Mindbender #1 – (Scout Comics) – InvestComics gave the first heads up to fans regarding Scout Comics with ‘Henchgirl’. We made a ton of cash for you speculators on that one. Then came ‘Once Our Land’. Much of the same here. Now comes Mindbender #1. Sold out at the distributor level. Three’s a charm. Mindbender #1 is written by James Pruett with art by Frederico De Luca.
MediSin #1 – (Action Lab Entertainment) – This new ALE series is completely sold out as well. Writers Jeff Dyer and Mark McKeon. Art by David Brame.
Regression #1 – (Image Comics) – The regular ‘spawn’ variant is sold out. Writer Cullen Bunn and artist Marie Enger may deliver the next hit Image series.
All-Star Batman #10 – A possible intro of a new character.
Weapon X #3 – Domino seems to be making more noise these days. She dons this awesome cover. Read the InvestComics Hot Picks #474 for more on the Domino character.

The Guardians Of The Galaxy will make millions of dollars and Marvel Comics will be jumping in on some of that cash. A solo Rocket Raccoon comic debuts; Rocket #1. This rodent is so cool that he gets a ‘first name’ self- titled comic. No longer referred by his raccoon name, Rocket will blast off with comic fans. Written by Al Ewing and art by Adam Gorham.
This week’s Deadpool #30 comic is 80 pages(?). We’re not too sure if that’s a true statement from Marvel or it’s just a Deadpool goofy joke thing. If true, this is fantastic. It’s always a treat getting more comic book pages to read. A Rob Liefeld variant will be hitting with the 80 page giant…..maybe 80 pages, but Rob is on board. The 80 page giant size issue (maybe) is written by Gerry Duggan, art by Nathaniel Hawthorne.

It looks as though Marvel is trying to work Wonder Man back into the Marvel Universe fold, more so. The character has appeared sporadically throughout many years and now maybe is ready to branch out once again? Maybe. Check out this weeks Uncanny Avengers #23, WW leads the story. The first appearance of Wonder Man is still at a very reasonable price point. Check out Avengers #9 (1964). We think Marvel will be giving the character Domino the same treatment. Although she’s appeared in many books over the last few years, not nearly enough as an A-lister. As Deadpool 2 draws nearer and Domino’s stock continues to rise, look for Domino to start appearing more often in the Marvel Universe as she appears in this weeks Weapon X #3. Domino will be getting her own solo series sooner rather than later. You’ll see. Her first appearance is in X-Force #11 (1992) (so says the graded comic book world). That makes X-Force #13 (1992) her second appearance…….on Ebay right now for 99 cents and your local comic shops one dollar box.
A new Star Wars series; Star Wars: The Screaming Citadel #1. Writer Kieron Gillen and artist Marco Checchetto.
Marvel adapts the Zombies Assemble Manga into English. Writers Jim Zub and Yusaku Komiyama (art).  A Tony Moore semi-zombie cover too.

With the influx of female characters making their way into the comic book medium these days, with lots of thanks to Disney (Marvel) making it so that the female character shows more of a “character side” as they have never before, we wanted to make sure to recognize some of the keys players. We completely understand that female characters have been around since the inception of comic books (no need for a history lesson, stop typing that email or Facebook post), but there is a movement happening in the past few years to the likes we have never really seen in case you haven’t realized it. Disney put a female lead in its new Star Wars movie, now the next Star Wars movie (Rouge One) will ALSO be a female lead. They know what they’re doing and their comics are following the same guidelines. So as is everyone else in the comic book industry. Much like what always happens with InvestComics and everyone following us or emulating. We’re flattered though. Like Disney.

Listed below are some new comics, some old comics and characters WE like. This will be the first installment of more Female character checklist to come. Of course we will in FACT not have some of your favorites here, but all in due time. Relax. Just breathe. Deep breaths. No emails, no Facebook post, Tweets, Instagram notes. Breathe……breathe.

Comic Broker Report – Second Appearances

Serious collectors whom I speak with usually frown upon the 2nd appearance but like the recent popularity of reprints like Action Comics 1, Amazing Fantasy 15, certain Marvel Milestones and others it shows the continuing evolution of what makes a  comic desirable.  Some of the Action Comics 1 reprinst are fairly tough to track down.  Add a low printing and a craving from collectors and sales take off…

So do you want to stay ahead of market trends?  Start hoarding these:

Nightwing ( Dick Grayson )

So I have been told that the annual is Nightwing’s second appearance but issue 45 was released in August of 1984 and issue 44 in July.  I cannot find a release date for the annual so until I do I am going with 45 as Nightwing’s second appearance.  It’s important to note that Comic Collector 3 predates 44 and does show Nightwing in Costume.  That could make it the true first appearance of Nightwing and 44 his second.  Wow that’s a bit confusing.  Just buy them all.

405_20050924143112_large54614_20060929090950_large

Notable Comics:  The Comic Collector 3 predates Teen Titans 44, DC Sampler 2 ( September 1984 )

Cable

New Mutants 88

Cable has never looked as good thanks to Mcfarlane not that other chump.

4685_20060818161508_large

Notable comics:  New Mutants 86; he appears  at the end in a preview panel for next month’s issue!, Amazing Spider-Man 336 is his first appearance outside of a New Mutants Comic.

Venom

ASM 315

Ok so ASM 299 is considered a cameo making 300 his first appearance and this comic his second:

13117_20051126171121_large

Notable Comics: Web of Spider-Man 18,24  and if you collect Foreign comics:

228072_20111023111826_large

X-23

With rumors that she may take over as Wolverine it’s time to revisit her limited key books:

Nyx 4 is her second.

231_20060316091233_large

Notable Comics: X-Men 450 ( newsstand ), Nyx 5, Might Marvel Must Haves

45584_20111231160112_large

Domino

2674945-x_force__1991_2002_1st_series__008

As X-Force 11 creeps up in price due to the fact that many believe it to be her first appearance it has become clear that a market correction needs to be made.  Her first appearance is on the cover of New Mutants 98 even though it is a copycat Domino.  So if her likeness first appears in NM 98 then why are so many bent on believing her first appearance to be in X-Force 11?  X-Force 8 is her 2nd.

Note:  There has been no conformation that she will be appearing in the Deadpool film.

Welcome to the InvestComics Hot Picks for new comic releases on 11-7-12.

Now that DC’s Universe is in full flux with all of the number one and number zero issues out of the way, we come to another relaunch of sorts. Marvel NOW! is starting to makes its way into our little comic book collecting world. It’s become an absurdity at this point with the revamping of the heroes and villains to the point it’s very laughable. Change is necessary within everyday life. Change is good. That said, too much constant change within the “entertainment” genre is not always a good thing……

HOT PICKS

[scrollGallery id=188]

This week Marvel Now! goes with two restarts in Iron Man (2012 5th Series) #1 and Deadpool (2012 3rd Series) #1. Yes it’s Marvel Comics turn at the money grab. Here’s a bold prediction. Iron Man will go back to the original numbering when it matters…..to sell books! Well maybe not such a bold prediction, but we all do know that’s going to happen. As for Deadpool, well he was at one point the most over used Marvel Universe character right next to Wolverine. What? We have poor sales in Moon Knight? Throw Wolverine in there! Punisher sales down a little? Throw Deadpool in there! So if you are reading this right now it means one of two things. A: You are a comic fan and you just like to see what’s what or B: You are a comic book collector, which brings us to the first appearances of Wade and Tony. Wade’s first appearance came during a time of epic comic book collecting in the sense that many thought by buying multiple copies of certain comics you were going to retire at the age of 35. Not the case. Actually, STILL isn’t the case. But having fun talking about this stuff in today’s climate will never stop. The days of buying an abundance of number one issues or special foil/3D/gatefold/etc comics are long gone. As said in many articles on InvestComics before, there is a wiser/savvy investor within the collectors market these days. If you were a product of this era in the early 90’s then you probably, most likely have about 10 copies of Deadpool’s first appearance in New Mutants #98 (1991). If you do not already own this comic, then you probably should. And incidentally, X-Men (2010 2nd Series) #38 this week has Domino appearing in those pages which also happens to first appear in New Mutants #98….so when all is said and done (whenever or whatever that means), Deadpool will be left standing with his rightful place in the comic book world. Whether you like him or not, Deadpool will be around for quite some time. In contrast, Iron Man was one of those characters always finding and needling his way throughout the Marvel Universe. Never really a “top tier” guy like Spidey or Hulk. He has however found his niche, much to do with the films than anything else. The Iron Man comics still seem to be trying to find their way, so much so that just as the Avengers film came out they tried changing Iron Man’s armor altogether. That lasted a hot minute, then back to the regular suit, now another relaunch. Sounds ridiculous doesn’t it? Well that’s the climate of the comics today, deal. Iron Man’s first appearance came in the pages of Tales of Suspense #39 (1963). If you do not own THIS comic, well the ship has sailed for you and you’ll be paying a pretty hefty fee if you want it, although still a good long term investment here. In comparison, Deadpool would be a LONG LONG term investment. Both books nice to have in your collection, but Tony is the prize here.

Speaking of nice books to have in your collection, how about what Avenging Spider-Man (2011) #14 is offering up? Within the pages of Avenging Spidey we have Devil Dinosaur and Moon Boy! Cool! Bringing the fun back in comic books! So what’s to own here you ask? How about the first appearance of Devil Dinosaur and Moon Boy? I know, you’re saying “huh?” Yes, that’s right. Just buy the Devil Dinosaur #1 (1978) comic and open up to the first page. Writer, Penciler and Editor; Jack “King” Kirby! The legend himself put his stamp all over this comic (series) and you should have this in your collection. Nuff said.

The sleeper of the week has to go to Shadowman (2012 4th Series) #1. Valiant Comics are making their comeback and Shadowman looks to propel itself right into the mix of things. Look for Shadowman’s alter ego first appearance as a cameo (Jack Boniface) in X-O Manowar #4 (1992) and as Shadowman in Shadowman #1 (1992). Two comics to own before the series takes off as a huge success.

In what seems to be one of the most disturbing comic book covers of all time, Colder (2012 Dark Horse) #1 will be a sellout due to the cover alone as curiosity will get the best of most fans. Grab it before you miss out. Other number one issues to check out this week are Freelancers (2012 Boom) #1 and 47 Ronin (2012) #1.

That’s it for this week, invest wisely.
