end for Snake Eyes. The problem with death in comic books is that there is no death in comic books. No one stays dead. This storyline however will be a hot one. Lots of eyeballs will be on it. Lots of speculators on it. Do not look for long term here. This is going to be a great story, but Snake Eyes will come back eventually. Maybe as someone else, but the character will be back in some form. IDW will bring it as they always do, so definitely check out this storyline. The Larry Hama and Anthony Fuso variants are both sold out. If you’re in the market for these books, better it now if you want them at a lower price. There are currently no G.I Joe #212 comics on Ebay. Many speculators are holding of to see where the marketplace goes. Otherwise you’ll have to wait a while for the prices to come back down to a normal level after the frenzy dies down to purchase a copy.

GI_Joe_InvestComics Harley_Quinn_InvestComics (1) Spider_Gwen_3_InvestComics

Long time friends of InvestComics; Creature Entertainment have a hit on their hands. Check out Ravenous #1 this Wednesday. If you ever have the chance to get on over to the Creature Entertainment booth at a convention, do yourself a favor and do so. John Ulloa and Jose Navarro are great guys. Their product is superb too. Killer artist Jose Varese is part of the team and is the penciler on Ravenous #1. Support this Indie company Creature Entertainment and buy this already sold out comic. The variant is a beauty too.

Wonder Woman continues her torrid pace thanks to David and Meredith Finch. Wonder Woman #40 features one of those cool movie variants. InvestComics has touched on a few of the movie variants to have some fun with and either monetize on or to have a one of a kind book for your collection. Wonder Woman #40 features the 300 movie variant. Get actor Gerard Butler and artist for the cover Bill Sienkiewicz to sign this comic. Get it witnessed/graded and you have yourself an amazing book. Again, we don’t want to get fan mail or fanboys screaming “How do I get actor Gerard Butler to sign my comic??? He’s never at a comic convention!!!” Stop it. Really, stop it. This is all in F U N. The odds of running into ANY of the people we suggested to sign your movie comic variants in the last few weeks is extremely slim. You will probably never get Prince, Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin, Tommy Lee Jones, etc, but the potential of ever getting an opportunity to get a signed/graded comic book movie variant by Prince is just flat out fun. Please calm down with the actual thinking that InvestComics is telling fans to actually find these celebrities and get this done. It’s merely an outside the box way of thinking to get a unique book in your collection or to sell. Oh and by the way, Wonder Woman #40 David Finch variant is sold out.

Avengers Ultron Forever #1 will fast forward 500 years into the future. Ultron has won and all humans are now extinct. Dr. Strange brings the Avengers from the past to try and defeat Ultron. Fun times! Superheroes fighting villains, we all love that right? The three part series is brought to you by the awesome artistry of Alan Davis. Two variants are extinct already; the Black Widow and the Captain America. Expect sell outs across the board here.

When talking about the return of comic book characters earlier and how they never really die, they return in some way or another eventually. Wolverines #13 will be just that. Wolverine is “dead” but Deadpool will bring him back in his own way. Yes there will be a Wolverpool? Deadvernie? However you want to call it, but this will be the debut of something. That something being Deadpool as Wolverine. A hot book as a novelty, nothing substantial to come of this later on.

And speaking on debuts, there might be one in Iron Fist Living Weapon #11 this week. Thumb through it to see what’s what.

Kanan_InvestComics Punisher_InvestComics Ravengers_1_InvestComics

Spider-Gwen #3 will guest star the Punisher. There are so many variants with this issue. Nice too though. Earth 2 Worlds End #26 has Darkseid winning it all. He’s a bad dude. And have you seen the cover on this one? Darkseid dangling the defeated heroes in the air like dead mice. So awesome. Sticking on topic about covers, the new Nailbiter #11 cover is as disturbing as the number one issue isn’t it? The Punisher #17 cover by Mitch Gerads is awesome too.

The new Puppet Master #1 will have 24 variant covers. Yes that’s 24, not a typo.

Two followups to sold out number one comics come this Wednesday. Blackcross #2 and Citizen of the Galaxy #2. Let’s see if readership keeps in stride and good word comes out that these series are for real.

Here is the long list of number one comics to check out this week; UFOlogy #1, Arkham Manor Engame #1, True Believers Age of Apocalypse #1, True Believers Marvel Zombies #1, Avengers Millennium #1, Sinestro Annual #1, Empire of the Dead Act Three #1, Rick and Morty #1, Gotham Academy Endgame #1 will have a possible introduction here, Poet Anderson Dream Walker #1, Guardians of the Galaxy Best Story Ever #1, No Mercy #1, Hoax Hunters #1, My Little Pony Fiendship is Magic #1 and Looking For Group #1. Wow that’s a lot of number one comics coming out. Better get those reading glasses on.

In NO particular order:

Darth_Vader_3_InvestComicsDarth Vader #3 (Marvel) – InvestComics released its InvestComics Hot Picks #364 on its usual Sunday spot. Three days prior to new comic book day. This comic has become the hottest book on the planet. Here’s a quote from Sunday’s InvestComics Hot Picks “Click this link to Darth Vader #3 and get on Ebay right away if you want to be a part of the next hot book in the aftermarket.” There were quite a few copies going for cover price when the article went up. No so much thereafter. Can’t say we didn’t warn you.

Deathstroke #8 (DC) (2012) – This comic had a few copies up for grabs when the Sunday article hit. Now there is only one up on Ebay with a few bids on it. This is the first appearance of Deathstoke’s daddy.

Batman ’66 #21 (DC) – Introduction of Lord Death Man.

Hit 1957 #1 – Good looking read from Boom Studios.

Jem and the Holograms #1 – IDW’s girl power book is garnering some clicks on Ebay. Worth a look, no doubt.

New Release Comics on 3/25/15 (And back issues)

CLICK any RED Link or Comic cover to Buy/Bid on comics in this article on Ebay

There are so many new speculators coming on board that every once in a while there needs to be a little reminder here on InvestComics as to how this works…..

Just want to urge any new speculators (and veterans too) here to please read the disclaimers that appear in these articles each and every week before proceeding. It’s extremely important in understanding how this weekly modern comic book speculation article works. This is mostly a modern comics speculation article that appears here each and every week. InvestComics will RARELY EVER urge anyone to hold onto a modern book for a profit. We have ALWAYS recommended to hold a Bronze, Silver and or a Golden, but a Modern comic? We want to capitalize as quickly as possible with those. Buy them, bag em’, sell em’. Sometimes this means to take a $20 profit and not a $150 one. It will happen, and that has to be acceptable to the investor. No emotional attachment, just a profit and move along. Get it on the next one. If the investor is inclined to hold onto their comic, there will most likely be a loss. Your portfolio will be in the red and it will get quite frustrating to get out of and into the black. There is absolutely nothing said just now in this paragraph that has not been addressed hundreds of times over the last 10 years InvestComics has been giving away its free speculation advice. We want fans to come here and enjoy themselves first and foremost. That’s always been the main priority. Second priority is to possibly come away with some knowledge you were not aware of when you first arrived here. Third is to possibly turn a profit on some modern books that are recommended here. And the fourth, mostly importantly here is to take that money (besides paying a bill or two – real life stuff) and reinvest in a Bronze, Silver or a Golden Age comic. That is where the true money value is within these articles for 10 years. Again, mentioned over the years here on InvestComics, nothing groundbreaking. That’s it for now on a mini update on how some of this all works.

Darth_Vader_3_InvestComics Darth_Vader_3_InvestComics_Alphra

Silk, Spider-Gwen, Ms. Marvel, She Hulk, Harley Quinn, Powergirl, Wonder Woman and the list goes on. As previously mentioned on InvestComics recently (and about 6 years ago) the female comic book character is seriously making their indelible mark as of late. That’s a fantastic thing and a long time coming too. No more in the background as a secondary character. No more eye candy for that gratuitous chest shot to sell a comic book. Although the sexy covers are still done, they have diminished a bit. The female comic character’s are in such demand for their own independence that Marvel has the A-Force #1 comic coming out to push the proverbial envelope even further. Not stating any of these moves spell for a successful campaign, but it will call for a successful marketing campaign regarding putting the female character front and center. Whether any of the attempts by either of the big two to push the strong woman as a lead will succeed depends on a simple measure. Good story telling. That’s it. Simple, but it’s the only way fans will truly pay attention to any of the movement here. Must have a compelling story. If not, it will fail. Great artwork (eye appeal) will take you so far. The artwork is the initial marketing ploy to draw the consumer eye in. Once in, there must be substance there to sustain the consumer to “stick around”. If the consumer does not connect the dots, the campaign fails. So next time you see that hot comic with “so-so” artwork going (in your opinion), realize that it’s the guts of that book (the writer) driving it home along with the artist. It’s the artist that is solidifying the writers thoughts and impacting the flow of the great story. So in essence the “team” works in tandem and a great book is born. This is all free marketing advice that most pay for in college or through other sources, but for you today….free (thanks Raf for that “free” usage line). So why all of this marketing and female character talk you ask? Well, there could be one of the hottest possible Star_Wars_Droids_2_InvestComicsspeculation comics on the planet coming out this week, so you better be on top of this one. Click this link to Darth Vader #3 and get on Ebay right away if you want to be a part of the next hot book in the aftermarket. Of course your local comic shop will probably have copies, but not for long! So best to click and buy now. The reason to seriously consider getting this comic is for a couple of reasons. The first reason is because of the introduction of a new female character named Aphra. The second is because this is the very first introduction of a any new Star Wars characters within the Marvel Universe since around 1986 when they were introducing a bunch of Droids in Star Wars Droids #2. The art and cover work features John Romita Sr. at the helm for the first five issues. That’s just way too cool isn’t it? Darth Vader #3 will probably be a big aftermarket comic because speculators will not know where Aphra will end up. Will she ever get her own title? Will she be such an in-depth character that fans will demand more? Will she be featured in one of the new Star Wars films? Maybe none of this comes to fruition. This is where most speculators get caught. In the middle. Do I sell now? Do I take a profit? What if the book goes up another $100? The simple answer, who cares? Get your profit (of your choosing) and get out. If you are so inclined to worry about getting the top dollar, buy two copies then. Stash away one and sell the other. But, by doing things like this you run a HUGE risk of having too much inventory, thus creating a negative within your portfolio over time due to the unbalance of the two sides. Too much inventory equates to loss of profit if it supersedes your sell off point of one comic. So in laments terms; If you have a Star Wars #1 variant and sold it for $250, but you have another 20 copies you spent $35 for sitting in inventory, you are actually -$450. You must now hope that the market stays hot (which it mostly does for a very short time). The numbers here are purely made up, the same goes if you buy even two variant comics at a high price or 100 or 50, etc. Sell those variants of hot modern books when you feel they are peeked. An amazing tool coming soon to help speculators with this and it’s called CMV. InvestComics has seen the inner working’s/backend of this glorious comic book speculation tool and it’s a game changer. We are working closely with CMV to be a one and one tandem so that the speculator will have a lot of knowledge within their grasp between the both sites. More on this coming, but for now check out CMV and you will see exactly what the market is doing on certain books. Now back to Darth Vader #3! A great comic to speculate on this week and is easily the top pick in this InvestComics Hot Pick article by far.

Deathstroke_6_InvestComics Deathstroke_8_InvestComics

One of InvestComics’ favorite characters since the inception of the magazine/site has been Deathstroke. We recommended the first appearance of Deathstroke when it was only about $20 at one time. We love the character and as we so often say around here, Teen Titans #2 (1980) is still in buy mode. However, this week Deathstroke seems to have some daddy issues. Check out Deathstroke #6 as his badas* looking dad comes into the mix. Slade’s father first appeared in the previous Deathstroke series; Deathstroke #8 (2012).

Batman ’66 #21 will introduce “Lord Death Man”. This might be a good pick up if you like introductions.

A couple of odd number one comics coming this Wednesday to check out. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad #1 is based on the world famous Disney ride. A comic based on a Disney ride. Yes you heard that right. Some very nice variants too with this one. Click the link, check them out. And Miami Vice Remix #1 from awesome writer Joe Casey. Based on the super hot Miami Vice television series from the 80’s. Two different comics with a lot of fun attached to them probably.

The rest of the number one comics to definitely check out this week are; the confusion of Multiversity Ultra Comics #1 and what is going on with anything pertaining to Multiversity. This number one issue is “groundbreaking” we think in a way we have no way of explaining or knowing why. Extremely confusing, but worth a mention for others to weigh in and help others out! Hit 1957 #1 from Boom Studios looks like an interesting read if you like crime stories. More girl power this week with IDW’s Jem and the Holograms #1. Written by Kelly Thompson. Might be her first comic series series work. A new team based comic from Dark Horse; Pastaways #1 by fantastic creators Matt Kindt and Scott Kolins is worth a look. Bryan J. L. Glass and Michael Avon Oeming team up once again for their latest Mice Templar offering; Mice Templar Nights End #1. We Can Never Go Home #1 from Black Mask Comics looks like a good read.

Squarriors #1 showed a lot of interest with fans. Now lets see if Squarriors #2 sustains that interest with readers.

Two sold out comics this week that will amount to nothing more than a novelty item years from now Batman and Robin #40 and Justice League Dark #40, but can be profited on IF, IF, IF one can pull this off. A few things here. A few fans said a couple of weeks ago, how do you get a premier artist like recording artist Prince to sign a comic book? How can you suggest that? The book referred to was the Batgirl Purple Rain DC movie variant. Their were other movie variants also mentioned, but this was one of the few comments sent out regarding this particular book. Here’s the thing. InvestComics suggested that IF one can SOMEHOW pull this off, maybe never, but SOMEHOW pull ANY of these movie variant covers off that we suggest, then kudos to you!! It’s all based on the fun of actually trying to get this done somehow. We never said to go to your local comic convention and get Keenu Reeves to sign your Speed variant cover. We understand he is not readily available to sign a comic book, so please do take these fun suggestions and roll with it. Do not take these in the literal sense. One more thing. A sold out comic DOES NOT equate to automatic money. Walking Dead sells out each and every month, doesn’t mean anything. Too many times, fans are under the assumption that if a book sells out, it’s worth money and a flip can ensue. Not always the case. The flip happens when demand exceeds supply or when demand wants to hoard more copies. A sold out comic means nothing in the aftermarket if there is no substance. Will you pay $600 for a Star Wars #1 variant right now? Why not? It’s sold out right? Yes sold out and plenty of copies to go around. Plus more importantly, nothing of interest for the speculator to hold onto regarding that comic on the inside. A first appearance? A death? A possible movie character? A hot new artist? Writer? None of the above here. What you do have is a good read. That in itself should be good enough. It’s ultimately up to the individual (as always) to determine what sold out comic is worth pursuing and capitalizing on. Get the book on Ebay right away and take profits on moderns. That’s some of the best advice InvestComics can offer you. If you love, you will lose. This is why tradepaper backs were created. Read those, love those.

Batman_Robin_Harry_Potter_InvestComics Justice_League_40_InvestComics

Now back to the DC movie variants this week. Get a hold of Daniel Radcliffe or Ralph Fiennes or any of the other major players in the Harry Potter movie to sign your Batman and Robin #40 book. Be sure to have that witness and get it graded. This is the only way you’ll have that one of a kind awesome comic. If you happen to run into Michael Keaton, Alec Baldwin or Genna Davis, have them sign your Justice League Dark #40 comic. Same here applies; witness/graded. Michael has been a round some shows over the years so maybe that signature is feasible? Nah! Still a hard get. But fun to try!

Invest wisely. Read comics.

Carpe Diem.
