Norman #3 – Each of the previous two comics sold out before this one. This one has sold out too! Titan Comics has a hit on their hands.

All-Star Batman #1 – We’re going to love reading this new Batman book. And we’re loving that Jock variant too!

Superwoman #1 – The very talented Phil Jimenez will write and draw this new Superwoman series. It’s going to be fantastic.

Deathstroke Rebirth #1 – Writer Christopher Priest starts things off with the Deathstroke Rebirth comic. This series will be a definite get each month. You must get this on your pull list.

Spider-Man Deadpool #8 – Marvel’s solicit says the same thing we’ve been saying since issue number one of this series. Buy it. Every issue sells out and we’ve told speculators this series is a no-brainer. Two of Disney’s biggest characters in their library. Put them together in a monthly team-up book and watch it fly off the shelf. And we predicted a while ago, you heard this HERE first….wait until they do a Spider-Man, Deapool, Spider-Gwen, Gwenpool team-up. Those variants will go for a heavy aftermarket premium.

Justice League #40

Click to Buy Now

Each week InvestComics seeks out a comic(s) on Ebay for $100 or less and then brings it to the attention of our fans. We call it IC 100 Club Pick. The idea is to get a great book at a great price. We do not own nor are we selling these comics. The comics are found by a random process. We do not know the ebay seller(s), nor are we promoting the Ebay seller. Any knowing from the Ebay seller of InvestComics or its affiliates is purely coincidental. (See disclaimer for more details).

IC 100 Club Pick: Justice League #40 (2015) 9.8. This modern comic is more about the new Justice League trailer and what the potential it could carry. The new trailer has Bruce Wayne building a team to defeat an evil like no one has ever seen. That evil, we hope, could be Darkseid. If Darkseid is the main villain (we hope), this comic possesses the first appearance of his daughter Grail (cameo). If the female presence continues to make their indelible mark within the comic book industry like they have never before, expect to possibly see Grail on the big screen. This comic will leave that $99.99 price tag long, long, long behind if Grail makes that leap to the big screen. A speculative move here indeed. You make the call.

Before reading ahead, we feel we need to warn you that our articles contain very harsh truths in them. Not vulgar language, just a good solid dose of honesty. They always have, they always will. If you are easily offended, cannot come to terms that other people have opinions too beside yourself and especially if you’re a fanboy, discontinue reading. We start off this week towards the speculative side of the hobby……
All-Star Batman #1 from DC Comics is one of those tough call speculator books. Not all all a question this comic will be a tremendous read (we hope anyway!). The book itself will bring sure-fire creative super power. Scott Snyder writes and John Romita Jr. will pencil. There will be other dynamic creators attached to this comic, but those two will get top billing. Scott Synder will be re-imagining Batman villains as we have never seen them before. That according to DC of course, don’t hold us to that. First up will be Two-Face. With all of the changes going on from DC from the past 10 years or so, will this be any different really? It’s a good possibility it will be “different”, but therein lay one of the issues as far as speculation goes. Just because something is different and touches off some fanboy nerve in a good way, it may drive the speculation market to max status. Here’s a question you must ask yourself, what happens once the romance wears off?
In recent memory one of the only books to sustain a monetary value and marketability with absolutely no redeeming comic book collector substance (first appearance, death, new character look, gender change character, etc) is Scott Synder/Greg Capullo Batman #1. We have stated this before in numerous articles, if you look at a graded copy, upper right hand corner, it’s completely blank. No first appearance, no appearances, no new costumes, nothing. That book still commands some decent aftermarket prices and it holds a fantastic beginning of a storybook run by two unbelievably talented creators, we get it (we think). Think about this. There have been some amazing Batman stories told over many, many decades by legends in the industry. Amazing runs of their own. Some of their books couldn’t even touch the Synder/Capullo Batman books as far as aftermarket pricing goes. Is that Batman #1 (Synder/Capullo) graded 9.8, which just sold for $300 a few days ago REALLY worth $300?? That’s $300, essential for a…..”Batman story”. Before you fanboys start whining and crying, we’re fans of Synder and Capullo, so stop getting your panties in a bunch. You’re going to learn here, don’t worry about when the next Scooby Doo/Harley Quinn team-up will happen. There are plenty of story driven comics throughout history that command some aftermarket monies. Miller’s Dark Knight and Gaiman’s Sandman, come to mind right away, but those stories were industry changing stories. We’re not saying Scott and Greg didn’t bring their Batman run to another level, but did they really change things in the long term? We’ll actually have to wait and see about this. Five years does not qualify a $300 book (in OUR opinion. Fanboys please sit down. Adults, please speak if you want). Neal Adams, Frank Miller, Alan Moore and a few others have literally changed the Batman landscape that still reverberates in today’s modern era. This market is modern top heavy, been that way for quite some time now. Be weary of what you are putting in to get out. Many have put too much into these modern books and are getting torched with red numbers. The Batman #1 book (and some others) have paid off, but more often than not, that “big/obvious” book winds up not meeting expectations for speculators. Wytches (Snyder + Jock = WOW) comes to mind rather quickly. So many more though.
Which brings us back to All-Star Batman #1 this Wednesday. The creative firepower is there and the amazing variants are there. The big questions; will the story be interesting enough to compel demand? Will interest wane after the first read? The second issue? Will this be all hype and no punch? Will delays in release happen? Will there be a large print run? How many times have we seen an all-star creative team assembled and it turns out to be just “okay” or “good” or even a flop. It’s when collectors aren’t counting on it, case in point Batman #1 (Synder/Capullo) that it becomes a huge hit. Yes we know, we know, sit down fanboys, they were fabulous creators when they were announced for that Batman book, but no one would have predicted a 9.8 for $300 in late July 2016. No one.
So going full circle here and back to the beginning, we are definitely without a doubt looking forward to the new All-Star Batman comic. More so as a comic book fan and not as a speculator. We could be completely wrong on this, we’ve been wrong before, we accept that. But we think this may be one of those creative all-star teams with a good story to tell and that’s it. Which, at the end of the day is the goal anyway. As for the REAL speculative side regarding All-Star Batman #1 this Wednesday, one word…….Jock.

With the influx of female comic characters dominating the industry these days, DC will go back to the well this week. Superwoman #1 will be written and drawn by the great Phil Jimenez. We’re so on board here. We expect the new series to do well and we urge collectors to check it out. Because we really like the potential of the new Superwoman book, you may want to click on the following comic to see what is available; DC Comics Presents Annual #2 (1983). This is the first appearance of Superwoman. Cover from legend Gil Kane and pencils by Keith Pollard.

The New Super-Man #1 fared well and now the follow up; New Super-Man #2. Be sure to check out the constant introduction of new characters during this series.
InvestComics had Deathstroke’s first appearance in the very first issue of the InvestComics magazine more than 11 years ago. Back when it was more obtainable. A 9.8 first appearance sold for a mere $550 a couple of weeks ago. Now this Wednesday, Deathstroke Rebirth #1 hits and we’re stoked. It won’t be a $550 book, probably ever, but the story will kick all kinds of as*. Writer Christopher Priest will deliver, get this on your pull list. The Stephen Platt variant cover is fantastic and it makes us reflect back to the early nineties when Stephen first tackled his first Marvel book; Moon Knight #55 (1993). That was a huge hot book back then. A 9.8 Moon Knight #55 just sold for $189 in early July. Definitely worth mentioning here too, the regular Aco Deathstroke Rebirth #1 cover is phenomenal as well, but InvestComics has always spoken about Stephen Platt thru-out the years. We’re huge fans.
Speaking of covers, a tremendous Rafael Albuquerque variant cover; Detective Comics #938. Rafael is making a habit of cutting right into the InvestComics Hot Picks almost every week with an amazing variant cover. Keep that up sir, we certainly do not mind.

A bevy of creators will have a hand in All New All Different Avengers Annual #1. See if your favorite creator(s) are in there. Nice Alex Ross linking covers too.
Accused #1 will feature a Daredevil Fiona Staples variant cover.
When InvestComics informed readers that the Spider-Man Deadpool #1 comic and series was going to be one to get and follow, we were kinda right. Well not kinda, we were. Spider-Man Deadpool #8 comes out with Marvel touting the same thing we have been saying, that every issue sells out and you need to be on top of this series. Spider-Man Deadpool #1 is headed to its seventh printing. The two biggest characters within Disney’s arsenal each month in their own team-up book, it’s a no-brainer here.

Here are some Indie comics and number one issues to definitely check out on Wednesday.

Want a dark and twisted retelling of the Peter Pan story? Sure you do! Check out 451 Media Group’s Nvrlnd #1.

We gave our readers an alert on Henchgirl (Scout Comics), which turned out to be a very nice aftermarket series. Now we have been telling readers about the Norman title from Titan Comics every month. Each of the previous two issues have sold out and Norman #3 has sold out before Wednesday’s new comic book day. The series has proven to be an interest to fans and you best be on it.
Sons Of Anarchy Redwood Original #1 (Boom Studios) has show creator Kurt Sutter on board to supervise the making of this comic series. He wants to protect his property and provide the best SOA book for his fans. We get it and that’s awesome.
Starring Sonya Devereaux #1 (American Mythology) features a Walking Dead #1 variant cover.
Blue Hour #1 (Action Lab Entertainment). Suicide Squad Most Wanted El Diablo & Boomerang #1 (DC Comics).

Hot Pick Of The Week – Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #1 – Click To Buy/Bid

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #1 – Here’s the first appearance of Moon Girl and an overall fun book to check out this week. A keeper here.

Dark Knight III – Huge expectations for DC and fans alike. Spoiler alert coming up in case you don’t know, so discontinue reading if need be……..Frank Miller said that Carrie Kelly will take the Batman mantle in this latest installment. Wow another gender change for a big character, how original.

Silk #1 – InvestComics has and will always be on team Silk. Originality within this character brings the cultural and gender into play making for a possible deeper character driven hero for years to come.

Henchgirl #2 – Scout Comics has done it again. A sold out number issue (short print run) and a sold out number two issue. Henchgirl is hitting a cord with fans.

Jacked #1 – Maybe Hollywood or a television studio will come-a-knockin’ with this story. Or maybe not, but a DC/Vertigo title written by Eric Kripke will be an interesting book.

Well we cannot avoid the elephant in the room this week, so lets get it out the way shall we? Dark Knight III. Yep Dark Knight III and it’s 48 variant covers at last count. Absurdity at its finest here. 48 covers, is this truly necessary? Of course it’s not, but money is important for business, so while not necessary, it’s business. Before moving on, we want to point out that what you’re about to read regarding all of the hype regarding DKIII you may have heard here before over the years, just some rehash, an observation, some added numbers…..

Here are some things to consider if you’re in the market for that rare rare crazy variant. The first and most obvious, well maybe not so obvious to the potential buyer, but if you spend a whole bunch of money on a “rare” DKIII variant, you just bought a comic book “cover” for say….$150. So now you have yourself a “nice” pretty cover with the SAME EXACT insides as probably 1 million other comic books. Absolutely NOTHING different within the confines of YOUR pretty expensive cover’s insides as opposed to the other million copies. So your options are one or two things after you make your $150+ purchase. Get it graded (9.8 or more) and quadruple your intake (poor sap buying that! Wow) or hold onto it thinking you’ll have a comic to send your children to college with, which will never happen. Here’s a wake-up call. First and foremost, Dark Knight III will probably be a great book, better than Dark Knight II, but NOT better than Dark Knight I. Let’s have a clear understanding of something here, if you are an avid collector you will not have to read ahead here, but this is for the newer collectors and the others that have been brainwashed by websites trying to over-hype 48+ covers. The Dark Knight Returns (1986) came out right before Watchmen #1 (1986). Whether you are a fan of either of these books or not, these were game changers. Fifty years from now, pop culture will refer back to 1986’s Dark Knight and Watchmen books. It will not refer back to 2015 Dark Knight III. It just won’t happen. So lets do a quick reminder before the hate mail, Dark Knight III will probably be a great read. Better than II, but it probably won’t be a game changer. A game changer will always be a reference, a shape, a starting point, a long term monetary gain. Here is the pricing of three recent graded copies of DKI (1986) and what they sold for; 9.4 $220, 9.6 $239, 9.8 $750. Don’t you feel the pricing should be just a bit higher here, considering the iconic attachment of this book right? Well it probably would be, but one slight setback, too many copies out there. According to the CGC Census there are 344 9.8 graded copies and 725 at 9.6 and 350 at 9.4. and so on…..that’s a whole lot of comics. This is the reason the pricing will steadily increase over the years, but will never bounce to ridiculous numbers quickly like DKIII will in the immediate interim. Now lets relate ALL of this to Dark Knight III. The other speculative sites will inform buyers that this will be a book for the ages. Newsflash, It’s not going to be, but most buy into it and will jump all over it. All of those crispy 9.8 rare variants of Dark Knight III will go out to the grading companies and now you will eventually far exceed the 344 copies from 1986 that grade at 9.8. They will sell at or ABOVE the last sold copy from 1986. Does this make sense at all to you? Oh yes yes, it’s a special cover that’s right. The inside is still the same right? Yes yes it is, we’ve already established that. But man is this a great money grab right? There will be over hyped buyers listening to these other sites and essentially making a bad purchase, but readers here will be smart and sell their books if they can double/triple their money. Do not let greed set in, you will eventually lose.

Dark Knight I (1986) contained the first appearance of Carrie Kelly. It was written Frank Miller. Art by Frank Miller and Klaus Janson. Dark Knight III this Wednesday will be written by Brian Azzarello and ….Frank Miller? Back to that in a sec. Art by Andy Kubert /Klaus Janson. So it’s said that Frank Miller had nothing to do with the story. DC attached his name as though Miller was an intricate part of the story, but he kind of wasn’t. Frank Miller did state though that he will be THE writer on Dark Knight IV. Oh joy, 80 variants for that one we hope!

Will Dark Knight III contain that all too important first appearance to keep its lure? Will the story be so groundbreaking that it changes the comic book medium? This is the only way in the comic collectors hobby that DKIII will sustain its long term monetary value in ANY way. Otherwise what you will have in that $600 Jim Lee variant cover is…..a pretty cover. Good luck with that. Invest that $600 on a Silver Age or Bronze Age book.

Click on the RED links or the comic cover to buy/bid from All sellers on Ebay.

In closing regarding DKIII. Before anyone sends the hate mail we are not suggesting you do not buy DKIII or any of its variants. We are not down on DKIII. We’re not saying NOT to buy it. You absolutely should. It’s probably going to be a cool read, but what we are saying is not to get caught up in the hype and waste your hard earned money. If you dig a variant and it’s expensive, but YOU dig it, then by all means buy it. Buy what you like because you connect with it. We like to inform collectors of the reality of things and not the fantasy when it comes to speculation. Barring any major introductions or groundbreaking storytelling, this series at the end of the day will be just another good Batman story. Which is fine.

NOTE: To any of the Frank Miller fans, did you know we have a Frank Miller checklist on InvestComics? Yep. Right HERE. Have fun and click on those Miller books you either didn’t know about or forgot about altogether!

(insert sarcasm here) Oh my goodness! It’s Harley Quinn on the cover of a Deathstroke comic! Will Deathstroke #12 be just like the RARE Scooby Doo Team-Up #12 Harley Quinn comic that InvestComics did NOT recommend and sold for a whopping $5.99 on Ebay last week?! No, but it’s a bad as* team-up and should be checked out.

Check out Justice League 3001 #6 as a new race of New Gods make an appearance.

A must read new DC/Vertigo title this Wednesday; Jacked #1. We can see this “ordinary” character becoming a movie or TV series one day.

Image Comics informs their Black Magick readers that a major character introduction will come in Black Magick #2. Sticking with the tip-off deal here from Image, Rumble #9 is set to introduce two major characters into the fray.

WWE fans may want to be put on alert as Ringside #1 from Image Comics hits this week. A violent wrestling story from writer Joe Keatinge. No John Cena here….maybe that’s for the best?

Click on the RED links or the comic cover to buy/bid from All sellers on Ebay.

Saga #31 will return its story line to real time.

Back in 2010 InvestComics pointed out a nice cheap Jack Kirby number one issue/first appearance. It was Devil Dinosaur #1 (1978) and a near mint raw copy was selling for about $9. King Kirby was the writer, artist, editor, and the cover artist of this book for most of the nine issue run. A graded 9.8 PGX graded sold last week for about $74. Still a bargain actually! Why the mention of Devil Dinosaur? Well a sleeper book may hit this Wednesday so don’t nap on it. Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #1 will be a good book. A few variants available, but the regular Amy Reeder cover is our fav. Also a note here and maybe more important than anything we just said. Back in 1978 not only was Devil Dinosaur’s first appearance in the number one issue, but it was also the first appearance of Moon Boy. Guess who’s first appearance is in the 2015 number issue? Yep, Moon Girl.

Regular visitors to the InvestComics website know that we are big fans of Silk. Always have been. We have always felt there is more upside to her character than many other new female characters within the Marvel Universe. Silk #1 in it’s second volume already hits this Wednesday. Written by Robbie Thompson and art by Stacey Lee. You’re going to have to fight through a lot of the Silk #1 volume 1 to find Silk #1 volume 2 on Ebay right now. The popularity of the latest series should overtake the current 300+ listings of volume 1. Or after you click the link, you can input “vol 2” on the search bar! Some still come up differently on Ebay, so you’ll have to try different searches; i.e. Volume 2, Silk #1 vol 2, Silk vol 2 #1, etc…..

So what does Marvel do if they A: don’t want to pursue the Rom character back from obscurity or B: never cared enough to even think they want Rom back so they lost out to IDW Publishing in getting Rom back first even if they did in fact want him. Confused yet? We are. Anyway, comic fans know by now that Rom Space Knight is now at IDW Publishing. With that, Marvel will try to one up IDW this Wednesday with Venom Space Knight #1. No for real, no joke. No Amazing Spider-Man #300 Venom here, no this is Venom Space Knight! Marvel put writer Robbie Thompson and artist Ariel Olivetti on this book. They’re looking for a pop here. Will they get it? Hmmm…..maybe not? Maybe? But the Mike Deodato Jr. variant is awesome though isn’t it?

Click on the RED links or the comic cover to buy/bid from All sellers on Ebay.

What happened to Fiona Staples on Archie?? Welcome artist Annie Wu to Archie #4. Fantastic Paul Renaud variant cover.

InvestComics gave you a heads up on Henchgirl #1 from Scout Comics. It sold out it’s short print run rather quick. Now the followup; Henchgirl #2. Will the second issue dictate where the series is headed? Will fans pick up on it? If you dug the first issue, show your support. Oh wait wait, we forgot to mention, Henchgirl #2 is sold out. Maybe the fans are speaking out already!

Another week, another S.H.I.E.L.D. Number one comic. This week its Cavalry S.H.I.E.L.D. 50th Anniversary #1. Melinda May’s first appearance was in SDCC Agents of Shield #1 (2014).

The Dark Horse Colder Toss The Bones #1 cover reminds us very much of the original Colder #1 cover, doesn’t it? It’s not a bad thing, it just brought the brain right back to that cover. That all said, the volume 1 number one is a nicer (grosser) than the new Wednesday release.

Must read this week, Valiant Entertainment’s Book Of Death The Fall Of Harbinger #1.

A few secrets to learn about and some revelations this Wednesday. This always makes for some great reading. Lets hope at least one of these comics gives us a “holy sh*t” moment.

Find out who the character Poison is in Hail Hydra #3. Poison first appeared in Web of Spider-Man Annual #4 (1988). Speaking about finding out things, learn more about a new character in Riverdale; Archie #3. The Fiona Staples cover is the best of the bunch. It’s actually the “regular” cover, the rest are variants.
A big reveal (secret) will be uncovered regarding Howard The Duck in S.H.I.E.L.D. #10 and learn where Green Lantern got his new look from in Green Lantern Annual #4.

Writer/artist Joe St. Pierre is consistently introducing new characters each and every new issue of The New Zodiax. The New Zodiax #4 is no different. Read the best kept indie comic secret (for now) from Astronaut Ink.

You have one minute to spare? 60 seconds?….

Host Salvatore Antithesis with Co-Producer/Camera/Editor Brenton Noon bring an all new comic book review show like you’ve never seen before. It’s impossible to get bored or click it off because it’s only one minute long! “Sal’s Minute Of Mediocrity!” No wasted time, down time, maundering, just getting to the point. And Sal definitely knows how to do this. Watch the trailer below which last 7 seconds more than the actual show! Will Sal’s Minute Of Mediocrity! ever go over the one minute mark? Will it be by 4 seconds or 8 or less?? Will he hit the one minute spot dead on? Will the internet explode if he goes over the one minute? Will fanboys find something to complain about regarding this video and fun concept? (yes of course they will), All of these questions will be answered soon with surprises in store! So sit back, grab one junior mint, no time for a drink and watch the Exclusive 67 second new teaser trailer debuting in theaters before the new Star Wars The Force Awakens movie right here, right now! Chewie said this was happening, maybe we misunderstood. Hard to catch everything he says sometimes.

Star Wars 8 InvestComics

Oxymoron #1 – As new comic book Wednesday rolls along, this comic will be sold out at Diamond soon enough.

Star Wars #8 – A new Star Wars comic this week. Buy it, read it and hold onto it. Each and every single Star Wars comic (until December and beyond actually) has the potential of a speculators dream. If one introduction in any of the Star Wars comics makes it to the big screen, you just paid for a few months of comics on your pull list.

Hip Hop Family Tree #1 from Fantagraphics is sold out.

Book of Death #2 – This event story line from Valiant Entertainment is all sorts of fabulous.

Archie #2 – Not as big a return as Star Wars, but the new Archie series will probably touch on a lot of introductions that will eventually appear in their movie release or television release. The relaunch of the Archie Comics line is an important one because it’s probably a direct link to anything regarding their media releases. An Archie movie or television production will be a big hit amongst the younger crowd. Not the kids, the Twillight/Harry Potter crowd. And that’s a loyal group following, which equates to popularity, which equates to money in your pocket.

House of M #1 will be a good read. Comes with lots and lots of variants. Why exactly? We must have missed the memo.

Marvel is really pushing that female readership envelope aren’t they? Almost every single new hero these days is a female one, previous male heroes are now women and now this Wednesday Secret Wars Secret Love #1 arrives. Nothing at all wrong with reaching an audience (making more money), just that a romance comic might be a bit too soon. Seems all forced here, as though they have to cater to an audience that is not within their demo. Don’t force the issue with reaching a target audience, let it happen on its own with product selling itself. If it does pop then great, if it doesn’t, well it doesn’t. It all seems a bit contrived sometimes.

A new foe (maybe) and a new artist (Stuart Immonen) on Star Wars #8 this Wednesday. A few variants available here. The sketch variant is sold out. Remember InvestComics’ word on all Star Wars books. Buy them.

Skull The Slayer makes an appearance in Weirdworld #3. He first appeared in Skull The Slayer #1 (1975). What a fantastic Bronze Age affordable book to own. Written by Marv Wolfman, pencils by Steve Gan and cover art by Gil Kane and Al Milgrom.

Archie #2 has a huge selection of variant covers to choose from this coming week. Did we miss another memo? Anyway, the regular Fiona Staples cover absolutely kicks major butt.

So here are a list of comics below that collectors should be aware. A talented young career thus far, but so full of life.

30 Days of Night #1 (2011) IDW’s hit comic. Steve Niles writes, Sam Kieth art and cover art by Fiona Staples.

A mega hit from the onset. Fiona does everything in this comic but write it. That’s left up to Brian K. Vaughan of course. Art/inks/colors/letters and cover by Fiona.

Life with Archie #24 (2012) Here’s an important collectors issue. This is the first Archie work for Fiona (cover art only). It’s a magazine variant. She will be an intricate part in the relaunch of the Archie Comics line coming up very soon. Archie #1 will be all Fiona Staples with some Mark Waid (writer) thrown in.

Betty and Veronica #267 (2013) The first official Archie “comic book”. A variant cover. Not a magazine type. First Betty and Veronica art.

Velvet #1 (2013) A beautiful Midtown Comics variant cover here. An Ed Brubaker/Steve Epting book.

Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man #1 (2014) A variant cover supplied here. An original thought went into this Spidey variant, unlike the same old Spidey swinging from the buildings.

Howard_the_Duck_1_InvestComicsSo what makes Detective Comics Endgame #1 more of a standout than Howard the Duck #1 this week? Why even compare them really? No reason, just because. Well maybe because Marvel is pushing this C list character down our throats with ten variants at last count? And the Detective book has one awesome regular cover. Of course the comic book collecting life isn’t all about cover though, right? It is in fact though the first appealing thing one sees, so the marketing must captivate the eye and sell it first. Make that person WANT to pick up that comic. So I ask the question, one sees all bazillion of the Howard the Duck #1 variants and then one sees the Detective Comics Endgame #1 sitting on the shelf. Besides your shop having your books displayed in alphabetical order, in which the first book you probably will see is the Batman book, which would you be so inclined to pick up and thumb through first? Maybe some do pick up the Howard book first, but the majority will probably gravitate towards that awesome Rafael Albuquerque cover for Detective Comics Endgame #1. Well that’s all about the outside, what about the inside? One book is about a Private Investigator that is a umm….a duck and the other is about a new group of teenagers kicking some as* in Gotham to save it from being overrun by Jokerized victims. Maybe you still like the Howard book. The Howard book will be a fun read though, so get it for at least that reason! Both are cool. So don’t get all hurt that I’m not that high on the Howard book. Speculation = opinion.

Detective_Comics_Endgame_1_InvestComics Avengers_195_InvestComics

Not that owning the Fear #19 (1976) book (first appearance of Howard the Duck) is a bad thing, but if you’re in the market to buy a good first appearance for $250 or $500 dollars, there are other books to seriously consider. Ask yourself this. Would Disney really want to jeopardize/replace the lure of Donald Duck with a wise cracking, cigar smoking duck? I highly doubt they want to throw Howard in our faces as the duck to really remember and constantly have questions from children to adults saying, “Is that Donald Duck?”. Um no. Disney would not want this. Why do you think there is no real talk about a cartoon or a movie pertaining to Howard? For this reason. Too close to Donald. Maybe someday Disney will bite the bullet and release a Howard cartoon or movie, but as for right now it’s not happening. Maybe a Howard the Duck comic book is a feeler to see what sort of attention it gets? Then maybe we’ll get some real news of something? This speculator doesn’t think we’ll see anything for some time. The Donald lure is way more important to Disney right now than destroying the very fabric of Disneyland or anything pertaining to Donald with people constantly mistaking Donald for Howard. By Avengers_196_InvestComicscomparison, will we ever see a nasty mouse character created within the Marvel U that looks very similar to the Big Mouse with an attitude and possible cigar? The short answer is no. Howard will stay where he is right now and Disney is very content with that. Buy Detective Comics Endgame #1, looks like a winner. (Not that many floating on Ebay right now. Click the link and get yours if you want it!). Story sounds good, good creative team, possible intro to a new team and that cover……

CLICK the RED Links and go straight to Ebay.Buy or Bid on the comics right now within this article!

Instead of paying so much for a Fear #19 comic, why not check out who Ant-Man is dealing with in Ant-Man #3. Although Taskmaster is not in comparison to Howard as far as notability and pricing as far as first appearances go, his (cameo) in Avengers #195 from 1980 is a nice book. Recommended by InvestComics a few years ago when it was a $7 book, it has since climbed into a decent area and is still very affordable at this point. His first “full appearance” is in Avengers #196. Rumors surround Taskmaster as a possible movie appearance from time to time as does the possible breakout ability he has as well. Nothing of either end really….yet? Either way, InvestComics is still high on this comic after years of recommending it. Be sure to click the RED link to bounce over to Ebay (it’ll open in a new window, leaving your page right here!) to throw a bid down or a buy it now. A George Perez book with upside here. Be forewarned, various grades and pricing on Ebay for Avengers #195 are very sporadic.

Bloodshot_6_InvestComics Ninjak_1_InvestComicsDepending on how long you’ve been a speculator, you will remember the Valiant comics craze. Ask a seasoned veteran about the ridiculous Valiant pricing at one time and listen to how many people lost a tremendous amount of money in these books. Now flash to 2015 and you will see that the speculator just ain’t going for that again! Many new Valiant comics have gotten a new life (relaunched) on the label, but the back issue market for these books from which these characters first appeared have done nil. So with that, Ninjak #1 will reappear in his own title. Ninjak first appeared in Bloodshot #6 back in 1993. If you click the red link here, that Bloodshot #6 (see the red link again!) can be yours, a NM for only $1.79. My my, how times have changed.

As there is most weeks, there is always an Image Comic to keep an eye out on. This week it’s Southern Cross #1. (Only 10 of these now on Ebay with a couple of variants). An interesting story with only one variant cover to show for. The variant is from Tula Lotay. She’s been around a couple of years, but is making her presence known. Watch for this newbie as she comes up the ranks with the Babs Tarr’s, Stacey Lee’s, Fiona Staples‘ of the world. Notice a trend here? Just saying. And very awesome.

Arkham_Knight_1.InvestComicsA video game adaptation comics really surmount to much within the aftermarket, but they are still great nonetheless. Check out the new Batman Arkham Knight #1 as it leads up to the new video game release. The Gary Frank variant is sold out already. It is a beauty too! Get it on Ebay right now if you want! That Red Link! Helping everyone out here!

The Disney spiteful demise of the Fantastic Four comic is almost here. The next to last issue promises lots of cool things. Fantastic Four #644; the end is near.

CLICK the RED Links and go straight to Ebay.Buy or Bid on the comics right now within this article!

Spider-Gwen will continue her “torrid” pace of popularity this week. Will number two sell out too? How long will the madness for Edge of Spider-Verse #2 continue for? (Insert sarcasm here) Only 230 listings at the present moment. Will Spider-Gwen be the next Harley? Will she be the Howard the Duck? Time will tell! And speaking of Spider-Verse, Amazing Spider-Man #16 name drops Spider-Verse within its solicit this week. Anything going to pop up here? Will Marvel ever let Spider-Verse go already? Spidey also has Amazing Spider-Man Special #1 coming out. Cool read here, nice Adam Kubert variant and who knows what can pop up here too?

Check out the pages of Ms. Marvel #13, may have an intro. Cool book anyways.

A few number one issues to definitely check out this week. Surface #1 from Image Comics. Spawn fans rejoice, Spawn Resurrection #1 will not only be a new beginning, but a Todd McFarlane variant will come along for the ride. The wildly successful Sixth Gun will begin anew with Sixth Gun Dust to Dust #1. Creator Cullen Bunn of this series also has another book coming this week; Hellbreak #1. Great stuff here. Bill and Ted’s Most Triumphant Return #1 from Boom Studios is a fun book. Bill and Ted originally made their comic book debut in 1989’s Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure Movie Adaptation #1 from DC Comics.

Postal #2 from Image hits this week with a very cool variant. Postal #1 showed some nice sales. Will the series pick up some more steam?

Some quick reminders from InvestComics coming up. Reminders on how to be a true modern speculator. InvestComics has covered this area quite a few times over the years, but a refresher course is always helpful isn’t it?!

Fantastic_Four_Vol_1_52 Gwen_Stacy_1_InvestComics New_Teen_Titans_Vol_1_2 Iron_Man_Vol_1_55

The Spider-Gwen craze will hit its pinnacle pitch this Wednesday. Well maybe not it’s monetary/speculative peak, but the craze will be at it’s all time high. Spider-Gwen #1 will be released with a ridiculous amount of variant covers. Not Star Wars #1 ridiculous, but ridiculous enough. The variant cover chase has become a huge fad and any true speculator buying them should be doing so for one reason. To sell it. Sell it sooner rather than later. This site has been saying for years that if you are a true modern comic book speculator that you do not fall in love with your comics. Preferably your moderns. Fall in love with the ones you enjoy reading or you just dig for your own reasons, but don’t fall in love with that Edge of Spider-Verse #2 Greg Land variant 9.8 graded that recently sold for $849. There is no way in the comic God’s creation that comic will be $849 one year from now. Do you honestly think this comic has more staying power than a 7.0 Thanos first appearance? A 6.5 Black Panther first appearance? A 9.8 Deathstroke first appearance? All of these books just mentioned, in those grades are cheaper than the first appearance of Spider-Gwen on Ebay right now. Again. Do you honestly think Spider-Gwen can hold a mantle to any of these characters? The realist will say no. The fanboy……well that’s a different story. The point here really is to sell your modern books when they reach stratosphere status as EOSV #2 has done. If you bought the comic for cover price and could make $800+ on it, sell it now. You can get a bunch of first appearance Deathstroke’s with your $800. Any true speculator in their right mind will buy a raw New Teen Titans #2 NM for $120 and hold onto that book. Deathstroke has staying power and has earned the right to command that type of money. Greed and bad speculation right now is driving the 9.8 first Spider-Gwen close to $900. It’s absurd to pay that type of money on a modern book that is only a few months old. Are there some modern books that are worth spending a little bit of money on and holding onto it? Sure there are, but no one is going to just “give” you a New Mutants #98 for $50 or $100. That’s a high priced modern that has too many copies available out there. Not saying it’s not worth the asking price, but you ever see that showoff on Facebook that is displaying 8 graded/signed copies of Deadpool’s first? Yes we all have and guess what? It’s not the same person showing them off. Too accessible for such a high priced book. This spells for a bit of a collapse later on for a book like that. “Well Jay isn’t this a speculation site?” Well yes it is, but it’s also a site that will always inform you of a bad deal too. We’re not salesmen here. We tell it like it is. Be smart investors, don’t think any variant or high priced modern that sells for an absorbent amount of money today will sell for the same thing 365 days from now. I almost guarantee it won’t in most cases. Star Wars #1 variants….you think those variants will be the same price one year from now? Simply answer, no. The first rule of the InvestComics speculator 101 is not to fall in love with the modern book you bought to flip. Holding onto it too long will put you in the red. Many years of Wall Street experience has showed me how clients lose a lot of money because they hold and hold and hold and hold. I cannot stress enough to regular readers of this column (which you know already) and new readers (which will learn now), when you have a chance to make that profit. Take it. Maybe the market will go higher after you sell, but you know something? It’s not your commodity to sell anymore, you don’t own it, stop following it. Move on to something else. If the market collapses after you sell? Tell yourself “good job”and move along. Too much self rewarding will catch up with you. These are some rules to follow. Enjoy what you do. Never showboat, never look back, never look too far ahead, look to the immediate future and determine what is the right time to sell or buy.

Avenging_Spider_Man_19_InvestComics Fantastic_Four_Sleepwalker_InvestComics Sleepwalker_1_InvestComics Sleepwalker_5_InvestComics

The new Deathstroke series is kicking all sorts of as* lately. Tony Daniel continues to pull double duty as writer and artist. Deathstroke #5 will have the biggest fight the New 52 has seen. Deathstroke vs Batman with Harley Quinn caught in the middle of it. Awesome stuff here.

Fantastic Four #643 will feature the return of Sleepwalker. Seems he’s a big deal in the back issue market these days! Sleepwalker has appeared sporadically throughout the years within the Marvel Universe. At one time disappearing off the Marvel radar for 9 years without appearing in a book. Marvel didn’t deem him very important at one time. Things are about to change a little bit though. Sleepwalker last appeared in Avenging Spider-Man #19 (2013) and 3 years prior to that in 2010. So coming up in this weeks Fantastic Four #643 will be his welcome back party, although he did appear in the previous issue. However, this issue he appears on the cover. It seems Sleepwalker will play a vital role in the new Marvel Universe coming up. His first appearance is in Sleepwalker #1 (1991). His first team-up with Spidey occurred only a few issues later in Sleepwalker #5 (1991). What a fantastic Bert Blevins cover to boot!

Big changes for the Marvel Universe will begin in New Avengers #30. A prelude to the Secret Wars. A must get for fans waiting for that epic adventure to begin.

It seems we’re not quite done with Spider-Verse. Check out Amazing Spider-Man #15 to witness the repercussions of what took place in the Spider-Verse saga.

The secret origin of Teen Abomination will take place in Superior Iron Man #5. Teen Abomination first appeared 4 issues prior in Superior Iron Man #1.

Endgame part 5; Batman #39. The next to last issue of this great story line. Check out the backup story as the prisoners learn the truth about the Joker. A ridiculously unbelievable cover by Greg Capullo here.

WWE fans have a Marvel comic to look forward to this Wednesday. Well let’s correct that, UFC fans have a Marvel comic to look forward to this Wednesday. CM Punk will write a Thor story in Thor Annual #1 along with art from Rob Guillory (Chew). For those of you who don’t know, CM Punk “was”a very big WWE star (according to both of my younger boys) and I know him as a dude that is leaving WWE to fight for real in the UFC. Fun times for UFC fans! Anyway, this is CM Punks first comic book work. A backup just in case he cannot fight for real? Just kidding CM, go get em!

King Prince Valiant #1 from Dynamite Entertainment will have not one, not two, but three Rob Liefeld variants. Liefeld fans rejoice!

D4VE #1 (IDW) will feature a Fiona Staples cover. IDW comics do not usually sustain aftermarket status, but this Fiona Staples gal, she’s got skill and will be killing it for years to come. Get this interesting comic because the story looks like a good one and it’s a cool Fiona cover.

Mister_X_1984_InvestComics Mister_X_2015_InvestComicsWhen Mister X #1 came out in 1984 from Vortex Comics, it was a hot comic. Fast forward to 2015 and we get Mister X Razed #1 from Dark Horse Comics. Incidentally, the 1984 number one issue was Mr. X’s first appearance.

IDW will try a spinoff series from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles books. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutanimals #1 will follow an oddball cast of 5. The Mutanimals first appeared sporadically in several TMNT comics, but they did manage to get off their own series back in 1991’s Mighty Mutanimals #1 (Archie Comics). The new series will be a fun read, check it out.

Firestorm is a hot commodity on the Flash show right now. That dude is total bad as*! His back issue market is moving just a tad as Firestorm begins his popularity role once again with the fans. So with that said, Secret Origins #10 on Wednesday has Firestorm’s secret origin by Dan Jurgens! Only ONE copy of this comic available on Ebay right now. Better grab it if you want it.

They’re Not Like Us #3 from Image Comics will continue its great storytelling and good sales.

There are a few variants that speculators may want to get this Wednesday to do a little flipping with. Get all of this comics signed and graded (as always, must be a 9.8 or higher), then sell them. Simple stuff here. First, there are so many pluses that accompany Spawn #250. It’s a mega-sized issue that features the return of the original Spawn, there is a rare Scottie Young variant, and then there is the Todd McFarlane/Greg Capullo variant. Get a double shot with both sigs; McFarlane/Capullo and you have a great book. Superman #38 seems to have made very little noise considering what its bringing this Wednesday. The comic will be double sized and have the following; Superman with new powers, Introductions/first appearances (or maybe re-introductions), New enemies (again, maybe reintroductions), and ready for this…? A new costume. Yes, Superman will don a new costume. Click the Superman #38 link now and buy your regular and variant copies on Ebay now before your local comic shop starts hoarding them or putting a $10 price tag on them. Wytches #4 will feature a variant cover from new upcoming superstar Babs Tarr. You must visit and like her Facebook page right HERE. Thanks to the VP of InvestComics on the heads on Tarr! “She’s the next Fiona Staples” as the VP said. Yes indeed. And while on topic about the great Fiona Staples, be sure to check out her special wraparound cover on Saga #25. Fiona will be the artist who catapults Archie Comics into the stratosphere when their relaunch occurs. Be ready for Fiona to bring it. You’ve been warned already on these pages about her and Archie Comics. You’ve been warned…..

Weird and funny thing about Avengers #41 this week. It features the same cover as Ultimates #1 from 2002. So with that, we get a sold out comic? Yep. Be sure to be on top of this one. It smells like one of those hot books to bust out. Not much of an explanation as to why the same cover, which means something very cool may be happening inside of that comic. Be sure to hit the links to buy your copies of Ultimates #1 for 99 cents before it may be too late and also the sold out Avengers #41. And awesome Noto variant. Check it out!

Another group(s) will make waves this week. Check out Guardians of the Galaxy and X-Men Black Vortex Alpha #1. This story sounds like it’s going to be some fun. It features the main villain named Mr. Knife within the arc. Mr. Knife’s first appearance is right HERE in Legendary Star-Lord #3. Looks like another 99 cent book to be had. If the story heats up, well then we all know what happens to that 99 cent book right?

New Zodiax #1 from Astronaut Ink is showing signs of great sales. A good looking story with a short print run makes for some nice possibilities no? Click the link to buy your copies now!

Valiant will have a hit on their hands with Imperium #1. Some great variants to choose from here. The book will sell out, so be on top of it. Another sold out comic on the horizon will be Postal #1. A great read and a fantastic Linda Sejic variant to get. Look for Grant Morrison’s Nameless #1 to hit the ground running. The very creepy/dark Rat God #1 from Dark Horse will hit the shelves this Wednesday. Read that with the lights very dim in bed at night. Then good to sleep. Report back what you dream about! The one time red hot Enormous book will hit this week with Enormous #6. The streak will continue with sellouts for that book though.

Cluster #1 from Boom Studios looks like a great read as does Stray Bullets Sunshine and Roses #1 from Image Comics.

Return of the Living Deadpool #1 has a funny Ryan Stegman variant. And All New Captain America Fear Him #1 will be a good read.

There are certainties in life. There is birth, taxes (in most places), death, Sofia Vergara, and Archie Comics.

Pep_Comics_22_First_Archie_First_Betty_InvestComicsInvestComics has always been a big supporter of Archie Comics Publications. Back in 2009 we had a chance to speak with one of the premiere artist within the AC line; Dan Parent. And in more recent times, this past September 2014 we spoke to Alex Segura; Senior Vice President of Publicity/Marketing.

Some may disagree, but if you ask your spouse, girlfriend, best friends, sister, grandfather, grandmother or aunts and uncles who Deadpool is, they may give you that blank stare and shrug their shoulders; “I don’t know.” Ask these same family members or people, “you know who Archie is” and the response will probably be either one or two ways. “Archie who?” The question with a question would be as if you’re speaking of a friend or family member. Now give those same people the clue that don’t know your line of questioning, you say “comic books?” The overwhelming response is immediate. “Oh oh yeah, that red headed dude with the girlfriends. Yeah I know that guy”.

So what’s the point here? Simple actually. A real comic book collector knows what the point is here, but lets first talk about the Fanboy response for a minute, the close minded/I only know super-heroes ones. The fanboy cringes as though someone scraped their knuckles across a blackboard when “Archie” is mentioned anywhere. Already the fanboy is disgusted they have made it this far into the article reading about Archie and will either A: leave now or B: stay because they yearn to escape the fanboy vortex they so desire to get out of. For those who do not know about Archie Comics or those who are willing to educate themselves a little bit, stick around. There are some pretty heavy investments to seriously consider coming up in a little bit as well as some fantastic reading material too.
Archie Comics and the Archie characters are as timeless as they come. More so than any Wolverine, Deadpool or Nightwing character will ever be. DC Comics has been around for 80 years (including when they were National Allied Publications). Marvel Comics has been around for 75 years (Including when they were Timely Comics). Archie Comics has been around for almost 75 years. Archie began their company as MLJ. It wasn’t until the late 1950’s did they adopt the name Archie Comics Publications. Through changes aplenty including being a publicly held company, lawsuits, a failed imprint; Red Circle Comics, to even more lawsuits, the company has endured its fair share of ups and downs to say the least. There are so many moving parts to their history that it simply cannot be covered here. Of course, hopefully many of you reading this will head on over to the internet to find out more details on this fabulous company.

Archie Comics is on the verge, the cusp of busting loose in so many ways it’s going to be unbelievable to the average comic collector. Especially the ones that think Archie Comics are for kids or for girls (The fanboy). That type of thinking is not only the most naive thought process, it’s as uneducated as it comes. In recent years Archie has not only stepped up the way their product/brand appears as far as marketing and art, but their story lines include an adult rated zombie series, the death of Archie, The birth of children, a handicapped character, the marriage of major players, introductions of new characters including a gay character named Kevin Keller, and so on and so on.

Recently, Archie Comics announced a major redesign of their entire universe. They also announced new areas of exploration which includes; television, movie, and merchandising. An imprint named Dark Circle Comics will also debut in 2015. And in addition to that exciting news, a relaunch of Archie Comics starting from number one! What a way to celebrate right?!

With all of the great things happening for quite some time now and the future for Archie Publications, it’s probably a good time to get a checklist together. A checklist that only InvestComics can deliver. We have given fans the most extensive comic book checklist on the internet. We’ve had Batman, Spider-Man, Avengers, Hulk, Superman, and Walking Dead just to name a few. Now we will cover Archie Comics! Get your wallets out because you’ll be spending some big bucks for some major players, but they will pay back majorly because of the publicity Archie and the gang are about to undertake in 2015. Wow this is going to be a huge year for them and for the speculator!

One huge takeaway from the research we did was that there are not that many graded copies of some key issues. Even some of the Bronze/Modern comics have flown under the radar. Many of the comics can be pulled out of quarter boxes or yard sales. There is potential here. A lot of it. There is so much money to possibly be made from grading/signature series, it’s almost mind-boggling. Get on this gravy ship InvestComics fans because WE are about to change things regarding the aftermarket when it comes to Archie Comics. If Archie Comics publications hits its stride in 2015 (and it will), the aftermarket will explode.

One last thing. There are and will be many Archie Comics inadvertently omitted. Understand that there is 75 years of comic books to cover here. Not every book will be hit upon. This was not done with the intent of excluding them on purpose, but a simple case of not listing it due to the complexity and range to cover. If you have an Archie Comic that YOU think is worthy of being on this list, then please by all means share it below and on our Facebook pages. Be sure to remember one thing though, when Archie Comics start up-ticking, InvestComics was the driving force in letting the speculators know about the new books to look for. Don’t be the creator of the force, but be the deliverer of the message from InvestComics. In other words, give credit where credit is do. The InvestComics team worked on this article (checklist) for all to enjoy and officially start the Archie Comics movement. Now……

Happy reading and happy hunting!

InvestComics Hot Picks Special – Archie Comics Checklist

Archie_Comics_InvestComics (1)

It begins with Archie Andrews himself. A bit of an Incredible Hulk #180 vs #181 going on here. Cameo vs first full appearance. Archie first appeared on the cover of Jackpot #4 (1941) but he also appeared in Pep #22 (1941) that same month. A copy of the Jackpot cameo (graded 9.2) in 2009 sold for $11,900. In 2014, a 2.0 graded copy sold for $5,983. The Pep #22 (graded 7.0), Archie’s first full appearance, sold for $143,400 in November 2014.

Archie Comics

Archie Comics #1 (1942) – Here’s the second appearance of Veronica. In 2011, an 8.5 copy sold for $167,300.

Archie Comics #100 (1959) – Only one reported on census. A 2.5 that sold for $22. Get a great copy and become the highest grade on census and cash in too.

Archie Comics #200 (1970) – Absolutely no graded copies on census. This comic is not celebrated on the cover as its “200th anniversary issue”. This is probably why it was never submitted, but still doesn’t matter. Get a copy and grade it.

Archie Comics #282 (2nd print) (1979) – This second print comic is a rare one within the Comic collection lure. A 9.4 graded sold for $250 in 2013. Nice deal for a comic you might find in the 25 cent bin someplace. Get high grades here speculators….

Archie_100_600_InvestComics

Archie Comics #300 (1981) – This celebrated anniversary comic has no graded copies on census. This comic right now is sitting either in the 50 cent bin or at a yard sale. Become the first to get a graded copy in on census! Get high grades here too speculators and cash in.

Archie Comics #400 (1992) – The same as #300. No copies graded on census. A celebrated anniversary issue. Look through those old boxes at your shop. Get high grades here speculators………

Archie Comics #500 (2000) – The new millennium saw Archie Comics hit the 500 mark in celebrated fashion. Guess what? None graded on census?! Get high grades………

Archie Comics #600 (2009) – The Archie marries Veronica, Part 1: The Proposal issue. A 4 signature 9.6 graded sold for $127 in September 2014. Imagine the demand on this comic once a television series or movie touches on this. There are also 50 Hero Initiative covers that were auctioned off. Some beauties out there!

Archie Comics #616/617 (2011) – The presidential race was between Barack Obama and John McCain. The variant covers on these Archie Comics featured the battle and friendship of Barack Obama and Sarah Palin? Yep.

Archie Comics #626 (Sketch Variant) (2012) – This comic cracks the checklist due to who is on the cover and what can be done about it. Ex New York Giant football great Michael Strahan dons the cover as Dan Parent lends his incredible talent. Since Michael does a show in New York city every day of the week and Dan is available at most comic conventions it’s a no brainier here to get these two to sign your book and get it graded. None on the census. This is an easy and awesome get.

Archie Comics #627 (2012) – Archie meets up with the rock band Kiss. A 9.6 (highest grade) signed by Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Alex Segura and Dan Parent sold for $101 in 2012. Why not do one better and get the other band mates of Kiss; Peter Criss and Ace Frehley to sign your 9.8 copy? Cha-ching.

Archie Comics #632 (2012) – Archie marries Valerie Brown. What if the television series or movie decides to take this route?

Archie Comics #633 (2012) – Archie and Valerie have a baby! The first appearance of Star Andrews.

Archie Comics #645 (2013) – A Tim Seeley variant cover! Sweet.

Archie Comics #648 (2013) – Walt Simonson variant cover! The legend does an Archie cover! Nuff said.

Archie Comics #650 (2014) – Fiona Staples variant cover! Fiona will be a huge part of the Archie relaunch. Get it signed and graded now!

Archie Comics #656 (2014) – Valerie Harper’s sister debuts. She also is the first major character that is wheelchair bound in Riverdale. Archie Comics keeps with the realism of everyday life and shows we all may be different, but we’re all a team.

Archie_Comics_InvestComics (2)

Pep Comics

Pep Comics #22 (1941) – Well this is the holy grail of Archie Comics. The Action Comics #1 if you will. The awesomeness of this comic not only contains the first appearance of Archie Andrew, but it also features the first appearance of his right hand man, his com padre, his brother; Jughead. It ALSO contains the first appearance of Betty Cooper. So not only is Pep #22 valuable for obvious reasons, but it’s a three for one deal. Find this comic book and make a deal with the dealer. Any price you negotiate will be a good one. Look for prices to steadily climb as Archie Publications start making their move. A move into every household around the world. A move into the young generation in which they will ignite a new fire to the likes we haven’t seen since Twilight did it. Be ready….

Pep Comics #26 (1942) – So it only took 4 issues for the famous threesome to begin. And the beginning of a 73 year headache for Archie! Some might even say it’s a good headache to have! The pricing seems almost comical for the rest of the Archie gang. Set to be an obvious major player too, Veronica Lodges’ first appearance goes here. The highest grade on census is a 5.0, selling for $5,150 in mid 2013. A buy right now raw. Grade it. This is an absolute bargain.

Pep Comics #31 (1942) – Veronica Lodges’ dad makes his debut. Hiram Lodge commanded $4,550 for his first appearance; An 8.0 grade in late 2014.

Pep Comics #36 (1943) – The first official Archie Comics cover. A 5.5 recently sold for $5,378.

Pep Comics #46 (1944) – Only a couple of graded issues here. The most recent 1.0 grade sold for $90. The owner of the hangout the Archie crew will be at most of the time; his first appearance; “Pops” Tate.

Pep Comics #78 (1950) – The first appearance of the smartest kid in all of Riverdale; Dilton. A 2006 9.2 graded copy sold for a mere $478. A recent sale in early 2014, 8.5 grade sold for $455. What a steal right now for that “nerd” that will probably capture the younger audience’s attention and be beloved.

Archie_Comics_InvestComics (3)

Jackpot Comics

Jackpot Comics #5 (1942) – Collectors get a glimpse of Archie’s mean pal Reggie Mantle. This is his cameo in one panel. The most recent graded copy sold for $1,933. It was a 2.0. However, back in 2003 a 9.0 copy sold for $2,128. A bargain. A very large bargain. But wait, there’s more. This comic happens to also have another first appearance. Riverdale’s teacher Waldo Weatherbee.

Jackpot Comics #6 (1942) – The first full appearance of Reggie Mantle. A 4.5 graded sold for $384 in late 2014. In 2002 an 8.5 graded sold for a mere $920. Wow what a great buy that was.

Archie_Comics_InvestComics (5)

Archie’s Pal Jughead

Number 1 (1949) – First appearance of the school bully Moose Mason. An 8.5 sold for $2,749 back in 2009.

Number 5 (1951) – First appearance of Midge Klump; Moose’s girlfriend. She first appeared in two comics at the same time. This one and Betty and Veronica #4 (1951). 8.5 is the highest grade for both of these comics on census. The Jughead sold for $455 in 2014 and the Betty/Veronica sold for $1,016 in 2012.

Archie_Comics_InvestComics (6)

Archie’s Girls: Betty and Veronica

Number 1 (1950) – A 4.0 copy sold in late 2014 for $525. The best grade (9.0) sold for $3,884 in 2006.

Number 289 (1980) – A scarce second print exist. No grades in the census.

Number 320 (1982) – First appearance of bombshell Cheryl Blossom. This key comic needs to be in your collection. A Cheryl Blossom bombshell character on television or a movie will draw a lot of attention. A 9.6 sold for $600 in 2012. Get this comic now.

Archie_Comics_InvestComics (4)

MORE KEY Archie Comics……….

Archie’s Madhouse #22 (1962) – Every click needs a witch right? Well here’s the first appearance of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. When the Archie brand takes off, this will be one of the spinoffs….I guarantee it. A 6.0 grade sold for a measly $380 in late 2014. A fantastic buy.

Archie’s Pals & Gals #23 (1962) – Another spinoff guaranteed to happen when Archie catches on. The first appearance of Josie. Yes that Josie. A 9.0 sold for $880 in 2013. This is also the first appearance of Melody; the drummer of the Pussycats.

Josie and the Pussycat’s #45 (1969) – The birth of the all girl rock band. When Archie takes off, so will this all girl group. They will, without a shadow of a doubt become a huge selling all girl rock band. This comic has so much potential upside it’s ridiculous. Probably one of if not THE Archie book on this checklist to get. A 7.0 in mid 2013 sold for $150. Only two graded in the census. Hunt this down and buy it now.

She’s Josie #1 (1963) – Josie’s own comic book. One graded copy at 6.0 sold for $52 in 2010.

Archie Giant Series Magazine #579 (1988) – When a real comic collector these days thinks of Archie Comics, they think Dan Parent. Dan is as much the responsible culprit of bringing Archie Comics to the new levels that are leading up to the entire reboot in 2015. Think of Dan as the Geoff Johns for DC. An innovator for the line. Yes Dan Parent is that important here. Always has been and always will be. Here we have one of the first works he tackled for the publication.

Wilbur #5 (1945) – The first appearance of Katy Keene. A 7.0 (highest grade) sold for $847 in mid 2014.

Archie’s Joke book Magazine #44 (1960) – Legend Neal Adams got his start right here. His first published work was for Archie Comics. Only one copy is showing on the census. A 7.5 sells for only $140 in 2013. Sweet.

Life with Archie #1 (1958) – This early number one Archie comic sold for a bargain in 2013. A 6.0 (highest grade) for $522.

Veronica #202 (2010) – Riverdale’s first and only gay character was introduced here. A book to have if the television/movie features Kevin Keller. A signature series 9.8 sold for $225 in mid 2014.

The Punisher Meets Archie (1994) – One of the first crossovers for the Archie line. A fun all around comic.

Jughead #200 (2010) – The first ever Archie Comics variant cover. A 9.8 (highest grade and only one on census) sold for $15 in 2011. Buy this now.

Archie #641 (2013) – Archie meets with the cast of Glee.

Life with Archie #37 (2014) – There are several variant covers, Alex Ross’ is awesome.

Kevin Keller #15 (2014) – A Days of Future Past variant homage cover by Phil Jimenez is fantastic.

Life with Archie #30 (2013) – An amazing Phil Jimenez variant. The new Archie relaunch may look a lot like this.

Life with Archie #36 (2014) – A Death of Archie variant by Fiona Staples. Fiona Staples will play a huge part in the new direction Archie will be going in.

Life with Archie #24 (2012) – Fiona Staples draws a variant with Josie and the Pussycats donning the cover. Fiona’s first Archie work. Get it now.

Life with Archie #36 (2014) – Adam Hughes variant is amazing.

Kevin Keller #14 (2014) – A Dark Knight homage cover from Phil Jimenez. Awesome.

Welcome to the InvestComics Hot Picks

Allow me to reminisce a bit; I need to inform everyone on something very spectacular and drive home a point, if there is one…….

There comes a certain time within a startup business that one can be very proud of their personal achievements. Although there have been several for InvestComics (my fourth child), the ones that stick out are the ones I will cherish and tell myself “Hey you CAN truly make this happen”. Meeting and interviewing the mecca of all comic book legends; Stan Lee, twice! That’s one. Having Mr. Lee utter the words of “InvestComics” on video, forever captured, encapsulated in time, that’s two. Meeting and interviewing my late father’s artist hero (which he never met); Bill Sienkiewicz, that’s three. Starting the InvestComics Publishing Company, that’s number four. Watching the traffic numbers climb to a number you’ve envisioned, and then exceeding it each and every year, that’s five. If I continue I will run out of Microsoft paper, but you get the idea here.

Yesterday one of those pinnacle moments happened again. InvestComics was accepted to write articles for Yahoo!. It’s one of those moments like the aforementioned you pinch yourself and say “wow” this is kinda awesome. I will post on Facebook and the InvestComics website the links to check out. They will be Exclusive articles on Yahoo! From InvestComics. These articles will ONLY appear on Yahoo! and no place else. So be sure to click on the links when they are provided so you can bask in the glory with me. Also, I ask to please share them. The articles are very simple now, but will be enhanced; as did everything else with InvestComics when first started. Here are two links to the very first articles on Yahoo!. InvestComics Top 10 – New Comic Releases and Back Issues for 10/30/13 and InvestComics Top Ten – New Comic Releases and Back Issues for 11/6/13. As stated, these articles will be more in-depth with the next releases. Baby steps…

Thanks to you……the fans…. for making this happen. Thank you for all of your support, none of this is possible without you.

Christmas is officially 24 days away. The InvestComics/Ratchet City Comics giveaway is still on, but we need to get to 3000 LIKES on Facebook in order to award the prize! The winner will receive a CGC Signature Series graded 9.8 Star Wars #1 (2013) Dark Horse comic signed by Brian Wood! Click HERE and SHARE the InvestComics Facebook page everywhere! Be sure to let us know so that you can be entered to win!! Let’s get to 3000!!

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Comic Releases 12/4/13

Just like last week’s InvestComics Hot Picks, not much in the back issue department to check out, but plenty of new issues to check out.

[scrollGallery id=322]

We start the week off with some first appearances that you may want to check out. Avengers (2012 5th Series) Annual #2013 will introduce Zamira. It’s always nice to make sure as a collector to pick up a first appearance in an Avengers book. Knowing full well that annuals don’t usually account to much, but the way things are rolling these days, you never know. So basically, I don’t care that it’s in an annual. Especially that it’s in an Avengers title. The speculator needs to get this comic. The Arrow series on CW is doing quite well for itself these days. The Green Arrow comic is faring okay though. With the release of Green Arrow (2011 4th Series) #26 this week, look for the introduction of some new villains in these pages. In the bizarre first appearance world of comics this week we have Longshot Saves The Marvel Universe (2013) #3. Check out Hulkvengers, Cosmic Carnage, Wolverine King of Vampires among others. Silly, yet once again you never know!

Batman Superman (2013 DC) #6 has our heroes dealing with Mongul. This big ol’ Thanos/Darkseid wannabe first appeared in DC Comics Presents #27 (1980). Check out that Jim Starlin Cover too! Oh of course Jim Starlin is involved with this cosmic character, hello?!

Having a name like Man-Bat is the equivalent of having the name She-Bat, right?? Well anyways, this week in Detective Comics (2011 2nd Series) #26, John Layman brings the She-Bat to the forefront. Here’s a quick trivia question, you must know the answer in 4 seconds flat. Ready? Where is the first appearance of She-Bat…..1,2,3,4 BZZZZ! Time’s up! The first appearance is in Detective Comics #407 (1971) by legend Neal Adams. Now that’s at least a reason to own the book, right?!

If you’re a fan of any Spidey comic these days you will realize that anything is possible with the way a storyline can twist and turn. There may be a similar path this week with Superior Spider-Man (2012) #23. Marvel promises to have the most “cringe-worthy moment is Spider-Man history” happen in this comic. What is worth a statement like that? Well you’ll have to buy the comic to find out. “….In history”, that’s very mighty of them to say isn’t it? Superior Spider-Man #23 is a definite pick-up this week.

Amazing X-Men (2013) #2 features a fan fav Dale Keown variant that’s sold out at Diamond. Possibly a nice CGC Signature Series opportunity here. It’s a $40 variant, so score a 9.8 or higher.

Inhumanity (2013) #1 variant by Nick Bradshaw is sold out. Inhumans will be a hot commodity for a bit, so be on top of them. Check out last week’s InvestComics Hot Picks #296 for more on the Inhumans.

The popular on-line video game Hawken will get its own comic book this week from Archaia Studios Press; Hawken Melee (2013) #1. It’s almost sold out at the distributor, so be sure to check in on it.

Want to follow the story of three dogs surviving the extinction of the human race in Rover Red Charlie (2013) #1? Sounds a bit over the top right? With proven talent like writer Garth Ennis on this book, one cannot help but see what this is all about.

The latest installment of the Terminator hits this week; Terminator Salvation Final Battle (2013) #1 and the Pete Woods Variant is sold out.

Another zombie book finds its way to the new release shelf this week; Deadworld Restoration (2013) #1. The zombie genre is going to die soon (no pun intended) with too many storylines focusing on dead people that walk around. See last week’s Hot Picks #296 for more on the zombie genre.

What’s not dead on arrival is the new red hot Noir comic from Dynamite Entertainment. Noir (2013 Dynamite) #2 is sold out at the distributor. Look for second prints to follow shortly.

A new creative team will be taking over on Valiant’s Shadowman (2012 4th Series) #13. Be sure to check that out.

There is a “thing” Dynamite Entertainment is doing that is kind of perplexing (not really, they’re making extra cash with these “rare comics”), but maybe cool for the collector/speculator? It’s a question because there is no reasoning behind why they continue to do this to certain comics (other than the cashflow) and they are extremely limited, but we’ll point out a few of them this week. Red Sonja Unchained #4 Cover D High-End Mel Rubi Blood Red Ultra-Limited Cover. There are only 25 of these in existence. The “number” in existence is the running theme here, so check out what applies here for these comics; Dejah Thoris And The Green Men Of Mars #5 Cover G High-End Jay Anacleto Risque Color Ultra-Limited Cover (50 Copies), Lords Of Mars #5 Cover D High-End Mel Rubi Risque Red Ultra-Limited Cover (50 Copies), Black Bat (2013 Dynamite) #7 Cover D High-End Ardian Syaf Black & White Ultra-Limited Cover (50 Copies), and Shadow Green Hornet Dark Nights #2 Cover E High-End Alex Ross Sketch Art Ultra-Limited Cover (25 Copies). I do suppose that if you want to spend a $100 on any of these comics you can, but how exactly do you make your money back on these “investments”? (If you want to call it an investment). Graded CGC Signature Series? How would one sell something that isn’t really in much demand? Getting an Alex Ross sig series on the Shadow Green Hornet Dark Nights #2 is a good start.

Sticking with the Dynamite Comics here, be sure to check out Legends of Red Sonja (2013 Dynamite) #2 with the Frank Thorne exclusive cover. It’s a much cheaper route than the above mentioned. A $3.99 comic limited to comic subscribers at their local comic shops and an initial limited print run. All that for $3.99, not bad.

And finally, from Archie Comics Archie #650 Cover B Variant Fiona Staples World Tour Cover. This awesome variant comes from the red hot series artistry of Saga; Fiona Staples. A $3.99 easy, no brainer pick-up.

Invest wisely,

BRIAN K. VAUGHN and FIONA STAPLES bring SAGA to IMAGE in 2012

THE SAGA BEGINS IN 2012

Image Comics Welcomes Return of Brian K. Vaughan

Berkeley, CA – 25 July 2011 – Leading up to San Diego Comic-Con 2011, comics fans and the comics news media buzzed with rumors that Brian K. Vaughan, the acclaimed writer of Y: The Last Man, Ex Machina, Runaways and Pride of Baghdad, was returning to comics. Vaughan’s return was confirmed at Image Comics’ Kirkman Talks Creator-Owned panel Saturday, when Vaughan announced that he is launching SAGA, an all-new ongoing title co-created with artist Fiona Staples, at Image in 2012.

“It’s an honor to be doing my first work with Image as they start to celebrate twenty years of publishing creator-owned comics,” said Vaughan.

Vaughan continued, “I love this medium more than any other, and I’ve been dying to tackle one more epic ongoing monthly series, but I wanted to find the right story and the perfect collaborator. I’m more excited about SAGA with co-creator Fiona Staples than any project I’ve ever worked on, so I hope we’ll be able to explore our strange new universe for years to come.”

Fiona Staples is a Shuster Award-winning artist whose most recent work includes Jonah Hex, Mystery Society, Northlanders, and the Eisner-nominated North 40.

“I don’t think I’ve made it a secret that Brian is one of my absolute favorite writers in comics and my enthusiasm for his excellent work makes me beyond excited to welcome him to the fold,” commented Image Comics Publisher Eric Stephenson. “Likewise, I’ve admired Fiona’s work for years, and I think she and Brian are a perfect match. There aren’t enough superlatives for a team like this!”

Their science fiction SAGA will be an ongoing drama for adults, chronicling the epic life and times of one young family fighting to survive a never-ending war.

SAGA #1 will debut in early 2012.

Here’s what Fiona Staples had to say about working on Jonah Hex over on DC’s THE SOURCE blog:

I love Westerns and this was my first time getting to draw one, so I really enjoyed tackling the scarred faces, period clothing and harsh environment. This particular story had a bit of a horror aspect too, so it was right up my alley! Of course, the best part of all was drawing Jonah’s famous messed-up face and contorting it into different expressions (mostly variations of “stoic” and “disgusted”) as he reacts to the weirdness going on around him.

And if the cannibals don’t kill him, the cold will! Featuring the work of up and coming artist Fiona Staples (NORTH 40)!
