The Angels are back, baby! -The original Angels, Jill, Kelly and Sabrina! Travel back to the swingin’ 70s, and revisit the butt-kicking, crime-fighting, mold-breaking lady detectives who took 70s TV by storm, ready to do the same to comics 40 years later! Break out your bell-bottoms, feather your hair, and jump back to a era of peanut-farmer presidents, gargantuan gas-guzzlers and foxy female detectives… for a globe-trotting adventure that’s simply too big and epic for the 70s-era boob tube. Written by elderly Eisner winner and solicitation-writing former-superstar John Layman, and with art by his scrappy but lovable youngster pal, Joe Eisma. This is one comic you DON’T DARE TO MISS!!!!

Winner will be announced on June 28th, 2018.
Good luck!

Each week InvestComics seeks out a comic(s) on Ebay for $100 or less and then brings it to the attention of our fans. We call it IC 100 Club Pick. The idea is to get a great book at a great price. We do not own nor are we selling these comics. The comics are found by a random process. We do not know the ebay seller(s), nor are we promoting the Ebay seller. Any knowing from the Ebay seller of InvestComics or its affiliates is purely coincidental. (See disclaimer for more details).

IC 100 Club Pick: Batman The Cult #1 (1998) 9.8. Here is a classic Batman story told in four issues from two of the industries best in the biz. Writer Jim Starlin and artist Bernie Wrightson have their hands on this series. They also have their hand in actually signing the cover of this fabulous comic. A MERE $79.99 price tag for two legends of the industry signing the cover here. This is a beauty at that price, for this grade. Buy this now, here, before it’s gone forever. This will be a sure fire collectors item 25 years from now. Jim and Bernie are comic book industry legends because of their styles and the way they told their stories. The industry has learned and follows these two giants because of their amazing talents. This is an amazing book to own. Period.

Marvel readers be warned, New Avengers #16 will bring some big time twist and turns within the pages of this book on Wednesday.

InvestComics has a serious influence on the comic book market and industry. Sorry haters, but the truth be told. We mentioned the first issue of Spider-Man Deadpool #1 as a no-brainer speculative/read comic quite a while ago. We predicted a sell out. Naturally (and obviously) this happened. It’s on its 8th printing. As each issue came out we told fans to keep getting each issue. Not only because the series was a well written, action packed book, but the fact that each issue kept selling out. We stated this phrase; “…..each book in this series keeps selling out, so get on top of this…” Well guess who now uses that line as part of their “up-sell” of this series? Yes you got it, Marvel does! You’re welcome guys/gals! So with all of our gloating and patting ourselves on the back out of the way, we arrive to Spider-Man Deadpool #9 this week. Itsy-Bitsy first appeared in the last issue, find out who or what she’s about this coming Wednesday. As for the series? We’re still in the bull market here (bullish). Hey Marvel…….”We’re still in bull market mode regarding the Spider-Man Deadpool series”. It’s okay, you can use it if you’d like, just some credit this time maybe?? And hey Image Comics, the same to you! C’mon guys! Relax fanboys, just having fun here. Save your thread messages and emails, we never listen to what you have to say anyway.

Doctor Strange And The Sorcerers Supreme #1 will debut in late October. It will feature the first appearance of some characters on the new team Doctor Strange will put together. Marvel clued fans onto this info a while back, but it looks as though fans may get the first appearance(s) happening a bit earlier in this week’s Doctor Strange Annual #1. The Sorcerers Supreme team may appear in this book before their ‘official’ debut a few weeks later in late October.
Deadpool Annual #1 will feature his ‘Insufferable Pals’. Those pals will be Firestar and Iceman. This annual is obviously spoofing on the Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends #1 from 1981, which happens to feature the first appearance of Firestar in Marvel’s continuity.
Spider-Gwen #12 pits Spider-Gwen against the Punisher. Should be a fun fight! Go Frank! (Did we say that out loud?). A very cool B&W Baltimore Comic Con variant exist of the regular cover on Ebay. Be sure to check that cover out too when you click the link.
Cosplay guru Riki ‘Riddle’ Lecotey has sold out her Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #12 variant cover. Kudos Riki!

Writer Dan Jurgens and artist Ryan Sook bring fans the new Batman Beyond Rebirth #1 title. The delayed Blue Beetle #1 comes out this week. This book is brought to us by Keith Giffen (writer) and Scott Kolins (pencils).
A few weeks ago, readers learned more about the villain Harley Sinn. Find out who Harley Sinn actually is in the revealing of her identity in Harley Quinn And Her Gang Of Harleys #6.
Deathstroke writer Christopher Priest continues to make his title a go-to book each month. Deathstroke #3 brings Rose Wilson (The Ravager) front and center. Rose Wilson (Ravager) first appeared in Deathstroke The Terminator #15 (1992). A very affordable first appearance…..at the moment. And check out the awesome Shane Davis variant. The Ravager looks fantastic. And also, have you seen our Deathstroke checklist that came out in May 2015 on InvestComics? It’s quite the extensive list. Not only will Valiant Entertainment’s X-O Manowar #50 be a spectacular 64 page anniversary issue, but the variant covers that will accompany this issue are gorgeous. We’ve narrowed down to four covers we love the most, but readers should, without a doubt get a copy of X-O Manowar #50 this Wednesday no matter which cover! Here are the four covers we dig the most; Kaare Andrews, Chip Zdarsky, Shane Davis and Phil Jimenez. The Phil Jimenez variant cover is an Amazing Spider-Man #583 homage. A cover he actually did himself! Valiant Entertainments new team book Generation Zero is making some noise. Readers should definitely be on top of Generation Zero #2. This series will gain momentum as the issues come out, be on top of this one.
Eric Powell continues to destroy any hope in getting first prints of his new hit series; Hillbilly. It looks like Hillbilly #3 will sell out by the time you reach the end of this article. Actually, nope, sold out already. Best get your copy off the rack if you want one.

The John Watkiss cover from Surgeon X #1 will turn some heads on the new release wall. Then look for readers to love it because Sara Kenney will deliver a unique comic unlike anything else on the market. A possible sleeper hit, be sure to pull this one off the rack. The best part? No variants, just one cover!

Writers Marguerite Bennett/Cameron Deordio, along with artist Audrey Mok bring the new Archie Comics title Josie And The Pussycats #1. Archie’s new television series will bring the ratings and the fans (and new fans) along with it. We think the Archie series will do extremely well, so you better have those Archie comics in order. We put out an Archie Comics checklist back in January of 2015. You can click HERE to get an early start on your Archie collection. It’s an election year, so American Mythology publishing has your back. Check out Three Stooges Red White & Stooge #1, featuring a “Vote For…” cover for each stooge.

Another sleeper cell this week will be Sentient #1 (Hermes Press). Writer M. Zachary Sherman and artists Emmanuel Xerx/J. Brown on this one. More of the same here as with Surgeon X #1. A different type of story will bring interest from fans once word gets out. A sci-fi/thriller type story that’ll have you coming back.

Review – Shaft Imitation of Life #1

Shaft-Imitation-01-Cov-A-Clarke

Shaft Imitation of Life #1 – Click to Buy/Bid

Shaft: Imitation of Life #1
Published by Dynamite
Created by Ernest Tidyman
Written and lettered by David Walker
Illustrated by Dietrich Smith
Coloured by Alex Guimares
Cover art by Mathew clark and Vincius Andrade

(Click on the comic cover or red link to buy/bid from ALL available Ebay sellers)

“Who’s the black private dick
That’s a sex machine to all the chicks?
(Shaft!)
You’re damn right
Who is the man
That would risk his neck for his brother man?
(Shaft!)
Can ya dig it?
Who’s the cat that won’t cop out
When there’s danger all about
(Shaft!)
Right on
You see this cat Shaft is a bad mother
(Shut your mouth)…”
-Isaac Hayes-  Shaft

…But I’m talking ‘bout Shaft, The Comic; new on the shelves from Dynamite, and this book continues the legacy full throttle!  I have to admit I was a little Skeptical when I opened this one up. I missed David Walkers previous instalment of Shaft: A complicated man, so for me this had a lot to live up to, but the Creative team of David Walker (Army of Dr. Moreau, Shaft: a Complicated Man)  and Dietrich Smith (Battlestar Galactica: Death of Apollo) Knocked this title into the bleachers!

The artwork is clean and clear, Smith has a good foundation and a super crisp storytelling style, However, I would have liked to have seen him take a few more risks and add a bit more exaggeration and dynamism into the poses he chose, but you can see this guy is on his way up, and is definitely one to watch!  David Walkers’ narrative technique, is, well, sublime. I really loved the dual narrative he had going, with John Shaft’s “voice over” it was awesome to really get into the head of this “Complicated man” and see a side of the character that was only slightly implied in the films.  I loved how this story took Shaft into a place I never really expected to see him go, it explores some experimental ground, and has a really intriguing “save the cat moment”.  The pacing is smooth and very cinematic- it flowed so well I read it twice. And one interesting point to note, is that he also did the lettering, so his bubble placement added to the effect of this, my eyes danced right through it to the end. That being said, I’m used to seeing more explosive cliffhanger’s at the end, but this is the sort of comic that you keep thinking about after you put it down, and like any good mystery you’ll want to know what happens next.

Kevin Eastman of TMNT fame will co-write a new series coming out from Dynamite Entertainment; Cage Hero #1.

Also from Dynamite, James Bond fans will have something to celebrate besides the movie coming to a theater near you. A new comic; James Bond #1. The last variant count we have is up to 10, so plenty of pointless variants to choose from. We’d love to say to get your paws on the Jock variant, but we’re very unimpressed with the cover. Eye candy is nil.

Shane Davis’ Axcend #2, now that’s an impressive variant. And a cool comic too!

If you’re a person that follows the political landscape and you love demons, then Citizen Jack #1 (Image) is for you. Check out this crazy off-beat comic from writer Sam Humphries and artist Tommy Patterson.

There are a few reasons why to love Monstress #1 from Image Comics. First and foremost, it’s written by the talented Marjorie Liu. Second, it’s drawn by X-23 artist Sana Takeda. Third, it’s a new ongoing series, and fourth, it contains 66 (yes 66) pages of comic story with no interruptions. All for a $4.99 price point. There are currently none of these comics available on Ebay right now.

Paper Girls #2 will follow up Brian K Vaughan’s hit debut issue.

A gorgeous variant cover from Gabriele Dell Otto this week; Amazing Spider-Man (Vol 4) #3. Onward to volume five starring Deadpool in Deadpool (Vol 5) #1. Another relaunch within the new Marvel Universe. It is Deadpool though, so expect early price gauging on some of the variants, then back to reality. Lots of variants to choose from here.

Fans of the WWE will recognize the writer’s name in Drax #1. None other than CM Punk. He’s already done some work over at DC Comics (which we’ve covered), but this is the first time he’s doing creative work for Marvel Comics. The Ed McGuinness UFC cage variant would be a nice comic to get signed/graded if you’re a CM Punk fan. Thing is about the UFC gig, Punk announced he would be headed towards the UFC for some real deal fighting a long time ago (earlier this year?). Everyone is still waiting. That all said, a Drax solo comic should be a fun deal.

A new Hercules (Vol 4) #1 from Marvel arrives this Wednesday. The best of all volumes in the Marvel Universe came in 1982’s Hercules #1. The entire comic practically, creatively, was done by the awesome Bob Layton. It was a great four issue mini-series. In 2015, writer Dan Abnett and artist Luke Ross take a crack at it.

The biggest comic in all the land this week will be……brace yourself…..ready…..Howard The Duck (Vol 5) #1. I cannot believe I just typed that! And no we’re not drinking the Kool-Aid that some others may serve up. The mention of this comics has nothing to do pertaining to the character in this title. Simply because the latest craze in all the land; Gwenpool. And yes InvestComics gave speculators a heads up on her first appearance. (we’re awesome like that). Gwenpool will grace a variant cover and guess what? It’s sold out already! No surprise there. So the question here is not whether this will be a Scooby Doo #12 (which InvestComics did not talk about. Completed listings not sold on Ebay recently at $16.95/$14.95/$6.00) or a comic to buy and sell for a possible nice sum of money to buy a couple of weeks worth of your pull list. The answer is the latter. And here’s something for anyone really pushing the Howard The Duck character too. If you visit InvestComics on a regular basis, you will remember the Howard The Duck speculator clinic we put forth in March of this year. Remember, InvestComics is always in a business oriented mindset first and foremost when speaking about money for the speculator. We are looking out for your best interest. No fanboy stuff here, go elsewhere for that. So we are going to copy and paste the idea we put forth of why we think Howard The Duck will not come to fruition anytime soon on television or the movies.

..…..The Howard book will be a fun read though, so get it for at least that reason! Both are cool. So don’t get all hurt that I’m not that high on the Howard book. Speculation = opinion. Not that owning the Fear #19 (1976) book (first appearance of Howard the Duck) is a bad thing, but if you’re in the market to buy a good first appearance for $250 or $500 dollars, there are other books to seriously consider. Ask yourself this. Would Disney really want to jeopardize/replace the lure of Donald Duck with a wise cracking, cigar smoking duck? I highly doubt they want to throw Howard in our faces as the duck to really remember and constantly have questions from children to adults saying, “Is that Donald Duck?”. Um no. Disney would not want this. Why do you think there is no real talk about a cartoon or a movie pertaining to Howard? For this reason. Too close to Donald. Maybe someday Disney will bite the bullet and release a Howard cartoon or movie, but as for right now it’s not happening. Maybe a Howard the Duck comic book is a feeler to see what sort of attention it gets? Then maybe we’ll get some real news of something? This speculator doesn’t think we’ll see anything for some time. The Donald lure is way more important to Disney right now than destroying the very fabric of Disneyland or anything pertaining to Donald with people constantly mistaking Donald for Howard. Bycomparison, will we ever see a nasty mouse character created within the Marvel U that looks very similar to the Big Mouse with an attitude and possible cigar? The short answer is no. Howard will stay where he is right now and Disney is very content with that.

So there you have it. Lets recap shall we? Buy the Howard/Gwenpool variant this Wednesday, think about spending your $250-$500 elsewhere instead of his first appearance. Simple enough.

It’s just a matter of time before we see Nova appear in a movie or get his own thing going right? The Nova comics have always been entertaining, Nova (Vol 6) #1 will not disappoint.

A new Star Wars comic; Star Wars #11. An awesome Stuart Immonen cover here. We turned the comic horizontally so fans can really see it in its full glory. As always, any and all Star Wars comics; always a buy here at InvestComics.
A lot of creators from the comic industry contribute to Uncanny X-Men #600. Comic fans will want to thumb through this to see if their favorite creator contributed.
The new Vision (Vol 2) #1 looks very interesting. A definite pick up. A possible sleeper here. Take a look at that Ryan Sook variant as well, sweet.

451 Media Group seem to have a new hot book almost every week now. ExMortis #1 is sold out. Would you believe us if we told you that there will be a Santa Claus Year One type comic coming this week? How about if we told you that Grant Morrison will write it? Okay so this is Boom Studios’ premise to their new Klaus #1 comic. All set to a viking theme of course. Sounds like a lot of fun!

Others to check out; Hangman #1 (Dark Circle). Exodus Life After #1 (Oni Press). And just in time for Halloween, a story (sold out) from Space Goat Productions; Forty Coffins #1. Johnny Red #1 (Titans Comics) Garth Ennis writes. Another possible sleeper this week to watch out for; Niobe She Is Life #1 from Stranger Comics.

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 6/11/14

45523_20060706171832_large 60519_20061024153042_largeThere are a total of thirteen plus number one comics to touch on this week. Out of the thirteen, only two are emerging as victors in the sold out department. Check out Red City (2014) #1 and Wildfire (2014 Image) #1. Both from…..you guessed it, Image Comics. So without question, these comics are on the must list for the speculator this week. Avatar Press’ Dicks End of Time #1 is on the verge of a sell out too. The crazy variant looks like it will go first before the regular cover.

Other number one issues to not sleep on; Image Comics’ That’s Because You’re a Robot (2014) #1. This comic looks like a fun interesting ride. The number one selling mobile app ever gets its own comic book; Angry Birds Comics (2014) #1. Will the status of being the app champion equate to dominate within the comic book genre? This investor doesn’t see it, but I have been wrong before and stranger things have happened.

The new Amazing Spider-Man (2014 3rd Series) #1.2 will focus on a new character named Clash.

Valiant’s first ever huge crossover event will officially begin in Armor Hunters (2014 Valiant) #1. With top notch creators Doug Braithwaite and Robert Venditti at the helm, look for a fantastic story with awesome artwork and some sell outs along the way.

89332_20070411185021_large 1867184A dark new epic comic comes from Dynamite this week; Blood Queen (2014 Dynamite) #1. This number one issue is showing some nice sales thus far. The Ale Garza variant is a nice one too. Check it out in the gallery here.

The Godzilla movie has created a buzz. The craze seems to have spilled over to the comic book lure a bit. IDW showing some very strong sales on Godzilla The IDW Era (2014 IDW) #1. Look for a possible second print on that one shortly.

DC Comics releases Infinity Man and the Forever People (2014) #1 this Wednesday. A good story line and some good character development may push this series to a heighten interest. Infinity Man and the Forever People first appeared courtesy of the legend himself Jack “King” Kirby in Forever People #1 (1971). Although one member of Forever People did first appear in the 1988 Forever People #1, that being Maya. Always a wise decision to get first appearances from the legend Jack “King” Kirby. Nuff said.

ScreenHunter_374 Jun. 06 21.35 ScreenHunter_374 Jun. 06 21.33A few weeks ago InvestComics alerted all speculators that IF, that’s IF the hand to hand combat comics were to take off that Shang-Chi would be a good place to start hoarding. This Wednesday in Deadly Hands of Kung Fu (2014) #2 The Daughters of The Dragon make an appearance. Probably no big deal, but their first appearance however is. Check out The Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #32 from 1977. In there you will find a short story introducing “The Daughters” written by Chris Claremont. How cool is that? The guidelines that applied to Jack Kirby earlier applies here too.

While we’re on topic talking about first appearances, check out X (2013 Dark Horse) #14. Not only does InvestComics endorse this comic as a comic to keep an eye on, but the new issue will bring a “game changing” villain to the fray. Keep the X close to the vest. It may breakout one day. I went on extensively about the potential of X back in April 2013 (InvestComics Hot Picks #264) and in May of 2013 (InvestComics Hot Picks #268). Click either one of the red links to check it out. Very high on the character back then, still am.

1880891Rounding out the week; Empty Man (2014) #1. Mr. “Sixth Gun” himself Cullen Bunn brings this new series to Boom Studios. Disney character gets its own series; Figment (2014) #1. Bravest Warriors Impossibear Special (2014) #1 from Boom Studios looks like a fun time.

Invest wisely. Carpe Diem.

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 3/19/14

For the second straight week we have another extremely slow week for the speculators. This should not be a bad thing; this is actually a very good thing. With the lull in the spec market this week, one should be hitting those back issue bins or scouring the internet for that back issue they have been putting off.

A quick variant cover lesson coming up…….

Let’s get this out of the way. Marvel’s version of their New 52 seems very forced and makes absolutely no sense. While we all have to understand that Marvel Comics is in fact a company and they have to make money to stay in business; hence their relaunch of many titles, there is a certain feel to hearing the words in the New Daredevil (2014 4th Series) #1 solict that reads “BECAUSE YOU DEMANDED IT!”. “I” didn’t demand it. Do you know anyone that demanded a restart on the Daredevil title?? I didn’t think so. This is the first part of these relaunch titles that seem to be so forced. The second is the variant craze.

[scrollGallery id=340]

If you have friends that are “speculators” and buy most of the variants, I’m challenging all of the specs that read this column and are followers of InvestComics to tell them to stop buying the variant covers thinking they will make money on them. The majority of them they won’t. It’s the speculator with the 90’s mentality ruining it for everyone else. Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, Dynamite, IDW, etc. have all recognized the fanboy wannabe speculator and are sucking them dry of their money and in turn are making it worse for the real spec to sell their variant. Now granted, there are some seriously nice variant covers that fans want for their collection, but know the difference here. Collection vs. market.

Some readers right now may be asking the question; “Well how do you know that these companies know about these fanboy wannabe specs?”  How about Superman Unchained (2013 DC) #6 this week? This comic is a perfect case in point to the aforementioned. Superman Unchained #SIX, not number 1, not number 50, 100, 500, 1000, no a number SIX comes with ELEVEN variants. Absurd. DC Comics labels the variant “75th anniversary” to lure the uninformed. They know by publishing all of these variants that many “collectors” will get them all thinking they will be worth money 20 years from now when in fact many of the variants will be worth cover price. The variants worth the time of day are the variants that no one expects to be worth the monies they get. The true speculator learns (through here mostly!) that they need to strike at certain points to maximize their payday. The second thing to know is that your variant has to be graded; signature series is even more preferred.

Know how to work the variant market, teach the speculator that buys them all that it will be better for all of us if they’d refrain from doing that. Maybe just maybe we’ll get back to the 2 variant cover deals (maybe even 3) from these companies and the market won’t be so inundated with 11 variant covers to a Superman Unchained #6 comic.

Iron Man (2012 5th Series) #23 will be introducing its own infinity gems into the Iron Man lure. The epic storyline is called ‘Rings of The Mandarins’. Check out that cover from Mike Del Mundo, very nice. One thing worth noting too about this issue, remember how for weeks I kept talking about how Marvel/Disney is probably testing the market on the Marvel UK characters? Well guess what, a “classic Marvel UK character” will be making an appearance in this issue in a “reintented form”. So about that testing the market stuff…….

A few number one comics coming this Wednesday; Sovereign (2014 Image) #1 will be sold out by Friday, Anne Bonnie (2014 Blue Juice) #1 looks very interesting and did you catch their Accelerators title? Good stuff. Fans of the mega talented rock group Rush will have much to look forward to this week. Rush Clockwork Angels (2014 Boom) #1; The comic book is based on their music and is co-written by drummer and lyricist Neil Peart. Yes my friend Mandi is in heaven! She is the ultimate Rush fan and Rush fans will be out in droves to get this comic. And rounding out this week is Witcher (2014 Dark Horse) #1.

Invest wisely. Carpe Diem.

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 2/5/14

30474_20120422194521_largeIt’s Superbowl Sunday 2014. The NFL’s first appearance in a big market company came in 1991’s NFL SuperPro #1 from Marvel Comics. Creators attached were Nicieza, Delbo, DeCarlo, Frenz, Sinnott, and Legend John Romita Sr. Nice line up right? And a Spidey appearance! Too bad the comic is pediatrics office material. If anything, it was a fun comic!

One particular comic really has our attention this week. No it’s definitely not Ms. Marvel #1, more on her in a bit. But the comic that has our ears peered up is Marvel Knights Spider-Man (2013) #5. Not only does this issue possess a very cool cover from Marco Rudy, but a history making comic here folks! Well that’s according to Marvel, so we’ll take this with a grain of salt. Curiosity does have the best of us here though. The issue promises “….the craziest two page spread in comic book history!” Yes, you read that right. Now Marvel must deliver. What do you think? Will they? Take it off the shelf and take a looksee.

DC will be milking the recent success of Jokers Daughter with the release of Batman Joker’s Daughter (2014) #1. The character still remains a mysterious one as does the speculation market. As DC rams the character down our throats, look for pricing across the board to level off……a lot. Simply put, too much of a good thing is never good. Holding back a bit on the Jokers Daughter would help the speculative market immensely. Giving a steady diet is what the doctor should order here, but we know that’s not going to happen. DC will beat this character to death to the point no one will care about her. A perfect example of this would be the Lobo character back in the day. Of course it’s happened countless times since then, but Lobo was so hot at one time and then just sort of faded away because of the overkill. Deadpool comes to mind too. Marvel released a new number one issue last week with “Deadpool” in the title and retailers are probably trying to figure out a way to give them away at this point. Too much of a good thing is not always good.

[scrollGallery id=333]

Case in point with Punisher (2014 10th Series) #1 and Ms. Marvel (2014 3rd Series) #1. Punisher was in that same boat at one time, appearing in every single comic imaginable. Frank Castle even teamed up with Archie at one point. Although his first appearance in Amazing Spider-Man #129 (1974) is a steady book, it’s become a “slow” steady book. Still a good investment, but you’ll have to wait a while for any sort of real return on that comic. A good hold book these days.

You know what Carol, Sharon, Karla, Deidre, and Kamala all have in common? They were all Ms. Marvel’s at one time. Now with Marvel’s latest Ms. Marvel #1 they are doing what any normal business model would do and that’s a money grab. Nothing wrong with making money right? But when it comes at the expense of selling an ethnicity, it’s a bit disappointing. Marvel did the same exact thing with Miles, an African American Spider-Man. Marvel can spin it anyway they’d like, but they got what they wanted and that’s major press on that announcement.  The same holds for the press they received on the new Ms. Marvel. Yes she’s Muslim. She’s the first Muslim Super-Hero ever in the Marvel Universe. Why must we go down this road again exactly? Money, yes that’s right. All this being said, Captain Marvel #14 (2013), the first appearance of Kamala Khan and the Ms. Marvel #1 issue will reward nicely in the aftermarket because of the ridiculous hyperbole surrounding it. Do not, I repeat, do not think holding onto this comic will bring bigger fortunes down the road. It will not. Marvel will realize after a 12 issue run or so, with slumping sales, they’ll cancel the series and Ms. Marvel, no matter what race will go back to being that third rate character……in turn leaving you with a bunch of worthless comics.

Let me clarify one thing though. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a having an African American or Muslim super-hero. Why not just do it without the fanfare? Exploiting a superheroes ethnicity, sexuality (gay), and or any other human element for a mere profit instead of awareness is not educational but a lack of judgment of making these superheroes to be “different” and not within the fabric of society as everyday people, but outsiders. I like to think we’re better than this.

Marvel throws another Wolverine #1 (relaunch) at us. Number 5 for those keeping score at home. Wolverine (2014 5th Series) #1 will be as big a bore as it’s expected to be. He’s holding a gun on the cover. Wow. Loki brings the same sentiments here with Loki Agent Of Asgard (2014) #1. This cover is a huge bore, sorry Jenny Frison, but you’ve done much better.

In X-Men (2013) 3rd Series #10 we will see the recruitment of two female characters, Typhoid Mary and the Enchantress. Typhoid Mary’s first appearance in Daredevil #254 (1988) was a hot commodity at one time. Nowadays you can probably find this comic in the 50 cent long boxes. Still a very cool book to own if you don’t already. Journey Into Mystery #103 features the first appearance of the Enchantress. Jack “King” Kirby is all over this comic. A must own.

Captain America (2012 7th Series) #16 will focus on Jet Black once again. Her first appearance happened way way back in Captain America #1 of this series.

Superior Carnage gets his own annual this week; Superior Carnage (2013) Annual #1. Looks like a great read, check it out.

Ghost Solider will be making their presence known again in Action Comics (2011 2nd Series) #28 this week. Check out the first appearance a couple of issue prior in #26.

Green Lantern (2011 4th Series) #28 will be one of those cool flip issues, with Red Lanterns #28. All that with a $2.99 price tag.

One of the best buys this week has to go out to Turok Dinosaur Hunter (2014 Dynamite) #1. Definitely get one of the higher end variants to flip. As always a CGC signature series (9.8 or higher) will fetch the most bucks. Look for a sellout on this book and a spike in the Valiant series from 1993. And no you’re not seeing double, the Dynamite cover pays homage to the Valiant series. At least we hope Dynamite relates that someplace, otherwise it’s a ripoff.

If you’re looking for a bunch of first appearances in one comic this week, check out Sonic Universe (2009) #60. And also check out the new comic from Image Comics Apocalypse Al (2014) #1. Writer J. Michael Straczynski on this one, a sure sellout, and you better get your hands on this one.

Invest wisely. Carpe Diem.

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 12/11/13

Just a couple of weeks ago, InvestComics were making a statement on how important the Marvel Cosmic Universe will be in a very short while. Actually, InvestComics was reiterating what we have been saying for 7 years now. The particular comic and character we were speaking of was Nova. This week Nova comes into the fold once again. Nova (2013 5th Series) #11 promises to give readers of the Cosmic likeness a very very big surprise in this issue. Not sure what it is, even if I did know, I wouldn’t spoil it. The Marvel Cosmic Universe will have the Marvel U feel the effects, so buckle in tight fans. This is the beginning of what InvestComics has warned you about for years. The Marvel Cosmic Universe is about to take center stage. You best be on top of your Cosmic game.

[scrollGallery id=323]

Uncanny X-Men (2013 3rd Series) #15 will be an Inhumanity tie in with a “new comer” on board. The name is Kris Anka. One of the earliest works of this fine artist can be found in the Image graphic novel PopGun (2007). His earliest comic work came in Guarding the Globe #6 (Image Comics 2011).

Staying on topic with new creators in new places, check out Marvel Knights Hulk (2013) #1 with writer Joe Keatinge and artist Piotr Kowalski. If you are in the market for first works of newer creators, InvestComics can help you out with this one. Joe Keatinge’s first professional work as a colorists came in Masters of the Universe #4 (MVCreations 2004). His first writing duties came in Image Comics’ Ant #8 (2006). As for artist Piotr Kowalski; his first creative output came in his native country Poland in a book by the name Wiat Komiksu #4 (Egmont Polska 1998). His first American stint came in 2011 with Boom Studios’ Malignant Man #1 (2011). So not only do you get a great read with MKH #1 this week, but you get the inside scoop with the creators too from InvestComics. Mighty Avengers (2013) #4 Inhumanity tie in brings readers the New Ronin. The original Ronin first appeared in New Avengers #11 (2005) with that beauty of a David Finch cover. Huntress will be trailing a new villain in Worlds Finest (2012 3rd Series) #18. Check out who that will be. Looks like Owlman has some plans for Ultraman this week in Justice League (2011) #25. In the “in case you missed it department”, Justice League of America #29 (1964) gives us the first ever Ultraman. Doc Savage will get another crack at his own book this week in Doc Savage (2013 Dynamite) #1. The Doc may be appearing on the big screen as rumors do swirl all the time. Will it ever happen? If it does, look for a quick bump and then a quick flat line in his first appearance; Doc Savage magazine #1 (1933).

Comedy break; Two very funny solicits hit this week that have to make the reader/collector smile. First there was Superman Wonder Woman (2013) #3. The verbiage here reads “the ending of this comic is so shocking that it could mean the end of Superman and Wonder Woman together.” Really??! Kim Kardashian’s marriage to Kris Humphries may trump these two? We’re only three issues in DC please don’t threaten us with this already. Stop it, please. Too funny. Then you have Wolverine (2013 4th Series) #12. The verbiage reads like this “…the storyline the will change Wolverine as we know him forever!” Really??! Okay.

Now that we had our laugh, let’s get back to some other comics to check out this week. Three must get number one comics this week are sold out and will definitely see second prints following shortly. Krampus (2013 Image) #1, Lunita (2013 Amigo) #1, and Dead Body Road (2013 Image) #1. And for anyone keeping score here, Dead Body Road #1 will be written by Justin Jordan of the highly successful Luther Strode comic. A bit of a surprise with the almost sold out (will be probably by Friday/Saturday) Legends Dark Knight 100 Page Super Spectacular (2013) #1 this week. The reason for the surprise is the $9.99 price tag that accompanies the 100 page of goodness here. Fans are excited about the 100 pager for only $9.99 I guess. Way to go DC! Batman Black and White (2013) #4 brings in some fantastic talent once again. A must get every time it comes out. The future is now with Justice League 3000 (2013) #1. For no other reason than the super talents of Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis on this book, it’s a must check out comic. Uttering the words “new hero” or “new villain” is music to InvestComics’ ears. Check out Cataclysm Ultimate Spider-Man (2013) #2 for the sweet sounds of a new hero. Origin issues are fun too. Check out Astro City (2013 3rd Series) #7 for the origin of Winged Victory.

Here’s a quick list of sold out or about to be sold out number 1 and number 2 comics from this upcoming week (Special thanks to Terry Hoknes for drawing this list up every week!!): Steampunk Cinderella (2013) #1, Code Red (2013 Zenescope) #1, Protectors Inc (2013 Image) #2, Day Men (2013 Boom) #2, Indestructible (2013 IDW) #1, Drumhellar (2013 Image) #2, Halo Escalation (2013) #1, Sherlock Holmes Moriarty Lives (2013 Dynamite) #1, Grimm The Warlock (2013) #1, and Brain Boy (2013 Dark Horse) #0.

That’s it, see you next week. Remember the contest! Let’s get InvestComics to 3000!

Welcome to the InvestComics Hot Picks

indexMarvel_Feature_1_(1971)Before heading right into this week’s InvestComics Hot Picks, there are a few comics that have been highlighted over the past week or so on InvestComics that need some love. Well not love so much, but some undivided attention. I’d like to point them out in this article so that speculators can plan accordingly during a slower week like this one.

News from director Zack Synder confirmed that Nightwing (aka Dick Grayson) will in fact appear in the new Superman sequel yet unofficially titled Batman vs. Superman. Great news for the comic book fans, but not so much on the collectors/speculators side. How so you may ask? Well, Dick Grayson becomes Nightwing in Tales of the Teen Titans #44 (1984) and the problem with this classic comic is the one thing no hobby enthusiasts likes to hear……overprint. This comic is so easily accessible it’s not even funny. While the overprint shouldn’t deter you to still own this comic (how do you not own it already??), do realize that the aftermarket will be inundated with the first appearance of Nightwing as it already is. Great comic, too bad there are too many copies are floating around. There is however a way to get a little more bang for your buck, but you should know how to do this already…..

InvestComics reported on Marvel teaming up with Netflix for their next venture onto the small screen. It involves Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage getting television shows and all leading up to a “Defenders” mini-series. How lucky can a comic book fan be these days?! A comic that must be in your collection and is a beauty is the first appearance of the Defenders team in Marvel Feature #1 (1971). There is nothing more to say……..buy this comic book!

With the recent success of the Arrow television show for the folks over at the CW station, they are once again looking at the DC catalog and have found iZombie. Zombies are hot for reasons that are obvious, but will it equate to the demise, the watering down of the genre? We’ll have izombiePreacher_1to wait and see. Until then, you already missed out by digging in the $1 bins at your local shop for the first DC/Vertigo iZombie #1 (2010) when InvestComics broke the news, so now the question is how much of a risk are you willing to take on this comic? You have two options here. Go for the first appearance of iZombie in House of Mystery Halloween Annual #1 (2009) which has sold for more than $50 on Ebay or the iZombie #1 comic that has sold for as high as $25. Big risk here because this series is no Walking Dead and the zombie genre will eventually settle down some. What if the television series craps out? Too many risk factors with this one here.

And possibly the best news to come out from television land came late last night on InvestComics. The once very hot Preacher series from DC/Vertigo will be considered for a pilot from AMC. A Preacher #1 (1995) CGC 9.8 sold yesterday on Ebay for $185. If you have this comic, I urge you to get it graded and sit on it. It’s going to be a big book. The comic series was a rousing success and there is no reason to think that the (possible) television series wouldn’t be either. Writer Garth Ennis brings his “A” game to everything he’s involved with. The highly successful Preacher series is evidence of this. IF the Preacher gets its own TV show, Preacher #1 will be a comic to own, big time.

In the “In case you missed it department”

In association with Ratchet City Comics, InvestComics will be celebrating the InvestComics Hot Picks #300 in a BIG way! The 300th InvestComics Hot Picks will be coming out the same week as Christmas, so on December 25th, Christmas day, we will be giving away a Star Wars #1 (2013 – Dark Horse) CGC Signature Series graded 9.6 Signed by writer Brian Wood!! The comic is pictured here and can be yours if you share the InvestComics web page everyplace you can to help us reach 3000 Likes on the Facebook page. FULL details right HERE!! Share!!

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 11/30/13

[scrollGallery id=320]

Believe it or not A Plus X (2012 Marvel Now) #14 will lead the way this week. It’s with good reason of course. The issue finds Max Bemis conducting writing duties. Why and who is Max? Well he’s a comic book fan and is also the front man in a rock band called Say Anything. He’s also the co-singer in a band called Two Tongues. I have to admit, I have absolutely no idea who the bands are or who Max is, but the kids tell me they know him and them! So why exactly are we talking about this comic again? Oh yeah, this is Max’s first published comic book work. The last time a rock dude crossed over, all hell broke loose for a little bit. Let me remind you……Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance)? Umbrella Academy? Oh yes that! You remember now. So check out A + X #14 and see if Max pulls off a keeper here.

Harley Quinn begins her quest this week in her own regular series; starting with Harley Quinn (2013) #0. We all know by now that Harley first appeared in the Batman: Harley Quinn (1999) soft cover graphic novel. That classic Alex Ross cover is forever etched in our minds. So that comic is probably already filed away in your Bat box someplace. This week however, the Harley Quinn #0 Stephane Roux variant cover is sold out. Buying this comic will set you back $30, but how long can Harley really hold her own though? Maybe we’ll get an answer to that question sooner rather than later.

Battlestar Galactica always seems to be that red-headed step child doesn’t it? (No offense to red-heads! My sister is a red-head!). It’s always been that show that just can’t seem to get out of its own way. The first television series back in 1978 lasted two seasons, the second series lasted a whopping 4 seasons, and the original Marvel Comics series lasted 23 issues. No major motion picture, no talks of ever taking Battlestar to another level. Very odd no? Well maybe not. Maybe it’s just not a strong franchise. Yes, maybe it’s time to accept that Battlestar is not Star Trek, Star Wars, or even Stargate; Space 1999 maybe, but not any of the aforementioned. The intention here is not to bash Battlestar, but to find an understanding as to why so many failed attempts at a space series that has such a huge following. Dynamite hasn’t given up on BG though! This week Battlestar Galactica Starbuck (2013 Dynamite) #1 is on the cusp of a sell-out. That’s right fans, there is still a core audience that demands BG and Dynamite is here to provide it! Looks like a fun read!

Forever Evil Rogues Rebellion (2013) #2 variant is sold out. It’s only a $10 variant and it’ll probably stay put right there. There is nothing special about this comic at all except an exceptionally weak villain in Parasite wreaking havoc. A fun story, but nothing for the speculator here.

Although Superior Spider-Man (2012) Annual #1 might be sold out by the next new comic book day, it still has that “Annual” stigma attached to it. The Marvel solict  says “this one counts!” Even they realize the stigma attached. It’s far and few between that any comic book annuals make an impact on the hobby. They do exist, but not on a level of any expectations that collectors clamor for. In the Superior Spider-Man annual #1 though, we see the return of Blackout. The Blackout villain first appeared in Nova #19 (1978). Will the debut of Blackout be a draw? Most likely no, but the Nova character on the other hand………buy Nova. Yes, buy Nova.

X-Men (2013) 3rd Series #7 brings back an old foe. Lady Deathstrike from Daredevil #197 (1983). That’s a nice book to have. Not a be all end all, but an okay book.

If you have children then you know about Ben 10. You know that Ben 10 is on your television set when you are getting the kids ready for school. Yes I get the explanation every morning on which alien Ben has turned into and what he can do. Fun times! IDW wants my boy to read comics too, which is a great thing. Check out Ben 10 (2013 IDW) #1 this week for your kids. Get them reading! DC Comics were the first to jump into the Ben 10 craze and now IDW is doing the same. Good times!

A few weeks back InvestComics asked that you’d get a beat on the Afterlife with Archie #1 comic. Boy did we hit that one! This week the initial offering of Afterlife With Archie (2013) #2 will be a bit different. It seems as though the zombiefied Archie interest has died down a tad quickly, but do not let this deter you from getting the second issue. There is still might be “life” in this zombie Archie.

If there is THE number one comic to get this week, it has to be Voice in the Dark (2013 Image) #1. Check out why our girl Zoey hasn’t killed anyone in about 72 days. She’s a radio DJ too. Not much to go on right? Well it’s an Image Comic, they release great stories AND it’s sold out already.

Cataclysm Ultimates (2013) #1 $20 variant is sold out. Star Wars Dawn of the Jedi Force War (2013) #1 will be one to check out and one more for the kids Scooby-Doo Team Up (2013 DC) #1!

Don’t forget, help us get to 3000 and you could win!!

InvestComics Comic Hot Picks 12-14-11

Welcome to InvestComics Comic Hot Picks 12-14-11

The holiday’s arrive a little early for the fans of InvestComics. Tomorrow we will post an Interview with a legendary writer. InvestComics’ David Paul (JOSEPH!) sits down with…….well you’ll have to come back tomorrow to find out, not ruining the surprise! If you’re a fan of the IC Facebook & Twitter accounts, you’ll be alerted when it first post, otherwise check back.

DC Comics’ The Ray will be coming back in a limited series. Even if one wasn’t looking for a new Ray comic, DC grabbed creators Justin Gray, Jimmy Palmiotti, and Jamal Igle. This is a team that commands ones attention. The series will focus on a new Ray, but here at InvestComics you have to know your past to know the future. With that, Happy Terrill as the first Ray appeared in 1940’s Smash Comics #14. That’ll hit the wallet in $4400 range. The other Ray; Ray Terrill was introduced in 1992 by none other than Joe Quesada. The Ray #1 can easily be found in the dollar boxes at your local shop. But as for the new series, with those creative minds at the helm it’s sure to be a hit.

Sticking with the comeback theme, Carnage is back. Carnage U.S.A. #1 (what’s with this title?) presented by writer Zeb Wells and Art by Clayton Crain. Carnage was one of those villains back in the 90’s that became so loved, but so overused. The first appearance went for some big bucks back when the bubble was about to burst. Today however, things have obliviously leveled off a bit. Cletus Kasady a.k.a. Carnage first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #344 (1991 – $8). Cletus as the villain Carnage came 17 issues later in Amazing Spider-Man #361 (1992). Expect to pay close to $18 for this comic in near mint condition. Zeb and Clayton really look like they bring it in the previews; let’s hope they sustain that over duration.

Marvel’s status quo will change once again in 2012. Seems like the same mundane solicits after a while, but we all hold hope that we will read something that will truly and forever change something, and have some significant meaning behind it. With the arrival of Avengers: X-Sanction #1 and its ridiculous 7 different covers, one can anticipate THIS will be the prologue that will lead into that moment next year where we have that holy s*it moment. One can hope……….

Dynamite follows suit with a ridiculous amount of variants, 5 in all with Lord of the Jungle #1. With that aside, one of Tarzan’s earliest appearances in comic book form came in Dell’s 1948 Tarzan #1. This 1948 book is only $2000? Seems a bit unvalued, no?

The Independent circuit is very busy this week on InvestComics. Here are a few Indie’s to check out.

Irredeemable #1 (Artist Edition), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Micro Series #2 Michelangelo, The Strain #1, Nowhere Man #1,  Airboy Presents Air Vixens #1, and from our friends at AAM-Markosia Dead Man #01.

Oh yes one more book to definitely check out this Wednesday, Star Wars Agent of the Empire #1. (Hint about tomorrow’s guest!)

Covers of the week below.

InvestComics Comic Hot Picks 7-27-11

DC’s mega hot storyline Flashpoint continues as Marvel begins a new saga “Spider Island” this week in Amazing Spider-Man #666. It will not be anywhere near as popular as Flashpoint, but it does look like a fun premise.

There are quite a few Independent Comics to check out this week (again). Terry Moore’s Rachael Rising #1 leads the way. Joe Hill The Cape #1 from IDW, Moonstone’s Buckaroo Banzai #1, Big Dog Ink’s Critters #1, Action Lab brings Fracture #1, a team up with Terminator & Robocop from Dynamite, and Image Comics The Vault #1.

See you next week!  Invest Wisely. Enjoy the Covers of the week……

ARMOR X TPB COLLECTION, REMASTERED JUST THE WAY IT WAS ALWAYS MEANT TO BE!

Coming from Dynamite this August!

June 28, 2011 – Runnemede, NJ – Dynamite Entertainment is pleased to announce the release of Armor X, remastered with all new story, art, dialogue and color. Re-imagined the way it was always intended to be.  This classic creator-owned series collected for the first time, completely remastered with all-new story and art, written by Keith Champagne, art and new cover by Andy Smith, with a back cover by Bart Sears.

Carson Deeds is an emotionally troubled teen with a loaded shotgun beneath his bed and a list of classmates in his aim. When a suit of alien armor falls into Carson’s hands, he stumbles across the power to live out every revenge fantasy he’s ever dreamed. Or did the armor find him?

“Imagine you had been spit on your entire life. Family, peers…you’ve never been accepted by any of them,” says writer Keith Champagne. “And suddenly, you stumble across the power to live out every revenge fantasy you’ve ever dreamed.  To make matters worse, that power–in this case, a suit of alien technology–is actually urging you to use it for evil purposes. With great power comes great opportunity and suddenly, the entire world could literally belong to you.  In those circumstances, could you rise above yourself and become something better? What if you had to, because suddenly the lives of everyone you know are in danger when the suit’s owners come looking for it.”

“Keith and I have been friends for quite awhile, and we always wanted to work on a project together.  Now that we’ve done one, he felt comfortable allowing us to reprint his Armor X collection.  I was a fan of Armor X when it was first released,” says Dynamite President and Publisher Nick Barrucci.  “It is incredible that Keith considered Dynamite to publish Armor X the way it was always intended, and I can’t wait to show this comic to the world!”

Independent comics are ruling the land this week. A few weeks back InvestComics told you about a very cool book on the WHP from 11-24-10 called Cyclops #1 (Archaia). It was pushed back until this week, so nothing different here, pick it up! Untouchable – One Shot (Dynamite) looks like an interesting pick up from writer Mike Carey of Marvel’s X-Men. Red hot series Morning Glories (Image) reaches its fifth issue already. Pick up these early issue’s of Morning Glories, something special going on here. Mark Zuckerberg, creator of Facebook makes his debut into the comic book world, thanks to Blue Water comics. Also from Blue Water comics is Styx & Stone #1, check that one out as well.

The biggest Indie book this week goes to the much covered Archie #616. Many news outlets and other media have covered this comic well before its release this week. President Obama teams up with Sarah Palin in part 1 of Campaign Pair. That’s real sweet that they are sharing a shake from the same cup, wonder how the First Lady and Todd feel about this. Anyway, pick this collector’s item up, it just may be the first time that a former president, and a new president appear on the same cover at the same time.

InvestComics news and Hot Picks! A hint at 2 articles that will hit InvestComics next week and rock!! Click ahead now!

Last week Action Comics #1 became the very first million dollar comic. It was also last week that Detective Comics #27 was bidding around the $420,000 mark with a few days left to bid. So in the end, Batman proved to be a bigger draw than Superman as far as first appearances go selling OVER a million dollars. Congrats to the winners on their wins. Now only if Todd McFarlane could return that million dollar baseball…..Finally, check out who could be cast to play Captain America! I could care less at this point who they get. Every person Hollywood picks to play a part I used to say, nah Michael Keaton, Toby Maguire, Hugh Jackman, they won’t work. Apparently Hollywood knows a lot more than I do in this department so I have kept an open mind to any choice’s they have made as of late. Dying to see Cap, Thor Green Lantern, all of these are going to rock.

InvestComics newest IndieCreator article focused on “Working Title’s” Alex Rodrik of Comics Bulletin. A great article as always Bob! Coming up next week though, a HUGE article from Bob Heske’s IndieCreator with…..nah you’ll have to wait for this one. It’s going to be big!! I can tell you though that this creator has one of the hottest indie titles on the market today. His book will be coming out next week, so a little “food for thought.”
The hot new section on InvestComics 10 For The Pros came out with Tim Seeley. Tim is always an awesome interview and InvestComics looks forward to crossing paths with him again in the future. Another tease here, 10 For The Pros will have a big artist next week a creator that also has a very hot Indie title out right now. If you want any hints on this one go to the InvestComics Forum under the “Independent Comics” section.

Hot Picks 3-3-10

kevinsmithsgreenhornet1.gifdetectivecomics862.gifOkay so Kevin Smith was in the news this past week for all the wrong reasons. If you don’t know what it’s about, I’m not telling you because I could care less about it. What IS to care about is Kevin’s new Green Hornet #1 comic from Dynamite. Looks as though Dynamite will be going with 5 different covers for this one. If you want to make some cash, look for Alex Ross’ 1 in 200 copy variant to ultimatecomicsnewultimates1.gifwolverineweaponx11.gifcommand some nice money in the aftermarket when this book sells out. Get it graded for some serious cash back on your investment.
Detective Comics is hitting on all cylinders lately. Creators Rucka & Jock are introducing a new villain into the mix. His name is Cutter. Check out DC #862 for all the mayhem. Marvel is continuing to reintroduce us to the Ultimate universe. Check out Ultimate Comics: New Ultimates #1 from Frank Cho and Jeph Loeb. The Ultimate line looks to be making a strong comeback.
Wolverine: Weapon X #11 will probably
be the sleeper sell out of the week. “Tomorrow Dies Today” part 1 with none other than cult fan favorite Deathlok. Deathlok will be making his presence known astonishingtales25_1974.gifonce again in the Marvel universe so once AGAIN InvestComics directs you to the year 1974. Astonishing Tales #25 -1st appearance of Deathlok & First published work of Legend George Perez-. This comic is a very strong buy at $75. This comic today remains one of the most undervalued first appearances out there right now. If you do not have this comic, buy it. A very good investment here.

Have you seen The Batman on the side of your milk carton? Yea, he seems to be M.I.A. and just about every DC character cannot seem to wait to jump in his grave starting this week…

Batman: Battle for the Cowl #1  No body, no funeral, but the DC Universe seems to not mind making claims on their most beloved mentor. A battle royal ensues this week; the winner gets the right to call themselves The Batman. Check out this series and gauge where it might be headed. If it looks as though one of the usual suspects will become the new Batman, pass on this. If DC wants to really make things interesting they need to make someone you least expect take over the mantle, in which case you need to look at this comic as more of a keeper. If DC really really really wanted to make things interesting, we’d find Bruce Wayne’s dead body floating in that water, then introduce the new Batman. Hey we can all dream can’t we?

Action Comics #875  The Introduction of the new Flamebird and Nightwing happens here.

X-Men Noir #4  The hot series concludes this week.

xmenquittingtimeoneshot.gif

X-Men: Quitting Time (One Shot)  Nightcrawler is branching out and away from the X-Men. This one shot is suppose to have Nightcrawler walking away from the X-Men forever. If Marvel stays away from the religious aspect, the struggles with faith in which we have seen too many times already, this comic is a good one to keep an eye on.

superzombies1.gif

Super-Zombies # 1  Dynamite Entertainment releases a Zombie book. Dynamite says that this comic is poised to be the biggest book of 2009. Too much hype, overconfidence or maybe they could be right. Having writer Marc Guggenheim at the helm helps matters here.

Batman # 686  In case you might not have heard, but Batman is dead. Well that’s what DC wants everyone to believe; too bad Marvel released that Obama/Spidey book the same week Batman supposedly died. Not much play for Bruce taking the dirt nap (maybe it’s because we all know he’s coming back). Okay so DC dropped the ball (again) on this one, but they are back with a biggie. Anyone remember how big the Superman story written by Alan Moore called ‘Whatever happened to the man of tomorrow’ was? Yes it’s still one of the best Superman stories ever told. Now enter Batman. Alan Moore isn’t returning for this one, but Neil Gaiman is coming on board for the ‘Whatever happened to the cape crusader?’ 2 part story that promises to be a high-quality, well written, demandable comic book. Andy Kubert is on board to work his great illustrations into a comic that has mass appeal already. Kubert only helps the value of this comic. Do not miss this comic collectors, it’s going to be a sure fire hit with multiple printings to follow.

masquerade1johnromitasrvirgincover.gif

Masquerade # 1  Here’s a comic coming from Dynamite that has some potential. Good storytelling, good artwork and a virgin variant from John Romita Sr. The variant, if you could get it should be bought. A John Romita Sr. variant is a great treasure to have, a virgin variant is even better. Buy this one and hold on to it for a long time. Romita Sr. will be legend one day, or maybe he already is, whatever your opinion, hold onto that as well. It’s yours.

Thor # 600  Stan Lee returns to Marvel again for a special Thor story within these 104 pages of comic good heaven. Join the party! And look at that Dell’Otto variant cover, now that’s cool.
