We all love Jim Lee right? Heck, InvestComics had an entire Creator Spotlight on Jim Lee right HERE from 2015. Why are we talking Jim Lee? Well, it’s because Marvel has this bright idea of the ‘Jim Lee Card Covers’ campaign and they’re……well…..very underwhelming. They show their 90’s age and we get it, but not when we know what we can truly get from Jim. We’re not being a Debbie downer, we’re being honest (which we have always been). Take a look at the Champions, Daredevil, AvengersIron Fist, SpiderMan, X-Men Gold card covers and you tell us different. Not from a fanboys perspective, but a true gauge. Very retro and not feeling it. The All-New Wolverine #22 card cover is the standalone that wins us over. If there are more Jim Lee card covers coming, we hope they become more appealing.

The very successful Punisher Kills The Marvel Universe #1 spawned a number of copycats as well another very successful ‘Marvel kill book’; Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe #1. Now Marvel goes back to the well and makes Deadpool do it all over again in Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe Again #1. We don’t make this stuff up, or the titles, we report on it. Written by the awesome Cullen Bunn and art by Michael Walsh.

The new Spider-Man Homecoming movie comes out next week. It will have the Vulture as Spidey’s main adversary. Spider-Man: The Master Plan #1 is a new story where Spidey does battle with The Crime Master. It also has a bonus reprinting of Amazing Spider-Man #2 in it. Yes that one, the first appearance of the Vulture. See, we came full circle there. Writer Robbie Thompson and artist Nathan Stockman.
InvestComics informed readers a long while ago about a silly Marvel character name Slapstick. Right after informing our loyal fans, the first appearance went from a 50 cent comic to a ten dollar book. After we brought up that Slapstick could be a breakout character, he was announced to appear in a cartoon. Then his own series came out. Now he makes his second appearance within the Spider-Man/Deadpool series (Spider-Man/Deadpool #3 his first) in this Wednesday’s Spider-Man/Deadpool #19. The ‘One More Day’ rip from Joe Quesada is lovely. Kudos to Will Robson for this. Spider-Man/Deadpool #19 will be a two-part story with the trio Spidey/Deadpool/Slapstick. Slapstick #1 (1992) is the first appearance of this ridiculous character and $10 can snag him for your collection. And so what, we think Slapstick has more upside, who would have ever thought a talking raccoon would make any sense. Written by Joshua Corin and art by Will Robson.

We usually don’t cover any of the Marvel ‘True Believer’ comics, they are reprints, but we have a certain love for that Spider-Man #1 True Believers (original) Todd McFarlane cover, so we mention it. That’s it. Thank you for your attention.
Star Wars #33. 33 is our favorite number. No reason to mention this awesomely written series otherwise.

InvestComics Deathstroke Checklist -Click Image

Deathstroke #21 will be a major turning point for the character. For the first time ever, Slade, A.K.A. Deathstroke, will don a cape and wear a new costume. He’s a superhero now. No more an assassin for hire. He brings with him a new superhero team that debuted in the last issue. This issue though, the NEW Deathstroke joins his NEW team. Writer Christopher Priest brings the new hero to life, as artist Diogenes Neves brings the new visual.
It seems DC Comics cannot print enough Batman #24 comics. The ‘Marry Me’ issue hits its third printing this week.
Part two of ‘The War of Jokes and Riddles’; Batman #26. Written by Tom King. Illustrated by Mikel Janin.

InvestComics Indie Hot Picks;
Sacred Creatures #1 (Image Comics). Writers Klaus Janson & Pablo Raimondi (artist). A 66 page debut.
A subtle, but yet a keen comic fan will see the cover swipe (homage) right away with Ash vs The Army of Darkness #1. Pasquale Qualano honors the Jurgens/Breeding Superman #75 (Death of Superman) cover.
It’s hard to believe the Archie Comics character Sabrina was introduced almost 55 years ago and her father and mother were first introduced in 2007. Crazy right? Sabrina the Teenage Witch #89 (2007) is the issue we are speaking off. This week, her daddy, Edward Spellman makes his sixth ever appearance in Sabrina #7. We get his origin story. 55 years later. It comes with a spectacular Moritat cover too.

Red 5 Comics has peeked our interest with After Eden #1. Adam and Eve need to start over and fall in love again. The human race depends on it. Brought to us by writer Scott Chitwood and artist Rod Thornton.
Kim & Kim Love is a Battlefield #1 (Black Mask Comics). The girls are back in this four-part series. Writer Magdalene Visaggio and artist Eva Cabrera.
Hanazuki Full of Treasures #1 (IDW). The debut and origin of Hanazuki. Written by David Mariotte and art by Nico Pena.

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 2/19/14

The New Warriors will make their triumphant return this week in New Warriors (2014 5th Series) #1. The series is on its fifth volume and maybe the fifth time is a charm? Well the original series from 1990 did last 75 issues, then the 1999 series went to 10, then in 2005 they made it to 6, then in 2007 they made it to 20 issues. So what does this all mean? Well it basically means the obvious right? Don’t expect a big run from this team. Although stranger things have happened, but one thing is for certain, this series will start off on absolute fire. Its best as a speculator to jump on this early and reap the most out of the market before the series begins its inevitable freefall. So where to start? Well for starters you should have Thor #411 (1989) in your collection by now; the first appearance of the New Warriors.  This very easy obtainable issue can be found anywhere at any time. The New Warriors (2014 5th Series) #1 features High Evolutionary. His first appearance is in Thor #134 (1966), an issue written by Stan Lee with art from Jack “King” Kirby. Thor #134 features a stunning 6 first appearances including High Evolutionary. A must book for your keepsake collection.

Four variants accompany the new release. The most bang for your buck will be either the $65 or $125 variant. Get either one CGC signature series’ (9.8) and flip them. Do it while the iron is hot though because as previously mentioned, the series will probably cool off quite a bit sooner rather than later.

Staying on topic with the New Warriors, the leader of the group Nova may have an intro of a new character in Nova (2013 5th Series) #13. It also features Beta Ray Bill. Another one of those comics that should be in your stash, but just in case; The classic Thor #337 (first appearance of Beta Ray Bill). Check it out.

Here’s the bottom line with the New Warriors folks. If there is success with the Marvel Cosmic Universe release of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, look for an expansion within that realm for Marvel. InvestComics has been saying it for years now, but the cosmos awaits the Marvel film universe and if it hits big, it’s going to be huge, Star Wars big. Rocket Raccoon will be the modern day Yoda with a serious chip on his shoulder. Marvel will seek to expand of the cosmos and will probably take a look at either Nova or the entire New Warriors team. More likely Nova here, so be on top of this.

Justice League (2011) #28 will have to be checked out for the same reason Nova #13 is getting looked at. A possible intro within the pages, have a look.

Jamal Igle will be pulling art duties on an all new Terminator book; Terminator Enemy of My Enemy (2014 Dark Horse) #1. Jamal is a talent, must check on this comic.

Undertow (2014) #1 from Image Comics will be sold out soon. Be sure to possibly jump on this comic for some aftermarket goodness.

Speaking of aftermarket goodness, check out X-Files Conspiracy Teengage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) #1. There will be a regular priced variant cover from Michael Walsh and a $25 variant from Joe Carroney. Get these CGC signature Series from both Eastman and David Duchovny; you will have paper Gold my friend.

More aftermarket goodness lies in Savage Dragon #193. The cover sports the “1st issue bold new direction” nonsense, but it’s the $10 variant that can produce some nice payback for you. The variant cover is a team-up of Erik Larsen and Todd McFarlane. Get the both of them to sign this cover (CGC Sig Series) and you have yourself a nice CGC book to resell.

Other number one comics to check out this week are Iron Man (2012 5th Series) Annual #1, Nancy Dragon In Hell One Shot (2014) #1, Loki Ragnarok And Roll (2014) #1, and White Suits (2014) #1.

….And finally, Dynamite Entertainment’s follow up this week to their successful hit series; Bad Ass (2014 Dynamite) #2.

Invest wisely.

Carpe Diem.

Chris Carter to executive produce X-FILES: SEASON 10 at IDW.

IDW and Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products Announce Creative Team and Direction for THE X-FILES
Chris Carter returns to Executive-Produce “Season 10”

San Diego, CA (March 3, 2013) – Fans of The X-FILES and the paranormal exploits of Special Agents Mulder and Scully are in for a treat! Today at Emerald City Comic-Con, IDW Publishing and Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products announced the creative team for their upcoming comics based on the legendary television series. The entire project will be executive produced by THE X-FILES creator Chris Carter, who is returning in an active role to help steer his characters back to the forefront of popular culture once again. THE X-FILES: SEASON 10 will be written by Joe Harris, writer of the acclaimed series Great Pacific, with art and colors by the Comeback team of artist Michael Walsh and colorist Jordie Bellaire. Issue #1 will feature covers by Dave Johnson, Joe Corroney, and Carlos Valenzuela, along with a classic photo image of Mulder and Scully. “It was already an incredibly exciting prospect to tell stories set after the second THE X-FILES movie, especially after Joe Harris worked up such a great plan in that regard,” said Chris Ryall, IDW’s Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief. “But my excitement level went off the charts after a meeting with Chris Carter, where he agreed to come aboard and executive produce our Season 10. In much the same way Joss Whedon steered our Angel: After the Fall series, Chris has graciously returned to do the same here. What do THE X-FILES look like in this increasingly paranoid and untrusting post-Wikileaks era? Well, they look like canon to me… and come June, the rest of the world will be able to see it for themselves, too.” In the opening story arc, “Believers,” readers will catch up with Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, living normal lives together under secret identities. However, a visit from an old friend threatens to rip them from suburban anonymity, as they learn that someone is preying upon everyone involved in THE X-FILES. Prepare to revisit familiar faces—some very unexpected, threats old and new, and an intriguing mystery designed to return the beloved franchise to its former glory! THE X-FILES: SEASON 10 launches this June when fans everywhere can enjoy a new supernatural experience.
THE X-FILES: SEASON 10 #1 (FC, 32 pages, $3.99). In stores 6/19/13
