With the influx of female characters making their way into the comic book medium these days, with lots of thanks to Disney (Marvel) making it so that the female character shows more of a “character side” as they have never before, we wanted to make sure to recognize some of the keys players. We completely understand that female characters have been around since the inception of comic books (no need for a history lesson, stop typing that email or Facebook post), but there is a movement happening in the past few years to the likes we have never really seen in case you haven’t realized it. Disney put a female lead in its new Star Wars movie, now the next Star Wars movie (Rouge One) will ALSO be a female lead. They know what they’re doing and their comics are following the same guidelines. So as is everyone else in the comic book industry. Much like what always happens with InvestComics and everyone following us or emulating. We’re flattered though. Like Disney.

Listed below are some new comics, some old comics and characters WE like. This will be the first installment of more Female character checklist to come. Of course we will in FACT not have some of your favorites here, but all in due time. Relax. Just breathe. Deep breaths. No emails, no Facebook post, Tweets, Instagram notes. Breathe……breathe.

Batman Harley Quinn

Batman Adventures #12

Batman Adventures #12 (1993) – First ever appearance of Harley Quinn – Click to Buy/Bid

Batman Adventures #12 (1993) – The first appearance of Harley Quinn. This comic features the “animated” version of Harley and not the actual “continuity” Harley Quinn” within the DC Universe. There are approximately 14+ or so books before she ever appeared within the confines of the actual DC Universe. Here are some of those early appearances (listed below).

Batman Adventures: Mad Love #1 (1994) – Second “non-continuity” Harley appearance.

Batman Adventures Annual #1 (1994) – Third appearance and legend John Byrne actually pencils a Harley Quinn story here. How great is that???!!

Batman Adventures #28 (1995)

Batman and Robin Adventures #1 (1995)

Batman Adventures: Holiday Special (1995)

Batman and Robin Adventures #8 (1996)

Batman and Superman Adventures: Worlds Finest (1997)

Batman Chronicles Gallery #1 (1997) – Harley made an appearance in the regular DC Universe with a pinup in this comic before the next book listed here.

Batman Harley Quinn (1999) – Here is the first official Harley Quinn entry (appearance) into the DC Universe. Also an origin issue. A modern day classic cover; Alex Ross.

Batman No Mans Land Gallery #1 (1999) – Harley’s second appearance is very much like her first. In a gallery book. So this means that this comic is not really recognized as her second appearance in the DC Universe, very much like her first appearance.

Batman #570 (1999) – Harley’s second appearance. Many collectors are hoarding these away for a future gauntlet throw down to maximize their potential earnings. Not an easy book to get.

Detective Comics #737 (1999) – The third appearance of Harley Quinn.

Action Comics #765 (2000) – Harley steps out of a Batman comic universe for the first time. This comic is also the first time she appears in the same book as Superman. A definite collectors item here and it’s an affordable book too!

Harley Quinn #1 (2000) – 7 years after her debut into the comic book world, Harley finally gets her own title.

Wonder Woman #164 (2001) – Harley in the same comic as Wonder Woman for the first time. A ridiculously gorgeous Adam Hughes cover as well.

Batman 613

Batman #613 – Click to Buy/Bid

Harley Quinn #4 (2001) – First appearance of the Quinntets.

Harley Quinn: Our Worlds at War #1 (2001) – This comic not only possess a great story, but it also marks the first time Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti get their creative Quinn popped. Amanda and Jimmy are THE go-to when it comes to Harley Quinn and this is their first work on the character.

Click on the RED links or the comic cover to buy/bid from All sellers on Ebay.

Jokers Last Laugh Secret Files #1 (2001) – A couple of months later, Amanda and Jimmy do a backup story in this book. The beginnings of the Quinn/Conner/Palmiotti threesome. A Threesome that will become a monthly romp in about 13 years.

Batman #613 (2003) – During Jim Lee’s epic Batman run, he penciled Harley into the Hush story line. He got her right on the cover too. When a talent like Jim Lee draws any character for the first time, it’s time to take notice.

Harley Quinn #38 (2004) – Walking Dead artist Charlie Adlard pencils the final issue of Harley’s first comic book run. Nice way to go out right? With Charlie at the helm and a low print run, this makes for an attractive comic.

Suicide Squad #1 (2011) – This comic is essentially Harley’s first appearance “post Flashpoint” and the character in the movie will be in direct correlation to THIS particular time frame. Hence the high mark selling points in the aftermarket. Her second appearance came a week later in Batman #1 (2011).

Suicide Squad #6 (2012) – The origin of Harley Quinn. The first of two parts. Two major comics for ANY Quinn collector. Great cover too.

Suicide Squad #7 (2012) The origin of Harley Quinn concludes. Another stellar cover.

Injustice Gods Among Us #1 (2013) – The first “Injustice” appearance of Harley.

Harley Quinn #0 (2014) – The trio is back together. Amanda Conner, Jimmy Palmiotti, and Harley Quinn! Along with Amanda and Jimmy in this issue you have, Adlard, Cooke, Daniel, Hughes, Kieth, Lee, and Simonson just to name a few. First appearance’s of Bernie (the talking beaver. Yep, talking beaver), and Robert Coachman.

Harley Quinn #2 (2014) – First appearance of Rodney and Syborg (post FP).

New Suicide Squad #1 (2014) – This series is fantastic. The team consist of Harley, Deathstroke, Deadshot, Joker’s Daughter, and Black Mantra.

Secret Origins #4 (2014) – A deeper look into the Harley character. Brought to you by Amanda and Jimmy.

Harley Quinn #10 (2014) – First appearance of the Brooklyn Bruisers team.

Bloodshot 6

IC 100 Club Pick – Bloodshot #6 – First appearance of Ninjak – Click to Buy it Now

NOTE. Please understand that when InvestComics releases the Hot Picks article on Friday that many of the independent comics may not be available on Ebay yet. Most of the time, some of the more obscure titles make their way onto Ebay later on in the week or right on/at/before new comic book day on Wednesday. Be sure to check back and click the links or cover(s) to see if the books you want have been listed on Ebay. They usually show up, so be sure to check back!

This week’s IC 100 Club Pick is Bloodshot #6 (1993) graded 9.8. This comic is the first appearance of Ninjak. Valiant Entertainment is on the cusp of breaking loose within the film industry. Is it possible we will see Ninjak make an appearance? Maybe. If so, here’s a book to grab for $100 with free shipping.

Creators Brendan Fletcher, Dustin Nguyen and a host of others usher in a new beginning for the Gotham Academy. Check out Gotham Academy #14 as the book starts its “Yearbook” story line.

Click on the RED links or the comic cover to buy/bid from All sellers on Ebay.

The crossover with Batman and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles seems to have been receptive. Batman Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #2 brings together Shredder and the Penguin. As if that wasn’t enough to bring you back, Kevin Eastman does another variant.

Although the Joker’s Daughter has appeared in the previous 2 issues of Red Hood Arsenal, she gets the front cover this week on Red Hood Arsenal #8. It’s been a little while since we’ve seen her grace a cover in an almost solo capacity. With DC using the character a bit more these days, are they gearing up for a mega-push? It’s quite possible. The female hero/villain in comic books is a hot commodity for many comic publishers these days. DC might push for this particular female character to get going. Get Catwoman #23 (2013) and Catwoman #24 (2013) now before it’s way too too late. That is the cameo and first appearance of Joker’s Daughter. Some low rates for these comics on Ebay right now. Get em!

Wonder Woman fans will have a new series to check out this Wednesday. Legend Of Wonder Woman #1 will be a 9 issue mini-series.
DC Comics over the course of the last couple of weeks have been releasing “adult coloring book” variant covers like Starfire #8. Although they do resemble sketch variants, these are ones that DC encourages us “adults” to color on. Why exactly? How many “adults” are really going to do this?
Speaking of covers, we’re really digging the Robin War #2 incentive cover by Lee Bermejo.

The Walking Dead reaches its 150th issue this week. There are so many variants it’s hard to keep up, but there is one we want to talk about. Besides the ultra cool Ryan Ottley variant cover, Tony Moore contributes a variant. Yes THAT Tony Moore. the co-creator of The Walking Dead. The last time Tony penciled a cover for the regular ongoing Walking Dead series was back in 2005; The Walking Dead #24. The Walking Dead #150 will be an obvious huge seller, but the Tony Moore variant is the prize. Did we mention it’s sold out already? Better get yours if you want one. Oh and one more thing, InvestComics may have a HUGE contest in regards to this comic in the works. Stay tuned to our Facebook page AND our Contest section on the site right HERE. It may happen, it may not, but IF it does, Walking Dead fans will love it!

The new Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. #1 comic will be based on the television series. If you’re a fan of the television series, this comic is for you! If not, this comic is NOT for you! Simple enough right? This series has no chance on the longevity scale at all. The television series will not last as long as Bonanza did and the comic series will succumb before that TV series does eventually. We’re not hating on the series, but it will thin out as most of these types of shows do. Let’s face it, they’re not bringing it like the DC television shows are. Flash, Green Arrow, and Gotham. As we pointed out last week with the random Doctor Strange #4 Deadpool variant, must be some stalled sales going on there to throw Deadpool on a variant like that. Well within the plethora of Agents variants, Mark Bagley provides a Deadpool variant. Very random once again. Very unnecessary, but a great cover nonetheless.

Deadpool also appears on a very funny variant cover from Tom Raney. Check out All-New Wolverine #4. The cover is a take on the Batman slapping Robin meme that floats around all of social media.

Click on the RED links or the comic cover to buy/bid from All sellers on Ebay.

Another Deadpool variant; Guardians Of The Galaxy #4 shows Deadpool riding on some sort of Mindcraft thingy. If you don’t know what Mindcraft is, Google it. If Marvel ever decides to take on the license of Mindcraft (maybe it already has it? Who knows?), this comic is the first Mindcraft Marvel. Maybe the first Mindcraft deal in all of comics? Haven’t seen other references, so help us out if you have. **(Update – apparently Deadpool is riding an Internet meme called a nyan cat. Thanks to Barry W for clarifying this).

Silk #3 J Scott Campbell variant cover is sold out.

Secret Wars #9 finally arrives. With it arrives a sentimental cover by Sara Pichelli. Peter giving Miles encouraging words.

A new look Falcon debuts in Captain America Sam Wilson #5.

If you’re in the market for an all out “magic” comic book, then IDW’s Gutter Magic #1 is for you. Witness an all out magic war set in New York City. Brought to you by writer Rich Douek and artist Brett Barkley. Great storytelling and great art. This will be a hit for IDW Publishing.

Also from IDW this Wednesday, Luna The Vampire #1. This will be a fun comic to check out.

An original Kickstarter campaign starter becomes a regular monthly title from Dark Horse Comics. Leaving Megalopolis Surviving Megalopolis #1 is written by Gail Simone with pencils by Jim Calafiore. The original concept of the “heroes” in this book stop being good guys and become very bad. Writer Gail Simone will bring us a great tale because she can flat out write. And veteran artist Jim Calafiore is showcasing some of his best work ever. This looks like a great read, a must get.

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 7/9/14

1916135Everything you are about to read is All original material from InvestComics. 100% Authentic. No borrowed material ever, 100% InvestComics.

Not that many pick-ups in the way of the spec market this week, but as always still plenty of great reads too.

There are a sufficient amount of Grayson (2014 DC) #1 still available at the distributor, a bit surprising. The comic will probably fair well as the series progresses. The new series will follow Dick Grayson as an agent from Spyral. The Spyral group first appeared in Batman Incorporated #4 (2011). A pricey $75 variant by Phil Jimenez accompanies the new release.

Another comic this week with a few copies still in the warehouse is Spider-Man 2099 (2014)#1. And another surprise here? Maybe not so much so. Marvel has been beating the relaunch Spidey comics a bit much these days. That’s not to say a speculator cannot flip the books to make some cash, but the mere fact that there are still copies of this issue available for reorder is saying something. It’s a number one Spidey book, it should have a sold out sign on the shelf. If you want to make any sort of headway here, you’ll probably have to get the Midtown Comics J.G. Jones variant for $10. Maybe flip it raw. Getting a signature and a grade is probably the way to go here if you want to make a few dollars more. Don’t expect too much here. Speaking of Spider-Man, 100th Anniversary Special Spider-Man (2014) #1 continues the first look at the new villain Clash.

One more thing here about Spider-Man 2099. If you’d like to find his first appearance or any Spider-Man first appearance you really should check out a few checklists I put together a while ago here on InvestComics. The latest one was the Spider-Verse checklist. This article is a hot commodity and will become even hotter once the Spider-Verse comics start spinning in different series. Check out that article right HERE. There is also a Spider-Man movie checklist part 1 & 2. Those are extremely handy for those seeking out every important Spider-Man book possible. Part 1 HERE and Part 2 HERE.

There is also a video that I put together for the Spider-Man articles showing all of the Spider-Man key issues that any comic/Spidey collector needs to have. If you haven’t seen it, enjoy. If you have, thanks for watching.

A bit of a head scratcher this week with this one here. New Suicide Squad (2014) #1 looks, feels, and should be a sold out comic. The Joker’s Daughter, Deathstroke, and Harley Quinn make up two-thirds of this awesome team. How is this comic not sold out? A $15 Ivan Reis variant would certainly be a smart pick up here. The momentum may catch on after a couple of issues. Or maybe it’ll catch on sooner than that. Either way, the New Suicide Squad is an awesome team. Fans will come around….

Original Sin (2014 Marvel) #5.1 will introduce the Tenth Realm and focus on Thor/Loki’s new sister Angela. Fun times! Wolverine continues the beginning of the end in Wolverine (2014 5th Series) #10.

Spread (2014 Image) #1 is sold out and is a must get this week and a head scratching sold out Grimm Fairy Tales Swimsuit Special (2010) #2014 makes for great eye candy….that’s about it. Zenescope Entertainment does have a sold out comic this week that doesn’t give that eyebrow raise; Realm Knights Age of Darkness (2014) #1. Plenty of copies left from Images’ Death Vigil (2014 Image) #1 and Waste Of Time #1 from Northwest Press is just about sold out.

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 2/5/14

30474_20120422194521_largeIt’s Superbowl Sunday 2014. The NFL’s first appearance in a big market company came in 1991’s NFL SuperPro #1 from Marvel Comics. Creators attached were Nicieza, Delbo, DeCarlo, Frenz, Sinnott, and Legend John Romita Sr. Nice line up right? And a Spidey appearance! Too bad the comic is pediatrics office material. If anything, it was a fun comic!

One particular comic really has our attention this week. No it’s definitely not Ms. Marvel #1, more on her in a bit. But the comic that has our ears peered up is Marvel Knights Spider-Man (2013) #5. Not only does this issue possess a very cool cover from Marco Rudy, but a history making comic here folks! Well that’s according to Marvel, so we’ll take this with a grain of salt. Curiosity does have the best of us here though. The issue promises “….the craziest two page spread in comic book history!” Yes, you read that right. Now Marvel must deliver. What do you think? Will they? Take it off the shelf and take a looksee.

DC will be milking the recent success of Jokers Daughter with the release of Batman Joker’s Daughter (2014) #1. The character still remains a mysterious one as does the speculation market. As DC rams the character down our throats, look for pricing across the board to level off……a lot. Simply put, too much of a good thing is never good. Holding back a bit on the Jokers Daughter would help the speculative market immensely. Giving a steady diet is what the doctor should order here, but we know that’s not going to happen. DC will beat this character to death to the point no one will care about her. A perfect example of this would be the Lobo character back in the day. Of course it’s happened countless times since then, but Lobo was so hot at one time and then just sort of faded away because of the overkill. Deadpool comes to mind too. Marvel released a new number one issue last week with “Deadpool” in the title and retailers are probably trying to figure out a way to give them away at this point. Too much of a good thing is not always good.

[scrollGallery id=333]

Case in point with Punisher (2014 10th Series) #1 and Ms. Marvel (2014 3rd Series) #1. Punisher was in that same boat at one time, appearing in every single comic imaginable. Frank Castle even teamed up with Archie at one point. Although his first appearance in Amazing Spider-Man #129 (1974) is a steady book, it’s become a “slow” steady book. Still a good investment, but you’ll have to wait a while for any sort of real return on that comic. A good hold book these days.

You know what Carol, Sharon, Karla, Deidre, and Kamala all have in common? They were all Ms. Marvel’s at one time. Now with Marvel’s latest Ms. Marvel #1 they are doing what any normal business model would do and that’s a money grab. Nothing wrong with making money right? But when it comes at the expense of selling an ethnicity, it’s a bit disappointing. Marvel did the same exact thing with Miles, an African American Spider-Man. Marvel can spin it anyway they’d like, but they got what they wanted and that’s major press on that announcement.  The same holds for the press they received on the new Ms. Marvel. Yes she’s Muslim. She’s the first Muslim Super-Hero ever in the Marvel Universe. Why must we go down this road again exactly? Money, yes that’s right. All this being said, Captain Marvel #14 (2013), the first appearance of Kamala Khan and the Ms. Marvel #1 issue will reward nicely in the aftermarket because of the ridiculous hyperbole surrounding it. Do not, I repeat, do not think holding onto this comic will bring bigger fortunes down the road. It will not. Marvel will realize after a 12 issue run or so, with slumping sales, they’ll cancel the series and Ms. Marvel, no matter what race will go back to being that third rate character……in turn leaving you with a bunch of worthless comics.

Let me clarify one thing though. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a having an African American or Muslim super-hero. Why not just do it without the fanfare? Exploiting a superheroes ethnicity, sexuality (gay), and or any other human element for a mere profit instead of awareness is not educational but a lack of judgment of making these superheroes to be “different” and not within the fabric of society as everyday people, but outsiders. I like to think we’re better than this.

Marvel throws another Wolverine #1 (relaunch) at us. Number 5 for those keeping score at home. Wolverine (2014 5th Series) #1 will be as big a bore as it’s expected to be. He’s holding a gun on the cover. Wow. Loki brings the same sentiments here with Loki Agent Of Asgard (2014) #1. This cover is a huge bore, sorry Jenny Frison, but you’ve done much better.

In X-Men (2013) 3rd Series #10 we will see the recruitment of two female characters, Typhoid Mary and the Enchantress. Typhoid Mary’s first appearance in Daredevil #254 (1988) was a hot commodity at one time. Nowadays you can probably find this comic in the 50 cent long boxes. Still a very cool book to own if you don’t already. Journey Into Mystery #103 features the first appearance of the Enchantress. Jack “King” Kirby is all over this comic. A must own.

Captain America (2012 7th Series) #16 will focus on Jet Black once again. Her first appearance happened way way back in Captain America #1 of this series.

Superior Carnage gets his own annual this week; Superior Carnage (2013) Annual #1. Looks like a great read, check it out.

Ghost Solider will be making their presence known again in Action Comics (2011 2nd Series) #28 this week. Check out the first appearance a couple of issue prior in #26.

Green Lantern (2011 4th Series) #28 will be one of those cool flip issues, with Red Lanterns #28. All that with a $2.99 price tag.

One of the best buys this week has to go out to Turok Dinosaur Hunter (2014 Dynamite) #1. Definitely get one of the higher end variants to flip. As always a CGC signature series (9.8 or higher) will fetch the most bucks. Look for a sellout on this book and a spike in the Valiant series from 1993. And no you’re not seeing double, the Dynamite cover pays homage to the Valiant series. At least we hope Dynamite relates that someplace, otherwise it’s a ripoff.

If you’re looking for a bunch of first appearances in one comic this week, check out Sonic Universe (2009) #60. And also check out the new comic from Image Comics Apocalypse Al (2014) #1. Writer J. Michael Straczynski on this one, a sure sellout, and you better get your hands on this one.

Invest wisely. Carpe Diem.

Top 150 Hottest Comic Titles and recent Back Issues during Early OCTOBER 2013

Top 150 Hottest Comic Titles and recent Back Issues during LATE SEPTEMBER 2013

Bi-weekly column and list compiled by comics historian Terry Hoknes of www.HoknesComics.com – hoknes@hotmail.com

HotComics2013EarlyOctoberLogo

This list is updated every 2 weeks.  This list is compiled from my non-stop research of the current market.   I believe these were the most demand and growing in value books this month.     This list focuses on all regular edition covers.  (Variants are not listed otherwise they would likely dominate the entire list due to instant high prices and calculated small print runs).   If you think I have missed any hot titles/issues of the last 5 years please let me know.  Here are my picks of what I believe are the hottest comics at this very moment from all sold releases of the last few years online based on back issue sales ABOVE cover price.

Note these are all the “hot” recent sold comics that your comic shops will not have still on the shelf for cover price.  However many speculators will hunt their local comic shops looking for that “hot” book that is still on the shelf – sometimes you find them!

This market report is based on very current constant online sales.  Number of sales online above cover and the amount above cover price are the criteria I use for ranking books highest on the list.

MARKET REPORT:

#1 AFTERLIFE WITH ARCHIE #1 (ARCHIE 2013) 4 regular covers and 52 variant exclusive store covers made this the hottest new comic released recently and many sales as high as 3x guide for certain covers sold individually.

#2 3D VILLAINS MONTH WEEK #4 (DC 2013) 13 different 3D covers came out in week #4 of the villains month campaign.  Here are the highest prices achieved for each.  Some high sales actually came in pre-sales online.  Most prices have settled to about 50% of these listed prices.       Week Four   Joker’s Daughter at $110.00    Doomsday at $20   Black Adam at $20   Killer Croc at $13   First Born at $13   Man-Bat at $13   Bane at $12   Sinestro at $12   Secret Society at $12   Ocean Master at $12   Parasite at $11.   Joker’s Daughter is without the single most hyped up and hottest comic of the entire year and may have set world record prices for a pre-sale of a new release as collectors were paying up to $110.00 each for a copy of this book just to make sure they got one.   That is paying almost 40x cover price before it even came out.   Very few customers got a copy unless they were a regular file customer for Batman: The Dark Knight series.  It was the hottest of all the 3D covers and the hottest comic of the entire year.   However the downside I predicted is that prices could only come down and that has already started to happen.

#3 3D VILLAINS MONTH WEEK #3 (DC 2013) 13 different 3D covers came out in week #3 of the villains month campaign.  Here are the highest prices achieved for each.  Some high sales actually came in pre-sales online.  Most prices have settled to about 50% of these listed prices.      Week Three   Clayface at $20   Dial E at $46    Eclipso at $20   Deathstroke at $25   The Rogues at $15    Cheetah at $14     Penguin at $13    Ra’s Al Ghul at $13     Arcane at $13    Black Hand at $12   Scarecrow at $12    Shadow Thief at $12   Lex Luthor at $11    H’el at $7

#4 3D VILLAINS MONTH WEEK #2 (DC 2013) 13 different 3D covers came out in week #2 of the villains month campaign.  Here are the highest prices achieved for each.  Some high sales actually came in pre-sales online.  Most prices have settled to about 50% of these listed prices.  Week Two   Harley Quinn at $36   Mr Freeze at $31    Lobo at $31   Riddler at $20.50   Reverse Flash at $20   Court Of Owls at $18   Killer Frost at $17.50   Solomon Grundy at $13   Trigon at $13   Black Manta for $12   Mongul at $12   Brainiac at $10.50    Zod at $10

#5 3D VILLAINS MONTH WEEK #1 (DC 2013)   13 different 3D covers came out in week #1 of the villains month campaign.  Here are the highest prices achieved for each.  Some high sales actually came in pre-sales online.  Most prices have settled to about 50% of these listed prices.   Week One   Forever Evil #1 – $280 (1 per store variant cover).  Darkseid for $31  Poison Ivy for $27   Ventriloquist for $26.50    Joker for $25     Count Vertigo at $20    Creeper at $20     Deadshot at $16.50     Two-Face at $15     Relic at $14    Bizarro at $13.50     Grodd at $13    Desaad at $13    Cyborg Superman at $10

#6 CATWOMAN #23 (DC 2013) 1st appearance of Joker’s Daughter appears in the last page and is a prelude to her big appearance coming up soon in the 3D DC Villain take over month.   Prices hit $13.00 the day of release.

#7 FARLAINE THE GOBLIN #1 (STUDIO FARLAINE 2013)  New small print publisher – possibly smallest distributed comic of the year with print run of only 1350.   Two versions of #1 exist as an early promo copy was sent out only to retailers with a print run of only 250 copies.  Both versions sold out before release date at Diamond.   Copies hit a high of $40.00 within first week of release.  We helped bring awareness to this amazing book before release date.   Prices cooled down after a few weeks.

#8 OUTLIERS #1 (2013) Indie comic self published with financing.  Highest ratings online for story and art.  Super small print run.  More and more hype every week and a print run of less than 1800 copies kept prices continually rising up and currently at $50.00.  We helped bring awareness to this amazing book before release date.   Strong popularity kept prices high on this one after 2 months.

#9 MYTHOPOLIS #1 (ARRDEN 2013) #1 small print publisher printed 4 regular covers very limited.  Comic was delayed as the early variant covers came out 6 months ahead of time and the regular #1 shipped 3 months past original scheduling date.  Copies in first week of release sold as high as $20.00 each for regular cover #1A.     We helped bring awareness to this amazing book before release date.

#10 DAY MEN #1 (BOOM 2013) New ongoing series – #1 sold out instantly – kept rising during early August and then new movie news and the world went nuts for this book.  I received long distance calls for this book and so did other local comic shops as people wanted to buy this book in major multiples.  Hit a high of $20.00 and then online got flooded with too many copies and prices settled now at $9.00.

#11 X-FILES SEASON 10 #1 and #2 both sold out instantly (IDW) #1 2013 – brand new release sold out instantly and regular cover bringing a bit above cover constantly.

94, XFiles Season 10, 1, $3.99, IDW, 24,270

#12 ZOMBIE ANNIHILATION (SILVER PHOENIX 2013) #1 new Kickstarter small print book selling for double cover and some sellers asking 15x cover.

#13 SAGA #1-12    #1 still super hot at about $80 down from peak of $100 – all issues in demand even with high print runs.  #12 was hot for a moment when banned by Apple.  Print runs have gone up the last 5 issues in a row.  #12 has a much larger print run than #1. After The Walking Dead sensation Saga is always Image’s best selling title.

40 Saga 1 $2.99 Image 37641 2012 3
177 Saga 1 $2.99 Image 9641 2012 4
267 Saga 1 $2.99 Image 4484 2012 6

27, Saga12, $2.99, Image, 53,339
#14 BATMAN #1 5 7 9 – sold out issues averaging $20-$30 each and #1 sells for $50.00.  Complete sets of #1-10 bring $150.00.  Batman is the #1 selling regular monthly comic book these days and it is the most valuable “complete set” of all current titles.
#15 THE OTHER DEAD (IDW 2013) #1 of the regular and subscription covers sold as sets as high as $18.00 for the pair.  The series was delayed in stores potentially due to the controversial 1:10 variant cover featuring President Obama with machine guns which sold way above a typical variant price hitting $40.00
#16 THE MOCKING DEAD #1 (2013) New release comic that sold out instantly and went to 2nd print.  Early sales online were all over the place with sales anywhere from $4 to $40 for the subscription cover.  Currently a bit above cover for the regular cover and the subscription about $8.00

#17 SKYWARD #0-3 (2010) Originally a self published mini series in 2010. (3 years before the new ongoing series).  Jeremy Dale self-published the first three issues a few years ago. These black and white “Graphite Editions” have sold on eBay for over $300 for a set of 0-3 in the last few weeks. A number 1 Graphite sells for around $100.

#18 STEAM WARS (ANTARCTIC PRESS 2013)  Unique new series done in steampunk style but tells a new variation of the George Lucas Star Wars movie storyline featuring characters and storyline and artwork that is definitely borrowed and parodies from the original sci-fi movie.   Small print and demand growing for #1 and #2.    #1 did not even make Top 300 chart with sales less than 2400.

362, Steam Wars, 1, $3.99, Antarctic, 2,399

#19 CHRONOS COMMANDOS #1 (TITAN 2013) Small print run small publisher instant sell out – Both issues #1 and #2 have sold as high as $12.00 each.  Neither issue even charted on the monthly Top 300 Diamond sales.   Nazi soldiers and dinosaurs !!  We helped bring awareness to this great comic before release date.

#20 WILD BLUE YONDER (IDW) #1 and #2 both sold out instantly 2013 – brand new release sold out instantly and regular cover bringing above cover quickly.

184, Wild Blue Yonder, 1, $3.99, IDW, 10,840

#21 DEXTER (MARVEL 2013) #1 and #2 sold out with small print run based on the violent TV show.  Immediate increases on #1.

#22 INJUSTICE GODS AMONG US (DC) – the hottest DC title of 2013 with small print runs and 3rd prints selling out.  Peaked in May at $85.00 for set of #1-4      Many sellers with reprint sets that also sell well.   #1 2nd printing hit $12.00   #1 $40 #2 $25 #3 $8 #4 $5 #5-6 $4.   I predicted this could be a hit when I saw the initial print run numbers so low and yet featuring major characters Batman,  Joker, Superman, Wonder Woman etc.   Print runs peaked with #6 and are now leveling out.

#25 CLONE (IMAGE 2012) On July 15th 2013 it was announced that the new TV series was official and that drove up prices on #1 even though it has a larger print run over 23,000.   Diamond still had copies in warehouse up to this news announcement and then sold its last 1,000 copies within days.   #1 currently at $10.00 – all issues selling better now and sold out at Diamond. Note how the print run has dropped drastically.  Issue #1 has almost 500% the print run of #9.

#28 GRIMM FAIRY TALES: OZ (ZENESCOPE ENTERTAINMENT 2013) #1 has 5 regular covers – most sellers including myself sold these as sets.  Selling for cover until it was reported they were sold out and then sets selling for double cover as of Aug 15th.

#29 IT CAME #1 (2013) Small print mini series issue – sci-fi oriented – Very few retailers ordered it – hit $12.00.

#30 NUMBERCRUNCHER #1 (TITAN 2013) New miniseries from small publisher sold out instantly – nobody has copies for sale.

Did not even chart on the monthly Top 300.   High sale of $13.00.   #3 sold out even before day of release.

#31 TODD THE UGLIEST KID ON EARTH (Image) #1 hit high of $20 immediately in January week of release and then settled down.    Smaller print run.  Mini-series #1-4 is sold out and will become ongoing soon from Image with #5 coming out in a month.  News of a new tv/movie reported on July 13th made the #1 a super hot comic instantly with sales as high as $60 in July but then cooled down again.  #1 and #2 have a 2nd print which are both rarer typically in print run than the originals.

#33 WATSON AND HOLMES (NEW PARADIGM 2013) Small print run of 3,800 copies between 2 regular covers sold out instantly and brought sales of up to $50.00 each in first week and then cooled off.   Print run was so small that it did not even rank in the Top 300 of the month.  Currently #1 sells at above $10 and #2 sells at $7.00.   We helped bring awareness to this amazing book before release date.
#34 TRILLIUM (DC VERTIGO 2013)  Rave reviews helped sell out this high print run Vertigo title and sell above guide online even before Diamond was sold out.
#35 EAST OF WEST (Image) #1 Hot as a pre-seller and now sells up to $12.00.   4th printing already and sets of #1-4 sell really well.  This is a rare modern example of a comic with a huge print run that still sells out due to popularity and goes to reprints on every issue.  It’s the “2013″ version of Saga in terms of popularity.  All 5 issues have gone to 2nd prints.

#36 THE LAST OF US (DARK HORSE) – 4 issue mini-series all issues instant sellouts and tie-in to video game.  All issues are sold out and Diamond has sold out of #4 a month before its release.  Currently all 3 1st print issues are selling for on average $23.00 EACH !  #3 hit a high of $41.00 the week of release.  Print runs of issues #1-3 are very low.   Print run of #4 jumped way up and is a common book.  Complete set of 4 issues hit high of $160.00 in early July.    I sold a few sets at $100.00.  Only #1 has had a reprint so far and that 2nd printing might be so rare that it did not chart which means likely a print run of less than 3,000 copies.   Reprints were scheduled by Dark Horse for #1-3 and then cancelled but now just came out.  Prices dropped down after the series was done.

#55 UBER #0-1-2-3   Sold out printings instantly.  Originaly I felt this title was being speculated on too heavily but many sales above cover have proven the demand for this series.   I personally believe this is the single best looking comic of 2013 with glossy paper and amazing colors and artwork.  Some amazing variant covers make it a big job to collect every cover version of each issue.   The first issue was #0 and not #1.  #0 is the rare ones to find.  #0 has a 2nd printing called “enhanced edition”.   Print runs on each individual cover are very low.  There are 4 regular covers of each issue so when you take the worldwide print runs you have to divide it by 4 to get the real print run of each cover.  This makes it more obvious how rare each individual cover is.  In fact there are only about 2,700 copies of each cover of the first issue #0.   Diamond monthly rankings for each issue and the combined print run of all the covers

#56 THE SIXTH GUN (Oni) – All 31 issues sold out – many not even on ebay and low print runs.  Sold a #1 for $250 in Mid April.  #1 now at $90.00.   Prices have dropped by about 70% since their peak from April 2013 when the news of the potential TV show was at its highest hype.   Still some of the rarest comics to collect will keep prices and sales up on this title.  The image speculating boom peaked by April 2013 and orders were raised drastically on issues #30-32 which were the highest since issue #2 three years earlier.

DC 3D Villains Month Print Runs and the Rarest Issues

DC 3D Villains Month Print Runs and the Rarest Issues

Article and analysis by comic book historian Terry Hoknes – www.HoknesComics.com – hoknes@hotmail.com

DC3DRarest

The results are finally in for the most hyped up comics of 2013.   Now for the first time we can find out how rare and not rare the issues are.  Which standard issues are more common than the 3D versions?   Which are the rarest issues overall and how did they rank compared to other issues?

There were 52 3D covers and the same 52 comics were all released with standard covers of the same cover image priced $1.00 cheaper due to NOT having the 3D cover effect.

Here are the best selling 3D cover versions during September 2013 from DC Comics.

Predictably all 4 of the regular Batman issues were the best sellers as Batman is always the #1 best selling DC title month to month.

Note prices however are not very consistent as the Penguin cover has a much smaller print run than the Joker issue.   Batman completist’s long term should keep values up on these issues even though they are the most common. For Batman completists the Jokers Daughter is the rarest of all the Batman related 3D covers.

Only the top 6 3D covers had print runs over 50,000 after the numbers drop quickly and all print runs are decent but modest.   Only the top 21 of the 52 3D covers had print runs over 40,000.    45 of the 52 covers had print runs over 30,000.

Print runs were not very consistent as for example 3 issues of Action Comics had much higher print runs than the Metallo issue   Did DC do this on purpose ?  What was the strategory of shorting only 1 of the 4 issues of a run?   Was this all a game to create a panic and make customers rush to buy these books as DC did achieve 100% sell through rate.

There does not seem to be a real pattern to which ones were underprinted.   3 of the 4 Batman The Dark Knight issues make the list of the smallest print runs.  These all had print runs under 31,000 and while these books are not at all rare they are simply the “rarest” of the batch.    Swamp Thing #23.1 is the rarest of all issues so anyone who was collecting a run of all 52 covers should have found this the hardest to find.   It is the only issue printed under 26,000 copies.  Jokers Daughter became the hottest comic of 2013 in pre-sales and deservedly so as it turned out the print run was the lowest of all Batman related titles and the only one under 30,000.

It will be interesting to see if over time if these Top 10 rarest are the ones that prove hardest to find in the future and could be the ones that go up in value.  Of course that will only happen if demand for those particular titles stay strong.

So far only 1 of the 52 standard covers has sold at Diamond and surprisingly its the one with the largest print run – Batman #23.1 – Joker is sold out.   Only 7 of the 52 standard covers sold over 30,000 copies.  In the long run the standard covers could prove to be more valuable than the 3D covers as the print runs are much smaller for the majority of issues.   Only 28 of the 52 even sold over 20,000 copies each.  These print runs are modest for DC print runs.

10 185 Teen Titans (Deathstroke) 23.2 Std* $2.99 DC 16637

Swamp Thing #23.1 ranks top of this list just as it did with the 3D covers.  Unanimously the rarest of all the DC Villain month comics.

Numerous Superman and Wonder Woman related comics rank very low for standard covers.

3 comics make the top 10 rarest of both lists proving that stores not only did not get 3D copies in the first place but they did not realize there was a shortage to order more standard covers.  These 3 therefore are the rarest of the villain month:

Animal Man (Arcane), Green Arrow (Count Vertigo), Wonder Woman (First Born)

RETAILERS UP THEIR ORDERS ON STANDARD COVERS

While many retailers and collectors realized that certain 3D covers were going to sell out they would up their orders on the standard edition.  This can be seen happening with a few of the most hyped issues including: Jokers Daughter, Dial E, Harley Quinn, Lobo.

In fact there are certain Standard Covers that actually have LARGER print runs than the 3D covers.  This includes:

Justice League (Lobo), Batman The Dark Knight (Jokers Daughter), Justice League (Dial E), and almost equal in orders was: Justice League (Deadshot)

COMBINING PRINT RUNS OF 3D AND STANDARD COVERS

Finally lets combine the print runs of the 3D and standard covers and look for books that stand out in either 3D or standard orders. Also for those who just want to READ  a copy of each book this will give you an idea of which books will likely turn up the easiest.

The top 6 3D covers still hold the Top 6 rank when adding the standard cover editions.

But then the chart begins to drastically change as issues of Detective Comics and Justice League get bumped up the list with large standard print runs.    Yet with some titles bumped up the list certain other titles have to fall including issues of Batman and Robin and Justice League America.     Jokers Daughter gets bumped UP the list to #24 most common villains month comic from a low 3D #46.  Ventriliquist as the biggest bump up the chart due to high standard edition print run.  Now ranks #26 instead of #49.   All the issues of Action Comics get bumped way DOWN the chart due to retailers ordering very few standard covers in comparison.  These could prove to be harder to find in years to come.

#1 3D VILLAINS MONTH WEEK #4 (DC 2013) 13 different 3D covers came out in week #4 of the villains month campaign.

#2 3D VILLAINS MONTH WEEK #3 (DC 2013) 13 different 3D covers came out in week #3 of the villains month campaign.

#3 3D VILLAINS MONTH WEEK #2 (DC 2013) 13 different 3D covers came out in week #2 of the villains month campaign.

#4 3D VILLAINS MONTH WEEK #1 (DC 2013)   13 different 3D covers came out in week #2 of the villains month campaign.

Top 150 Hottest Comic Titles and recent Back Issues during LATE SEPTEMBER 2013

Bi-weekly column and list compiled by comics historian Terry Hoknes of www.HoknesComics.com – hoknes@hotmail.com

HotComics2013LateSeptemberLogo

The 52 comics with the most buzz on the planet this past month were all DC 3D covers during “villain month”.  I have chose NOT to list them individually as they would dominate the entire chart so I am grouping them by week and highlighting the peak values of each 3D cover.  Note there is a regular standard cover version of all these comics which are NOT hot. In fact only 1 of the 52 standard covers has sold out at Diamond.   Only the 3D cover versions are sold out in advance due to stores being allocated copies in advance.    I do NOT believe the print runs on these books are smaller than normal in fact I think they are higher than normal monthly print runs however the demand has caused many people to collect issues they would not normally pick up and of course speculators are buying extra copies of each as demand is strong online as some stores got shorted copies.  Some titles and issues are shorted more than others causing some issues to be higher demand than the rest.

#1 3D VILLAINS MONTH WEEK #4 (DC 2013) 13 different 3D covers came out in week #2 of the villains month campaign.

#2 3D VILLAINS MONTH WEEK #3 (DC 2013) 13 different 3D covers came out in week #2 of the villains month campaign.

#3 3D VILLAINS MONTH WEEK #2 (DC 2013) 13 different 3D covers came out in week #2 of the villains month campaign.

#5 FARLAINE THE GOBLIN #1 (STUDIO FARLAINE 2013)  New small print publisher – possibly smallest distributed comic of the year with print run of only 1350.   Two versions of #1 exist as an early promo copy was sent out only to retailers with a print run of only 250 copies.  Both versions sold out before release date at Diamond.   Copies hit a high of $40.00 within first week of release.  We helped bring awareness to this amazing book before release date.

#6 OUTLIERS #1 (2013) Indie comic self published with financing.  Highest ratings online for story and art.  Super small print run.  More and more hype every week and a print run of less than 1800 copies kept prices continually rising up and currently at $50.00.  We helped bring awareness to this amazing book before release date.

#7 MYTHOPOLIS #1 (ARRDEN 2013) #1 small print publisher printed 4 regular covers very limited.  Comic was delayed as the early variant covers came out 6 months ahead of time and the regular #1 shipped 3 months past original scheduling date.  Copies in first week of release sold as high as $20.00 each for regular cover #1A.     We helped bring awareness to this amazing book before release date.

#8 CATWOMAN #23 (DC 2013) 1st appearance of Joker’s Daughter appears in the last page and is a prelude to her big appearance coming up soon in the 3D DC Villain take over month.   Prices hit $13.00 the day of release.

#9 THE MOCKING DEAD #1 (2013) New release comic that sold out instantly and went to 2nd print.  Early sales online were all over the place with sales anywhere from $4 to $40 for the subscription cover.  Currently a bit above cover for the regular cover and the subscription about $8.00

94, XFiles Season 10, 1, $3.99, IDW, 24,270

#12 STEAM WARS (ANTARCTIC PRESS 2013)  Unique new series done in steampunk style but tells a new variation of the George Lucas Star Wars movie storyline featuring characters and storyline and artwork that is definitely borrowed and parodies from the original sci-fi movie.   Small print and demand growing for #1 and #2.    #1 did not even make Top 300 chart with sales less than 2400.

362, Steam Wars, 1, $3.99, Antarctic, 2,399

#13 CHRONOS COMMANDOS #1 (TITAN 2013) Small print run small publisher instant sell out – Both issues #1 and #2 have sold as high as $12.00 each.  Neither issue even charted on the monthly Top 300 Diamond sales.   Nazi soldiers and dinosaurs !!  We helped bring awareness to this great comic before release date.

#14 THE OTHER DEAD (IDW 2013) #1 of the regular and subscription covers sold as sets as high as $18.00 for the pair.  The series was delayed in stores potentially due to the controversial 1:10 variant cover featuring President Obama with machine guns which sold way above a typical variant price hitting $40.00

#15 SKYWARD #0-3 (2010) Originally a self published mini series in 2010. (3 years before the new ongoing series).  Jeremy Dale self-published the first three issues a few years ago. These black and white “Graphite Editions” have sold on eBay for over $300 for a set of 0-3 in the last few weeks. A number 1 Graphite sells for around $100.

#16 SAGA #1-12    #1 still super hot at about $80 down from peak of $100 – all issues in demand even with high print runs.  #12 was hot for a moment when banned by Apple.  Print runs have gone up the last 5 issues in a row.  #12 has a much larger print run than #1. After The Walking Dead sensation Saga is always Image’s best selling title.

#19 CLONE (IMAGE 2012) On July 15th 2013 it was announced that the new TV series was official and that drove up prices on #1 even though it has a larger print run over 23,000.

#31 SKYWARD #1 (ACTION LAB ENTERTAINMENT 2013) Originally a one-shot in 2010.  Summer 2013 a new ongoing series and all ages friendly from small publisher sold out instantly.  Many copies sold between $20 and $25 online.  I helped publicize this book online myself helping it achieve higher prices.   #1 and #2 currently sell about $8.00 each.   We helped bring awareness to this amazing book before release date.
#32 WATSON AND HOLMES (NEW PARADIGM 2013) Small print run of 3,800 copies between 2 regular covers sold out instantly and brought sales of up to $50.00 each in first week and then cooled off.   Print run was so small that it did not even rank in the Top 300 of the month.  Currently #1 sells at above $10 and #2 sells at $7.00.   We helped bring awareness to this amazing book before release date.
#33 EAST OF WEST (Image) #1 Hot as a pre-seller and now sells up to $12.00.   4th printing already and sets of #1-4 sell really well.  This is a rare modern example of a comic with a huge print run that still sells out due to popularity and goes to reprints on every issue.  It’s the “2013″ version of Saga in terms of popularity.  All 5 issues have gone to 2nd prints.

#54 UBER #0-1-2-3   Sold out printings instantly.

#55 THE SIXTH GUN (Oni) – All 31 issues sold out – many not even on ebay and low print runs.

It’s been a fantastic start of the week for InvestComics. That’s if Saturday and not Sunday is counted as the first day of the week on your calendar. For me, I’m counting Saturday as the first day because of the great things that happened and are on the horizon!

Palm ConSaturday InvestComics visited an old friend with a dream and a passion coming to life for him. Martin Pierro of Cosmic Times Publications has done something that has been sorely missed in the West Palm Beach Florida area for quite some time. He started a comic convention appropriately named ‘Palm Con’ 3 years ago. The first 2 years were held in the American Polish Club in Lake Worth Florida. The show quickly outgrew the space needed in the first year, forcing to rent more space the second year, and now this year the show resided in the West Palm Beach Convention Center! Yes Martin is on to something here. In speaking with Martin for the brief few minutes we had at the show (he was a runnin’), you can see and feel the tenseness of the hard work he put into this show. He’s worked hard for this and it shows. In speaking with Andra Walt (mama), one can hear the proudness ooze off of every word, and justly so. Martin Pierro’s Palm Con has arrived.

InvestComics was invited to the event and came out with a few pictures and some video. Those will come out in the days to come. Overall the show had a nice crowd and people were really enjoying themselves. The guest list included Ethan Van Sciver, Deep Roy, Brutus the Barber Beefcake, Allen Bellman, Jose Delbo, Carlos Castellanos, Jeff Dekal, Jessis Melero, Vinnie Tartamella, Creature Entertainment, and a host of others.

As already said, Martin Pierro is obviously on to something here. The West Palm Beach area was in dire need of some sort of comic book entertainment forum and Martin will provide this to the genre for years to come. I personally am very proud of him and look forward to the years ahead. Thanks for the invite Palm Con, I had a blast!

There will be some more news on the horizon from InvestComics, so sit tight. It’s very exciting, but cannot speak about anything until confirmation comes in. Such a tease right?

Let’s head into the DC 3D books for this week. Seems like forever now with these books no? How’s that saying go? Too much of a good thing is bad for you?  Well what seemed to be a fun idea is starting to run its course. The 3D covers are nice and all, but the 90’s are calling and they want real comic book covers back.

As InvestComics has done for the collectors each week regarding the 3D covers, we will present the comic and the first appearance of the villain takeover of that particular book. As the weeks pass, it looks as though the field is getting very thinned out. But this shouldn’t deter the collector, it only takes that ONE book to hit and you have chaos within the aftermarket. Be smart about which books to pick up as far as the speculation market goes, the story and the actual character (and print run sometimes) is what causes “that” particular comic to uptick. Not because of a pretty cover.

Wonder Woman (2011 4th Series) #23.2 – Wonder Woman never really had the rouge gallery that stood out from most, and this week it’s a case in point with ‘First Born’ taking over the WW book. First Born debuted in Wonder Woman #12 (New 52).

Action Comics (2011 2nd Series) #23.4 – Metallo, another forgettable character takes on Superman in this takeover. Metallo makes his first appearance in Action Comics #252 (1959). Cover by Curt Swan.

Superman (2011 3rd Series) #23.4 – Staying with the Superman talk we have another one of those huh? Characters. The much bigger purple blob thing names ‘Parasite’ visits Supes. Back in 1966’s Action Comics #340, Parasite wasn’t on the roids yet and wore green shorts. The big question is will Parasite wear his green shorts in the new Superman Parasite book?? The tension mounts!

Aquaman (2011 5th Series) #23.2 – Moving right along here, Ocean Master, yes Ocean Master will give Aquaman his problems in his own book this week. Ocean Master. Okay, just like saying that for some reason. OM first appeared in Aquaman #29 (1966). All joking aside, maybe OM will be Aquaman’s nemesis in a film or television show one day. Image that…?

Justice League (2011) #23.4 – The ultra-cool Secret-Society will have the rights to the new JL book this week. Look for Secret Society of Super-Villains #1 from 1976 for their first appearance.

Batman (2011 2nd Series) #23.4 – One of four Batman titles coming out this week. Overkill? Anyway, one of Batman’s biggest adversaries to ever come along after Bats was introduced all of those many moons ago was Bane. Just like Spidey had Venom, Bats has Bane. Not saying that the rest of their rouge galleries are a weak one, but to have a villain come out of the modern era and make such an impact like they have is a big deal. Bane has already been covered in two Batman films. Now granted the first one doesn’t really count, but it did happen and that accounts for something. It wasn’t until the second go around that Bane became the total bad as* that the character should have portrayed. The villain was spot on in The Dark Knight Rises, a fantastic film and a fantastic villain. Do yourself a favor, if you do not already own the first appearance of Bane in Bane: Vengeance of Bane Special #1 (1993), you need to. Although a big print run keeps the cost down a bit, it’s still a wonderful book to have.

Justice League Of America Vol 3 #7.4 – Just like the aforementioned, Black Adam is a total bad as*. This dude needs to appear in a film, stat! Check out Adam’s debut in Marvel’s Family #1 from 1945 (Fawcett Comics).

Batman and Robin (2011 2nd Series) #23.4 – DC’s answer to Marvel’s Lizard came some 20 years later in 1983’s Detective Comics #523. Look for Killer Croc’s debut here.

Green Lantern (2011 4th Series) #23.4 – Too bad the Green Lantern didn’t get as much love as it did. Fans were not at all pleased with the film as box office numbers would show. Sinestro however will remain a main staple in the GL gallery. Look carefully through Green Lantern #7 (1961) and there you will see Sinestro’s first appearance.

Batman Superman (2013 DC) #3.1 – Speaking of movies fans are not receptive to, the new Superman/Batman movie seems to be getting dumped on because of the actor choice Ben Affleck playing Batman. Don’t forget that InvestComics supports Ben as Batman on the Facebook page: ‘Affleck as Batman – I’m On Team Ben’. Click HERE to join the crusade against the naysayers! Any who, within this takeover issue we have the only “thing” to ever “unofficially” kill Superman. Doomsday first appeared in Superman: Man of Steel #17 (1992). Just like Bane and Venom for their respective rouge galleries, Doomsday has become “that villain” within the Superman gallery. A late, modern introduction that has caught on and never let go. Doomsday in the Superman/Batman movie? Hey you never know!

Batman The Dark Knight (2011 2nd Series) #23.4 – One of the hottest “surprise” issues to come out recently is the Catwoman #23 (New 52) book. The aftermarket went bonkers when word got out that this comic contained the first appearance of the Joker’s daughter. This week the Joker’s daughter will make here “second appearance”. Don’t miss this comic, it’s definitely a sellout book.

Detective Comics (2011 2nd Series) #23.4 – The last of the Bat books has Man-Bat gracing the 3D cover. Sometimes a simple switching of a word can create a new character! Although not a recognizable, oh my God I need to buy the issue with Man-Bat in it, it’s the first appearance that’s more appealing than anything. Check out the debut of Man-Bat in Detective Comics #400 (1970). A story drawn by legend Neal Adams and a classic cover by Neal to boot! Good stuff here.

Marvel Comics debuts the new Sun-Girl in Superior Spider-Man Team Up (2013) #3. Sun-Girl is a great looking 70 year old character. Check out the first appearance from back in 1948’s Sun-Girl #1 from Timely Publications! That’s pre-Marvel folks.

Also from Marvel,  check out Infinity Heist (2013) #1 and Punisher Trial of Punisher (2013) #1. With any kind of buzz with these two comics, they will be sold out very quick.

Speaking of sold out comics, if these comics bring it, expect the aftermarket to be a buzzing. Farlaine The Goblin (2013) #1 stands right in front of this line (Interview right now on InvestComics with creator Studio Farlaine!! Click HERE!). Sold out at Diamond Distributors, get your hands on this comic if you can. Zombie Annihilation One Shot from SILVER PHOENIX ENTERTAINMENT is also sold out at the distributor level. Other Dead (2013 IDW) #1, Powerpuff Girls (2013 IDW) #1 are sold out as well.

On the cusp of second prints are Sex Criminals (2013) #1, Super (2013) #1, Rat Queens (2013 Image) #1, and Planet of the Apes Giant (2013 Boom) #1. As always mentioned here, Image Comics have been on a serious roll lately. Their products have been outstanding. Watch out for the sell outs of their comics, because interest will eventually reach the “another” medium as Hollywood will start picking off some of their stories.
