Buy/Bid – Edge of Venomverse #4

Buy/Bid – Ms. Marvel #21

Buy/Bid – Rocket #4

Buy/Bid – Secret Empire #8

Last week Marvel released a Banner vs Cho (Hulk vs Hulk for those at home not familiar or following along). This week we receive Jean Grey vs teen Jean Grey in Generations Phoenix & Jean Grey #1. No really, we didn’t make this up. Writer Aaron A and artist R.B. Silva.
Marvel’s Edge of Venomverse #4 will put the focus on Wolvenom. We’ve informed readers/collectors to pick up each one of these comics within this series. A breakout mash-up is bound to happen. That said, can anything be done about these names though? Wolvenom?
Deadpool makes an appearance in Rocket #4. Writer Al Ewing and art by Adam Gorham.
As the Inhumans television show and IMAX mini-movie inches closer, fans will be inundated with new comic stories about this team from Marvel. A bit of overkill as usual, but life does go on. You don’t like it, don’t buy it. Inhumans Once & Future Kings #1 is written by Christopher Priest/Ryan North and pencils by Gustavo Duarte.
Click on the RED links, Images or the comic cover to buy/bid from All available sellers on Ebay.
A great way to pop some interest and eyeballs onto a series is to have J. Scott Campbell do a variant cover. A Spidey variant no less. Marvel taps Campbell for the Secret Empire #8 Spidey variant. Expect a quick sellout.
A new Star Wars comic debuts this Wednesday. Star Wars Rogue One – Cassian & K-2SO #1. Long title, but almost guaranteed to be another great read. Written by Duane Swierczynski and drawn by Fernando Blanco.
Ms. Marvel #21 could be a first appearance. Let’s all check out this comic.

Not only does this comic carry the first appearance of Shadow, but it also features the first appearance of Doc Savage. A great buy at $2400 here. Now back to the year 2017. The Shadow #1 from Dynamite Entertainment will be written by Simon Spurrier and art by Daniel HDR. Awesome Tyler Kirkman variant cover too (This will make the Best Comic Covers this week!).

It’s a huge week for Thor fans and speculators alike. Thor #8 will reveal who has been wielding the Mjolnir. Who is she? Is the question every comic fans wants to know. Thor #8 promises to reveal a shocking return as well. Which will be more shocking, the female behind the mask or the return? There will be a huge guest line up to help with the dramatics here. Everyone looks on as the mask is slowly taken off. Awesome storytelling to come here, very exciting.

Here is the bigger question for speculators out there regarding this book. Once the reveal happens, then what? Do you run and get the first appearance of that particular character? Do you hold onto the comic for longevity monetary gains? The answer is……no on longevity, yes on short term. Yes on the first appearance, yes on short term. Yes on short if it’s a non-female draw character. If it’s a Jane Foster character, that’s not a short term investment. Journey into Mystery #84 (1962) is the second appearance of Thor and first Jane Foster. You simply do not short term on that book.

Click on the RED links or comic cover to buy/bid on Ebay right now.

Essentially what the speculator needs to do here is sell while the aftermarket explodes. Do not hold onto this comic thinking she will appear in a movie, a television show or her time as Thor will even sustain. Yes she’s been a kick as* Thor, but the love fest will lose momentum eventually. It’s extremely rare over the last 40+ years since comic companies have tried its hand in changing a gender does it ever work for long term. Maybe this character will. Maybe Thor-ette will break the mold and become a huge success. I certainly do not foresee this happening. Been wrong before! No one is perfect. So InvestComics’ speculation here calls for quick and concise sells, do not hold, you may get stuck with books that wind up in the dollar boxes. Will still be a fantastic read regardless of any speculation.

Secret Wars #2 is gearing up to completely annihilate the entire Marvel Universe to make room for a new one. Check out Battleworld in issue number two and what it basically is. The origin of a new Marvel Universe is upon us with a ton of variants for this issue. It’s going to be a long ride with this one, so strap in. We’ll see when all of the dust settles months from now what we are left with. In the meantime, be alert of any new characters popping up during the transition process.

And speaking of new characters. Darth Vader #5 will show some new Vader foes. You know how InvestComics feels about the new Marvel Star Wars books. Buy them all. Just ONE of them, be it a variant (more money to make), maybe not a variant or a graded/signed (even more money to possibly make) could pay for a few Bronze Age issues you really need in your collection. Just ONE, that’s all it takes. The first Aphra appearance (we gave you a heads up) in Darth Vader #3 did just that for some. Its since cooled off, but many speculators cashed in on it. Buy Marvel Star Wars comics. Read them, they’re great.

Click on the RED links or comic cover to buy/bid on Ebay right now.

A few Image Comics to check out this week. Mantle #1 is a straight up superhero comic. Remember those? And right, it has nothing to do with Mickey. The Phil Hester variant is a get. Also from Phil this week is Mythic #1. He writes this magic/mythic comic. InvestComics said this quite a while ago, but as the Dr. Strange movie draws closer and closer, we’ll see more and more of these magic books. Not a bad thing, but remember when The Walking Dead was at its height? Too many zombie books, so expect the same here. A $1.99 price point makes for happy comic book buyers. Injection #1; written by Warren Ellis will see sellouts. This interesting story will appeal to fans and its Warren Ellis so its a win. A Great Declan Shalvey and Jordie Bellaire cover helps too. Staying on topic of a great writer, Cullen Bunn will give fans a horror genre book; Harrow County #1. Probably looking at a sellout here too. Two followups this week regarding number one issues that sold well; Savior #2 (written by Todd McFarlane) and Runlovekill #2. Good starts, now lets read to see where these series are headed. And finally from Image, mythology fans will enjoy Five Ghost Special #1.

Look for Boom Studios to have a hit on their hands with Lantern City #1. Story by Paul Jenkins and Matthew Daley. Four variants are available at last count.

Injustice Gods Among Us Year Four #1 variant is sold out. What does this mean exactly? It means that the variant is sold out.

Quick lesson here (free for InvestComics readers). One way to always tell if something is not working out is by the way things look….literally. When a set on a late show is constantly changed, it means producers are looking for a fresh look, change things up because it’s not working out too well. Getting new advertising dollars in or keeping the current guy in is the game. New look, give us money! After a while, that marketing ploy runs its course and eventually bye-bye. DC comics has changed course how many times now with Superman’s costume, Wonder Woman, etc. It shows the chaotic means to maximize the dollar for them. We all see by the reaction to most fans that change isn’t always a good thing. Not a bad thing either by any stretch, but do it too often and you lose your audience (money). Maybe a case in point with the new Angela Asgard’s Assassin #6  issue. Angela gets a new costume. Already? How many times will this happen before readers don’t care anymore? Readers don’t care now! Marvel might be, not saying this as fact, might be trying to renew interest in a character that they just brought over to their universe because fans are tired of Angela already and sales are down? Maybe. Either way, who cares really?! New costume for Angela, enjoy the read.

Click on the RED links or comic cover to buy/bid on Ebay right now.

…..And DC continues their marketing plan with more Convergence comics. As said almost each week here why we think this is a big marketing campaign for DC. In short, many characters and groups are being brought back from obscurity. Why? Maybe to test the waters to see if they have the potential of monies to be made on new product. Pure speculation here. Let’s get to the Convergence titles…..

Starfire Starfire oh how bright you will shine. This is an exclusive poem from InvestComics. We hope DC will pay us royalties once they use it. Starfire will shine very bright when her solo comic arrives. Expect big things with storytelling and the aftermarket when it hits. This week in Convergence Green Arrow #2, Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palimotti will write a Starfire backup with art by Emanuela Lupacchino. This will be the exact creative team that will work on the ongoing Starfire series next month. This comic will be the first Starfire from this team, not the number one issue next month. So when the number one issue is exploding in the aftermarket as it will (please credit InvestComics when acting as though you knew it would), Convergence Green Arrow #2 should go along for the ride right? So a few things here. Buy Convergence Green Arrow #2, buy DC Comics Presents #26 (1980 – First New Teen Titans and Starfire) and buy Starfire #1 next month. And more thing, just for the record, artist Emanuela Lupacchino is the real deal. She flat out brings it. Watch out for her!

Thor_8_InvestComics_variantConvergence Batman Shadow of the Bat #2 will bring back the original Wetworks team from the Wildstorm days. That was fun back then. Wetworks first appeared in WildC.A.T.s: Covert Action Teams #2 (1992). And the rest of your Convergence titles; Convergence #6, Convergence Aquaman #2, Convergence Catwoman #2, Convergence Green Lantern Parallax #2, Convergence Justice League International #2, Convergence Suicide Squad #2, Convergence Superboy #2, Convergence Supergirl Matrix #2, Convergence Superman Man of Steel #2.

FLASH GORDON #1 Continues the Thrilling Adventures of Sci-Fi Icon, Courtesy of Jeff Parker, Evan Shaner, and Jordie Bellaire

January 20, 2014, Mt. Laurel, NJ:  Dynamite proudly announces that writer Jeff Parker (Batman ’66) will continue the science fiction thrills of a science fiction legend in Flash Gordon #1, a new ongoing series illustrated by Evan “Doc” Shaner (Deadpool) and featuring the colors of Jordie Bellaire (Pretty Deadly).  Slated to debut in April 2014, Flash Gordon marks the 80th anniversary of the fictional icon, follows Parker’s critically acclaimed Kings Watch miniseries, and includes beloved cast members Dale Arden, Dr. Hans Zarkov, and the infamous Ming the Merciless.
“Dynamite and editor Nate Cosby have put together the dream team for Flash Gordon, and I’m the lucky writer who gets to work with them,” says Jeff Parker.  “We’re bringing Flash back for a new audience.  It’s over-the-planet high action and adventure where Flash’s spirit and optimism are as powerful as anything the forces of Ming the Merciless can dish out.  We also have some of my favorite artists contributing covers – make no mistake, this book is going to absolutely kill!”
The new Flash Gordon series places the ultimate sci-fi hero on the bizarre planet Mongo, where his thirst for thrills and danger makes him the perfect weapon against world-breaking Ming the Merciless and his awful inter-planetary swarms of terror.  Can the cocksure Man From Earth funnel his overconfidence into saving worlds, or will the universe fall to Ming?
Dynamite has assembled a team of three highly respected creators for the new Flash Gordon series, individuals whose recent comics work has made their names instantly recognizable to fans.  Writer Jeff Parker’s recent successes at DC Comics – including Aquaman and the retro-chic Batman ’66, follow his many years as a contributor to Marvel titles including Agents of Atlas, X-Men: First Class, and Hulk.   Evan “Doc” Shaner will bring his kinetic visual style seen in Deadpool and Ghostbusters to the Flash Gordon project, just as Jordie Bellaire will bring the coloring flair she’s known for on such titles as Pretty Deadly, Captain Marvel, and The Rocketeer.
Flash Gordon #1 will feature a wide selection of cover variants, presented by some of comics’ most talented artists:  Gabriel Hardman, Jonathan Case, Declan Shalvey, and Marc Laming.  Stephen Mooney provides a special 80th Anniversary Cover, illustrated to capture an aesthetic of the bygone golden era, while Ken Haeser provides a cute Subscription-Only Variant Cover of “Li’l Flash”, intended as a reward for dedicated fans who preorder with their local comic shop retailers.  A Blank Authentix Cover will be created for the first issue, featuring blank white space on the cover perfect for convention artist commissions or the creative whims of the do-it-yourself fan.
Comic shop retailers are invited to create store-specific cover editions, as well:

  • Dynamite has designed a “Death to Ming” propaganda-style cover as a Retailer Exclusive Variant Cover, available for retailers to order through Diamond Comics (Item Code FEB141156).  Numerous retailers can share the “Death to Ming” artwork, but have personalized store names built into the front cover design.
  • Dynamite also welcomes the opportunity to develop unique Retailer Exclusive Variant Covers featuring artwork not available anywhere else.  Stores may contact Marketing Manager Keith Davidsen (, 856-312-1040 x114) for more information.

Flash Gordon #1 will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors’ February Previews catalog, the premiere source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release on April 9, 2014.  Comic book fans are encouraged to reserve copies of Flash Gordon #1 with their local comic book retailers.  Flash Gordon will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, iVerse, and Dark Horse Digital.

Marvel To Launch ALL-New MOON KNIGHT Series Written by Warren Ellis

New York, NY (Nov. 22, 2013)  — This coming March, Marvel Comics will illuminate the dark recesses of the Marvel Universe as it launches a new monthly Moon Knight series by award-winning and critically acclaimed writer Warren Ellis (Iron Man: ExtremisAstonishing X-Men) and the outstanding artistic team of Declan Shalvey and Jordie Bellaire (Venom; Deadpool). Moon Knightwill continue the Company’s popular All-New Marvel NOW! initiative with an all-new #1 that will be sure to redefine the mysterious vigilante and solidify him as one of Marvel’s most extraordinary heroes.

This gritty and bold era of Moon Knight’s history is orchestrated by Warren Ellis, who promises to introduce readers to the dark corners and unspoken fears of the Marvel Universe.

“The touchstone for this book, for me, has been ‘Weird Crime’.  Both ground-level action and high strangeness,” says Warren Ellis, in an interview with “This is a take on Moon Knight that unifies all the previous takes, making the character whole and taking him forward into a new kind of crime fiction.”

“Moon Knight is one of Marvel’s most underrated characters we have and with ‘MK’ back in New York City, the book is going to be a reflection of its environment: filled with darkness, secrets and super heroes,” says Series Editor, Stephen Wacker.
