LAZARUS #1 STRIKES A NERVE, SELLS OUT

LAZARUS #1 STRIKES A NERVE, SELLS OUTFirst issue of new Image Comics series by Rucka and Lark gets second printing
lazarus01_cover

The first issue of LAZARUS, the new dystopian Image Comics series by Greg Rucka and Michael Lark, has sold out the day of its release. Called “absolutely riveting, complex and stunning” by Comic Book Resources, LAZARUS #1 is immediately going back to press. The second printing will be in stores on July 24, the same day as LAZARUS #2.

The story of Forever, an apparently-immortal young woman, who was created as a lethal bodyguard and enforcer for the powerful Carlyle family, LAZARUS is set in a society that is at once highly futuristic and regressively feudal. Concentrated wealth and technological knowledge has put a few families in control of the lives who those who work for them, and Forever’s job is to maintain her family’s hold on power.

As writer Rucka recounted in interviews at the New York Post and Beyond Chron, Forever’s story and society was influenced by the Occupy Movement’s concern about economic inequality. While gratified at the new series’ success, Rucka is hesitant to ascribe political motivations behind the success of LAZARUS, though he does feel the comic speaks to people’s present experiences.

“I’m not sure I’d claim that we’ve hit a particular chord or social note, but I do think Michael and I are talking about — at least as backdrop — a scenario driven by some very real-world concerns,” said Rucka. “Not that we’re all headed to a genetically engineered future, or that the economic situation will become as dire and dark as we’ve painted it; but the fact is, we’re living in a very unstable world, and economic instability is part of that, despite recent gains. I have friends who are worried about where their next meal is coming from, whether or not they’ll be able to fill their gas tank, never mind their concerns for their future and the future of their children. That’s our reality right now, and it doesn’t take much imagination to extrapolate that to its worst.”

LAZARUS has received soaring reviews upon its debut:

“Mysterious, sleek, and hard-hitting; this is a first-rate page-turner from two of the finest creators working today.”

MTV Geek

“Masked in science fiction, but inspired by the devastatingly increasing amount of lack in the world, Rucka and Lark have begun an important story. With haunting images and a compelling narrative — I am certain that Lazarus will take its place among the ranks of the comic elite and lay waste to the rest.”

Newsarama

“It’s difficult to make dystopian science fiction stories fresh these days, but “Lazarus” pulls it off beautifully, showing more depth in its first issue than many stories in the genre do by the time they’re done.”

Multiversity Comics

“Lazarus #1 embodies everything I want in a comic book: dystopian near-future, hard sci-fi, badass female protagonist, contemporary social and political themes, blistering action, a touch of pathos, art that makes me feel like I can smell the cordite and taste the dirt. All this is to say, right out of the gate, the book is basically perfect.”

The second printing of LAZARUS #1 is available for pre-order now (MAY138228).

InvestComics Hot Pick – Single Issue – Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen #134 – Darkseid

Darkseid ThanosThe new Super Man of Steel movie has brought in over $210 million already. As you read this article that number is probably steadily climbing. With this success for Warner Bros. comes the next phase. WB has already announced that they will be green lighting Superman Man of Steel 2 and Justice League of America, both slated for 2014 and 2015 respectively. Just how realistic is this time frame to get these 2 movies done inside of 2 1/2 years? Highly unlikely, but the wheels are turning here and the comic book collector world needs to be on their collective heels.

When, not if, but when the Justice League of America film is in its infant stage we will soon find out that there is only one place to go with this movie. One place, meaning one villain and that villain will be Darkseid. As vast as the DC Universe is, there is simply no “one” villain other than Darkseid to cause an entire team some headaches. Marvel on the other hand has a few to choose from, but it is no surprise they are going with Thanos. Darkseid and Thanos have always seemed to be linked to one another. Darkseid’s debut came in 1970; Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen #134. Thanos’ first appearance came only 3 years later in Iron Man #55. So although Marvel was 3 years late to the party with their version of Kirby’s creation Darkseid, they are several years ahead on the big screen. This will in fact change. Well not a fact, but a confident level here to say that Darkseid will be the nuisance for the JLA team. So where will Darkseid appear? Man of Steel 2? Will Warner Bros. change course (Extremely likely) and make more lead up films before Darkseid appears? Flash? Wonder Woman? Green Arrow? Red Tornado? What characters will have their moment in the sun before the Justice League movie? One thing is for certain though (InvestComics speculation of course) Darkseid will play a major part in the lives of our heroes.

JLA Darkseid

Over the years InvestComics has recommended countless comics to pick up. Some were good, some were okay, and some never panned out. If ever there was a time for you not to second guess anything, this would be that time. Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen #134 will absolutely explode in due time. InvestComics cannot emphasize enough how important and UNDERVALUED this comic is right now. Here’s another reason why this comic should be in your possession. The amount of graded copies on this comic is absolutely staggering, staggering because there are only a total of 189 of them graded. Only TWO hold the 9.8 spot while 11 hold a grade below. You can shop Ebay right now and find a 9.6 copy for $899 or get a Fine copy at only $125. This comic will double and triple in price once the Darkseid is named to appear as the go to villain. By comparison Iron Man #55 (Thanos’ first appearance) has a 1067 graded copies on the CGC Census. 37 at the 9.8 spot while 75 occupy the grade below. Big difference here huh? Who is the villain in need of Batman Superman Darkseidsome attention here? That would be Darkseid, and boy is he going to get some.

Besides Darkseid’s first appearance there are some other books that he has appeared in that are also very undervalued that command your attention. The first of those comics are the Justice League of America’s #’s 183 – #185. When the JLA movie comes to fruition, it is “said” that THESE comics will be the storyline to the movie. Get these comics all day in Fine condition on Ebay for $10 a pop. Well worth the condition and money spent. Watch as Warner Bros. makes the announcement about Darkseid, these Fine copies you hold will go tenfold easily. The funny thing here is that the creator of Thanos; Jim Starlin, yeah that guy, he was the artist on 2 of the three covers!

Although Darkseid has been wreaking havoc on the DC Universe for more than 4 decades, ready for this? He has made ONE, that’s right ONE appearance in the Batman comic. Batman #702 to be precise. It took exactly four decades for Darkseid to make it into the pages of a Batman book. Hard to believe isn’t it?? So pick that comic up while you still can. Those will be disappearing before you know it.

Legion of Super-Heroes Darkseid

Okay while we’re at it, how about Superman? How many times do you think Darkseid has made his way inside a Superman ONLY titled comic? Hundreds? No. 50? No. 20? No. 10?? No. How about 4 times at last count?! Superman #419 and #666, Superman Vol. 2 #3, and Superman Vol 2. #173. Unbelievable right??

New Gods DarkseidEarly appearances that need to be picked up include Jack Kirby’s Forever People #1 & New Gods # 1 and New Gods #2. One of Kirby’s last DC work came in a form of a graphic novel. 1985’s Hunger Dogs had his creation Darkseid in it. Legion of Super-Heroes #’s 287, 293, and 294 are comics that need to be in your collection sooner rather than later. Important storylines with Paul Levitz and Keith Giffen at the helm.

Darkseid appeared alongside Marvel a few times. John Byrne’s Darkseid vs. Galactus: The Hunger, George Perez’ Avengers/JLA (how fitting is that?), Walt Simsonson’s The Uncanny X-Men/The New Teen Titans.

And lastly, watch for Darkseid to make an appearance during DC’s Villain month.

Gotham_Central_1There are two sure fire hits this week and should not be missed. Lazarus (2013 Image) #1 comes highly recommended from Shaun Cobble (Breaking the 4th Wall) and Brianna Floss (InvestComics reviews – Bri’s reviews will be on InvestComics tomorrow. Be on the lookout for that!)). Shaun made sure to message me after reading this comic to inform me that Lazarus #1 needs to be an InvestComics’ Hot Pick this week. I ensured him that it was to appear anyways, but between Shaun’s raving and what Brianna’s words “ Rucka’s writing is top-notch, while Lark and Arca’s gorgeous art perfectly captures the fractured nature of the world and its inhabitants”, as well as a 10 out of a 10 rating, yes this solidifies that Lazarus #1 will be well on its way to an instant sellout and command some cash in the aftermarket. The Lazarus creative team of Greg Rucka and Michael Lark also brought readers Gotham Central from 2003. They have had success together already, and it looks like they hit their mark once again. Uncanny (2013 Dynamite) #1 will be the other book to look out for this week. Brianna gives this comic a 9 out of a 10. “…a fun ride” says Brianna, so strap in readers! The roller coaster is about to begin on sellout levels with two independent comics this week.

DC goes back to the well on Wednesday. The very successful, highly touted run of Superman/Batman from 2003 will begin its new run this week, this time staring the new 52 Supes and Bats. It’s their first meeting in the new 52. Writer Jeph Loeb/Ed McGuinness really took the 2003 series to a whole new level, as will writer Greg Pak and Jae Lee for the latest installment. Look for a more “emo” type run here. The cover itself seems very dark, as the inside will probably invoke the same. This isn’t a bad thing, just a change of pace from the previous series for sure probably. Demand will exceed supply, so be prepared for a second print announcement coming soon after Wednesday.

Larfleeze (2013 DC) #1 will star in his own comic this week. If you don’t know yet (you should), Lar’s first appearance was in Green Lantern #25 (2008). The great standalone Superman stories continue in Adventures of Superman (2013) 2nd Series #2 from some of the industry’s top talents. This week Oeming, Joelle Jones, and legend Sal Buscema show off their Superman tales.

Captain America (2012 7th Series) #8 reveals a character set for return that no one would ever imagine coming back. Please surprise us Marvel! Scarlet Spider (2012 2nd Series) #18 asks the question; who is Red Death? Let’s all read it and find out! And finally from the House of Ideas, Wolverine and the X-Men (2011) #32 we meet the new Hellions.

Kiss and WolverineUncanny X-Men #173Godzilla Rulers of the Earth (2013 IDW) #1 will be more Godzilla fun. IDW has the giant monster in a good place. They actually have created a fan base for this dude! Good job IDW! A couple of fun cool books to also check out this week are Atomic Robo and the Savage Sword of Dr. Dinosaur (2013) #1 from Red 5 Comics and Malevolent Mr Burns (2013 Bongo) #1.

A great cover this week from IDW’s Kiss Solo (2013 IDW) #4 Inadvertently pays homage to a famous Wolverine run pose pictured to the right. It also resembles Uncanny X-Men #173 a bit too. Awesome Peter Chris cover though! IDW kicking some ass.

That’s it for this week. Be sure to sign up for the InvestComics Newsletter!

HOTTEST New Comic Hot Back Issues During early June 2013

Top 90 Hottest Comic Titles during June 1-15 2013 – list by Terry Hoknes of HoknesComics.com

HotComics2013JuneLogo

This list is compiled from my non-stop research of the current market.   I believe these were the most demand and growing in value books this month.     I did not focus on variants specifically as I can’t even keep track of them all.    If you think I have missed any titles please let me know.  I am updating this list every 2 weeks.  You will be amazed at how much can change in one month good and bad.

Summer is here and there is really no major changes in the industry for hot titles except the addition of a couple new recent books that sold out and have quick gains – The Last Of Us and Six Gun Gorilla.   What we see is mostly a continuation of interest in the same books but mostly at a reduced price.   I expect this will stay true for the next 5 months but the big question is will prices and interest pick up again for these books in the fall.   Some fear the speculation boom of 2012/2013 has peaked and is now over.  It is possible however there will always be certain books that go up in value in any time period simply based on supply and demand.

Here are my picks of what I believe are the hottest comics at this very moment from all sold releases of the last few years online based on back issue sales ABOVE cover price.

#1 INJUSTICE GODS AMONG US (DC) – the only hot DC title small print runs and 3rd prints selling out.  Peaked in May at $85.00 for set of #1-4      Many sellers with reprint sets that also sell well.   #1 2nd printing hit $12.00   #1 $40 #2 $25 #3 $8 #4 $5 #5 $4

#2 THE LAST OF US (DARK HORSE) – New title on the list.  #1 sold out – tie-in to video g ame.  1st print up to $20 and 2nd print at $7.00.  #2 1st print at $7.00.  Top two comics are both based on video games!

#3 THE WALKING DEAD (Image) #108 1st app Ezekiel and #110 origin and battle of Ezekiel with Michonne.  All back issues #1-110 are sold out and bring above cover prices.  #92 and #93 extremely hot at  $30.00 each.   Retailers upped their orders yet again starting with #109 onwards after the sellout of #108.  This is the highest print runs have ever been (not counting #100).

#4 PETER PANZERFAUST (Image) #1-9 prices peaked in March.  #8 and #9 really hot but less demand for #4-6.    #1 hit high of $300 now around $200.00   Current prices #2 $60 / #3 $20 / #4-7 $10 each / #8 $20 / #9 $20

#5 NOWHERE MEN (Image) #1-3 prices had peaked at $40,25,15 in March.    Set of #1-5 now sells for $60.00   #1 $30 / #2 $20 / #3 $10 / #4 $3 / #5 $3

#6 RACHEL RISING (Abstract) #1-16     TV announcement this week helped drive demand up as Diamond sold out of even the current issue not yet out this week.  #1 hitting $200.00 peak around May 1st.   Many issues still available direct from publisher website at cover.   #1 settled down now to about $70.00.    Sellers hyping rarity of 2nd and 3rd printings and getting high amounts as well.

#7 THE SIXTH GUN (Oni) – all 29 issues sold out – many not even on ebay and low print runs.  sold a #1 for $250 in Mid April.  #1 now at $90.00

#8 EAST OF WEST (Image) #1 Hot as a pre-seller and has stabilized at $7.00.   4th printing already and sets of #1-2 sell well.

#9 SIX GUN GORILLA (BOOM) New on the list.  New #1 issue of mini-series based on golden age character quickly sold out and selling at $10.00 within a week of release.

#10 SAGA #1-12    #1 still super hot at about $80 down from peak of $100 – all issues in demand even with high print runs.  #12 was hot for a moment when banned by Apple.

#11 BATMAN #1 5 7 9 – sold out issues averaging $20.00 each and #1 sells for $50.00.  Complete sets of #1-10 bring $150.00.  Batman is the #1 selling regular monthly comic book these days and it is the most valuable “complete set” of all current titles.

#12 HAWKEYE #1-10   The only hot back issue Marvel title with all issues in multiple printings.  #1 now settled at about $25.00.   Almost every issue has been reprinted.  New issues still sell out.

#13 ADVENTURE TIME – animated cartoon series – numerous printings now.   #1 is truly rare – no sellers on ebay even have a copy for sale.   $50 to $100 per copy of #1 first print.  #2 currently in the $20-30 range.  #3 $10.  #1-6 have been reprinted with connecting cover image.   #1-6 and #9-10 sold out from diamond.

#20 UBER #0-1-2    Sold out both printings instantly.  Future is unpredictable – more speculators than readers bought this.  Some amazing variant covers make it a big job to collect every cover version of each issue.   Almost all copies and printings are $8 or higher.    #0 has a 2nd printing called “enhanced edition”.

#21 MIND MGMT (Dark Horse) #1-10   #1 is really the only valuable issue at $40 but easy to sell sets at $80.  Very low print run.

#22 THINK TANK (Image) #1-5.  #1 sold out immediately and no one seems to have a copy.  2nd printings are more common.  #1 1st in the $15-20 range.   News of a new movie broke this week which might push prices up.

#23 NIGHTWING #4 (DC) 2012 – hot key issue from this Robin/Batman series.  $25.00 for this key issue.

The most unsurprising, obvious, anti-climactic comic book to hit shelves in years will be coming at us this Wednesday Age of Ultron (2013 Marvel) #10. And in a polybag?!! Marvel for real here?? Here’s the scoop for those living under a rock for the past couple of months (spoilers coming). One, Neil Gaiman is the co-writer on this issue and two, Angela; from Image Comics makes her debut in the Marvel Universe. If the cat is out of the bag, why are we getting this comic on the shelf in a polybag?? So fans cannot thumb through it to see what they already know? Maybe, just maybe Marvel has another surprise in store for us? Hopefully so, because if not this is all extremely lame. Sorry Marvel, but you dropped the ball on this one. Speaking on the topic of lame, Spawn #9 (which everyone on the entire planet owns) is the first appearance of Angela. Why is this lame you may ask? Well for one, this comic came out during the height of the Todd McFarlane Spawn frenzy, so there are bazillion copies of this book out there. It was 1993, the beginning of the end for the speculation market. Don’t believe it? Here’s some healthy numbers (not good collector numbers) to throw at you. How about 371 total graded copies of Spawn #9?! How about 231 of those graded at a 9.8?!! How about 37 signature series books, with 20 of those sitting in the 9.8 spot? No upside here folks, sorry. But, here’s a big but (get your mind out of the gutter), with the talks of Marvel saying they want a strong female lead to star in her own movie, would they actually go with Angela?? Stranger things have happened. Even then, a strong spike would occur upon that news only to level off quickly because of the supply here. Do not get caught up on Spawn #9, meaning do not pay a premium. There are simply too many Spawn #9’s sitting out there.

On the complete opposite side of the spectrum here we have Ultimate Spider-Man (2011 3rd Series) #24 and 100 Bullets Brother Lono (2013) #1 this Wednesday. The opposite side of the spectrum is in regards to the graded territory. The 100 bullets character Lono first appeared in 100 Bullets #5 in 1999. In a much lower print run, this comic has a total of 6 graded comics. 1 at the 9.8 point and 3 signature series coming in at the 9.8 mark. Yes, understood that there is no demand for this comic to the likes of Angela, but what if, what if Warner Bros. branches out and starts bringing some of the awesome Vertigo titles to the big screen or television? There are so many amazing stories sitting in the Vertigo archives it’s an absolute surprise that WB or television hasn’t visited that well as often as they should. But IF and when they do, THIS; 100 Bullets will be tapped. A Showtime announcement from 2011 has never come to fruition, but don’t be surprised when it comes back to life along with other Vertigo titles.

The Power Pack team are set for their first appearance in the Ultimate Marvel Universe in Ultimate Spider-Man (2011 3rd Series) #24. Unlike 100 Bullets #5, Power Pack’s first appearance print run is more than that of bullets. But this shouldn’t deter the collector from still snatching this comic up! Here’s why. First off, Power Pack is based on a kid team right? What better time than the present to get a kid team off the ground and running to a possible cartoon later on? Why not, it’s possible right? Marvel and DC have proven that their cartoon series’ are successful; this would be a no brainer if Marvel hits it with Power Pack. Want more collector nourishment? How about that there are 40 total graded Power Pack #1’s (1984) and a bit top heavy at 20 in the 9.8 range? 7 signature series books, with one in the 9.8 spot. Although the top heavy 9.8’s are a bit of a turn off, it’s still early in the game as they say. Many collectors can find the first appearance of Power Pack sitting in the 50 cent bins at their local comic shop or comic convention. Do not sleep on these kids…kids. Why would Marvel be bringing them back if they didn’t possibly have a plan in place for them? It could be a long shot you’re right, but at 50 cents apiece, what’s to lose right?

Recorded AttacksZombies are amuck once again in the comic universe. This time with Extinction Parade (2013 Avatar) #1. Writer Max Brooks, THE Zombie guru of all zombie guru’s is about to unleash his zombie fest on the comic book genre. Max’s first (and only!) stint in the comic book zombie world came in 2008’s Recorded Attacks from Avatar press. Comic Broker Report – Collecting Brandon Graham

Brandon Graham is one of my favorite indie artists of the last ten years.  He represents a unique style that stands out in a medium where it’s notoriously difficult to  do so.  If you haven’t seen his work  before you are in for a treat.  He has done shorts, pin-ups and even writes for one one of Images best comics!

This Simon Roy cover is the best of the bunch and even harder to find than the variant.  The fact that Graham has resurrected one of Image’s most forgettible characters shows that he is as diverse a writer as an artist.  It is an excellent sc-fi romp that fans shouldn’t miss.

Multiple Warhedz 2008

Wolf War III ended almost 50 years ago and now you get to enjoy the aftermath!  This rare comic sell for big money whenever it comes up on Ebay.  People who collect Graham’s work know this and make it really hard to find cheap.

Sizzle Magazine

128105_20080512070304_large

Brandon did a number of works for the Erotic mag “Sizzle” but the one you want is issue 18 for the first Multiple Warhedz!   Finding these are impossible by the way.

Dark Horse Presents Vol 2 #7 ( Mignola Cover )

240483_20111221120839_large

There are two covers but I like the Mignola one.  This series has other gems and due to glossy covers NM copies are much more difficult to locate.

October Yen 1-3 and the Ashcan

All three issues of Brandon’s first work are the definition of collectible comics.  Supposedly there is an ashcan too but I have never seen it.

Graham doesn’t work for DC and as far as I know this is either his only DC work or one of the few.

Universe So Big 1-2 ( Radio Comix )

I couldn’t even find quality files for this rare 2 part series.  Good luck.

The Image 2010 Convention Yearbook

215932_20101204202155_large

A few months ago I recommended this convention special for two reasons: a rare Walking Dead cover and it just so happens to be the first appearance of the Nowhere Men ( Invincible 19 is a concept issue ).  Now I can safely say that Graham’s addition makes the trifecta.

Brandon has also done many Anthologies like 24 Seven, Stray Moonbeams, MDHP 2, Pillow Fight, Escalator, Side B, Popgun and Meathaus!

Comic Broker Report – June 2013

The Comic Broker’s Report June 2013

By Topher Seal

Nothing Special this month, just a mixed bag of comics to hunt for throughout the summer.  Until the Bruins win another cup I will be awaiting the release of the Man of Steel.  Let’s all hope that Zack Snyder channels his Watchmen instead of another Sucker Punch otherwise he may just kill the franchise once and for all.

Action Comics 471

Once a forgotten Phantom Zone resident, Faora has made the improbable leap to the silver screen.  With a movie that is already getting praise from critics,  it is possible that she may be one of the film’s best character adaptations. ( She was sentenced to 300 years for killing many men! )

471-1

Rise of Apocalypse 1-4,  X-Force 37, Marvel Graphic Novel 17, X-Men Alpha

So the list of mutants to appear in the time traveling sequel to the most recent X flick just keeps on expanding.  First appearances of Warpath and Blink haven’t seen increased sales as of yet,  but with the addition of the AOA character Blink we may get a glimpse into the alternate reality fans love so much.  Now we all know that X-Factor 5,6 will be the key books concerning Apocalypse but there are others…

Rise of 1-4 gives us the origin of En Sabah Nur,

X-Force 37 is also a key concerning his origin,

18985_20120921022016_large

The Marvel GN 17 is actually his first appearance,

48409_20060702221305_large

X-Men Alpha is the first appearance of the AOA Apocalypse

marvel-x-men-alpha-issue-1c

Dark Horse Presents 1 (  Paul Pope Variant, First 300 Sequel )

Again, this  rare variant with a cover by indie icon Paul Pope features a sneak peek at Frank Miller’s sequel to 300.  Xerxes takes place before, during and after the event of 300 and is currently being adapted by Legendary studios.  The first film was a massive hit and generated big sales for the 6 issue series.  Expect the same here.

225971_20110422025305_large

X-Men Poster Magazine & X-men 37 2nd print ( First Blink )

Similar to the AOA  Apocalypse appearance mentioned above, Blink has an AOA first appearance also and it’s not in X-Men Alpha.  I have also mentioned Uncanny 317 as the first appearance of Blink but issues 37 of the X-Men series came out the same month and like that issues has a more rare 2nd printing.

128525_20080514081355_large

Game of Thrones 1 ( Limited 1 for 75 Virgin Variant Cover by Mike Miller )

This season cemented Martin’s epic series as one of the most popular ( and well written! ) fantasies of all time.  Don’t believe me?  Data shows that the finale of Season 3 was the most illegally downloaded show ever.  The comic issues from Dynamite are getting harder to find especially the variants.  This one is the gem of the bunch.

2011-09-20-gameofthrones01-cov-miller-vr

Clint 1 ( First Kick Ass 2 )

This over-sized magazine from Mark Millar ran its course some time ago but that doesn’t mean it’s worthless.  There are plenty of reasons to buy most issues especially the first.  Kick Ass 2 hits this summer and if it’s as successful as the first film look for this mag to heat up.

clint1

The Comic Shop News 1257 July 2011 ( Game of Thrones )

I have researched all of Dynamite’s offerings prior to the release of the Game of Thrones original series for a printed preview of the series and found nothing.  The only appearance or preview of the comic adaptation is in this issue of the Comic Shop News which are always tough to find.

Star Wars Dark Empire II ( Newsstand and Gold Variant ) & Star Wars The Last Command 1

Rumors surrounding the sequels are sure to create a frenzy in the collectible market over the next few years.  If the Solo twins make it into the film look for these books to go berserk on the back issue market.

star-wars-dark-empire-ii-05-of-6baf40a6d-1fd5-45cc-999c-38a2f1b48ee6

The Last of Us American Dream 1 of 4

Once again, I rarely recommend Video Game adaptations, especially mini series but I am making an exception for this wonderful comic.  The game looks amazing and issues 1 and 2  are pretty tough to find already.

Superman will be making his return to the big screen this Friday June 14th. This movie will be either the beginning or the end of the DC Universe on the big screen as we know it. It must do well in order for Warner Bros. to justify bringing aboard the rest of the DCU. If the movie fails to meet expectations, fans of DC will have a long wait before they ever see another character from their library take to the screen. If it exceeds expectations (which I think it will), we all get to enjoy the start of something bigger. The Justice League of America? Flash? Wonder Woman? Nightwing? Who knows what could come next, but something WILL be next because the Man of Steel will single handily bring the DC Universe to the next level. So why didn’t the recent Nolan Batman movies do this with the successful run it’s had you ask? Simple answer, because Superman is Superman and not Batman that’s why.

….And now the Superman Checklist.

The following list is a quick guide as there are MANY Superman comics that will be left off this list (not by choice, but a simple miss). Please do not hesitate in writing below some of the books that you may deem important.

The InvestComics Superman Checklist Special will list only comics from the Action Comics/Superman/Adventure Comics series’ as well as some team-up books. Enjoy, remember to have fun and as always, invest wisely.

Well maybe not, but way to go!

Superman #53: 10th anniversary issue, origin retold.

Superman #59: The first time Superman uses his heat vision.

Superman #61: The rumor abound says that there will be no Kryptonite in the Man of Steel movie. This issue is the origin and first look at the green rock.

Superman #249: First Terra Man.

Superman #254: Legend Neal Adams Superman art. Iconic cover.

Superman #264: First Steve Lombard creative work.

Superman #292: Lex Luthor origin retold. A nice (affordable) way to get a hold of an early Lex origin.

Superman #300: Superman origin retold. An anniversary issue and same as mentioned previously about Lex.

Superman #656: Arion returns.

Superman #657: First Khyber appearance.

Superman vol.2 #73: Listed as another first Doomsday cameo.

Superman vol.2 #75: The Death of Superman. Boy oh boy was this comic a big deal back in 1992. The Death issue here isn’t worth as much as it was back in 92 (a’la Death of Captain America), but still a nice comic to have (in the plastic bag). A significant price difference occurs with the Death of Superman Platinum edition. The Platinum edition fetches about $40 more.

Superman vol.2 #204 (penciled cover): The previous issue #203 is Jim Lee’s first Superman pencils on his Superman run, but it’s this iconic cover that is very gets all the attention.

Adventure Comics

Adventure Comics #167: The first Lana Lang as Supergirl.

Adventure Comics #210: First appearance of Krypto the Superdog! A graded 9.0 is in the $10,000 range. That’s a lot for a first appearance of a dog no?

Adventure Comics #283: The Man of Steel movie will bring the villain Zod back to the screen since Superman II with Christopher Reeve. This here is the first appearance of Zod. Kneel to Zod!

Adventure Comics #286: The debut of Bizarro.

Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?

Some may argue (not many) one of the greatest Superman stories ever told was by Alan Moore. The comic is called “Superman: Whatever Happen to the Man of Tomorrow”.

BEST SELLING COMICS in a world without DC and Marvel

ComicsBestSelling2013May

BEST SELLING COMICS in a world without DC and Marvel – report by Terry Hoknes of www.HoknesComics.com

Marvel & DC have always dominated the market and basically you could say “own” the comic industry.   So lets analyze the best selling comics WITHOUT any Marvel/DC titles included.   This will give us a better perception of how well the other publishers sell and what titles and characters actually compete with Marvel/DC sales numbers.   After reading this chart you may have a new appreciation for the smaller publishers who bring a wider and unique variety of titles to our comic shops each week.

MAY 2013 best selling comics chart.

Lets erase the 79 DC and 74 Marvel titles and see what the “other” best selling comics were!

Only 9 comics ranked in the Top 100 and these are the 9 high profile comics of the month that truly had a buzz.

Walking Dead returned back to #1 yet again.  Ten Grand #1 from Image had a super strong showing with 2 different regular covers.  The power of Star Wars is continually strong as sales hold steady on #5.   Regular Show #1 had 6 regular covers which helped print orders making Boom’s biggest selling comic ever.   Girl power was strong yet again with My Little Pony #7.     The original creator of TMNT returned to the comic after many years creating a “first” of sorts.  This boosted sales way up the list.  Charismagic had a high print run as it was priced at only $1.00 Image Bounce #1 had decent orders but very small compared to Ten Grand.   The hype of the very first Sesame Street comic ever encouraged all retailers to really take a chance on this one based on the 1970 TV series with 5 different regular covers.  6 of the 9 comics ranked high due to being a “first” of sorts.

Only 9 comics made the top 100 but 60 made the top 200 showing that there is a lot of support for indie publishers but mostly in the 10,000 to 20,000 range whereas Marvel/DC average orders are double that.

APRIL 2013 best selling comics chart.

Lets erase the 74 DC and 74 Marvel titles and see what the “other” best selling comics were!

Only 10 comics ranked in the Top 100 and these are the 10 high profile comics of the month that truly had a buzz.

Jupiters Legacy was the most impressive debut in a long long time as the new Image #1 had orders over 100,000 even outselling The Walking Dead.   Saga continued strong as Image’s second biggest constant seller.  Star Wars #4 continued strong steady orders.  East Of West #2 from Image even sold out and went to a reprint.  Jirni from Aspen had very high orders due to a $1.00 cover price.  My Little Pony stayed strong once again with 2 different series.   Buffy #20 had extra high orders at 21,000 and Adventure  Time from Boom continued to be its biggest selling title based on the TV cartoon series.

Only 10 comics ranked in the top 100 of the month but a high 66 made the Top 200.

FEBRUARY 2013 best selling comics chart.

Lets erase the 73 DC and 77 Marvel titles and see what the “other” best selling comics were!

Only 11 comics ranked in the Top 100 and these are the 11 high profile comics of the month that truly had a buzz.

The Walking Dead held the top 2 best selling comics of the month.   Saga and Star Wars both kept their usual high rankings.  My Little Pony ranked 2 issues as well in the top 10.  Shadowclan ranked really high due to having a $1.00 cover price.  Image’s extremely popular mini-series Happy ended in the top 10.  Hellboy In Hell continued to rank very high as did Buffy both from Dark Horse.   The cartoon series Adventure Time continued to be the best selling title for Boom Comics.

11 comics made the top 100 but a huge 67 made the top 200.

JANUARY 2013 best selling comics chart.

Lets erase the 84 DC and 85 Marvel titles and see what the “other” best selling comics were!

January was a rough month for all the indie publishers with only 6 comics ranked in the Top 100 and these are the 6 high profile comics of the month that truly had a buzz.

The Walking Dead held #1 as usual.  Saga in 2nd place also as usual.   Invincible celebrated a #100 anniversary which boosted sales dramatically.  Star Wars #1 from Dark Horse had a strong debut but due to extra media publicity sold out instantly and went up in value hitting $40.00 in the first week.   Buffy from Dark Horse and Adventure Time from Boom continued to rank high month to month.

6 comics made the top 100 but a decent 53 made the top 200.

There’s a movie coming out this Friday, something about this dude from Krypton, his planet is about to become dust, sent to earth to live amongst man as an extraordinary being, raised by ma & pa because his parents are dead ……oh wait, that’s not the movie coming out this Friday. Yes the Man of Steel will come this Friday with a different twist on things. As we can see from the trailer and many spoilers around the net, Supes biological daddy is still very much alive throughout this movie. Maybe because it’s Russell Crowe? Remember how much of a bad ass he was in Gladiator? He’s a tough dude! (Soapbox time coming up! MY opinion, so calm down, this is America and we are allowed to have opinions) There are many other plot lines swirling around that I will not get into here, but here is the bottom line folks. Deal with it. Quit the fanboy stuff and just deal. So what there is a movie with an iconic character that no longer wears red underwear, but now wears an armor suit. So what that it looks “darker” than the character you knew for most of your adult life. So what he doesn’t sport the curl in his hair. So what, so what, so what. Just handle the fact that things will be different now and accept it. Change is good, it’s healthy. What were some people expecting exactly? The same mundane Superman movie that we have seen film after film? I for one welcome that change, always will. It’s good to think outside the box and not stay tucked away in that safe place. Breakout! Good for Zach Synder (Director) for taking a different approach to a stale character. So bring it Warner Bros. because this is your LAST shot at possibly ever producing that Justice League of America movie most of us are waiting for. This movie will define the rest of the superhero genre for DC/WB moving forward. If it does well, then the fun is just beginning!! If it does okay, subpar, tanks, then the likelihood of ever seeing Batman and Superman sharing the screen together may and probably will never happen. So kick some butt Superman, the DC Universe is counting on you!!

This week in conjunction with the Man of Steel release, DC Comics will bring the new Superman title Superman Unchained (2013 DC) #1. This is a big deal folks. It will be a well scripted series (hopefully) as well as a well-drawn one. It brings together two big guns to the table; Scott Snyder and Jim Lee. No explanation or kudos needed here really, except that Scott has brought the Batman title to new heights and Lee brought Superman to another level a few years back with his artistry of the character, too much of the delight of fanboys everywhere. Many fans remember Lee’s Superman run beginning in issue #203 (pinups) or even the iconic second print of #204, but it was a year prior that Lee first penciled Superman in Action Comics #800. The New Superman era is beginning (again) this Wednesday, except it.

Another iconic character gets a makeover job from the aforementioned writer that promises to change your thinking on Superman. Scott Snyder will forever change the way we think of Batman (try to) in Batman (2011 2nd Series) #21 “Zero Year.” The NEW origin of Batman begins here. Most of us will always have the vision of Bruce’s parents lying in some alleyway dead with little Bruce between them. Just like we know that Krypton blew up and there were no survivors. Those idea’s (origins) will never change in our minds. They’re embedded in there. But for the sake of rolling with things here, excepting that change is a’comin, there isn’t much fans can do about any of this. DC wants to do this and they will. Stop your whining.

….And the last of the Scott Synder books this week is American Vampire The Long Road To Hell (2013) #1. We all love vampire’s, we all love Scott, but a $6.99 price tag for a one shot may keep some away.

DC throws out an origin issue of a He-Man character named Hordak; Masters of the Universe The Origin of Hordak (2013) #1. DC really is pushing this He-Man stuff huh? Anyway if you interested, Hordak’s first appearance is in He-Man and She-Ra; Secret of the Sword (1984). It was a freebie comic from Mattel toys.

Guardians of the Galaxy (2013 3rd Series) #3 pays respect to the Wolverine #1 (1982) cover by Frank Miller. No significance here, other than that the issue will lead up to “another” Marvel event (yawn). Steve McNiven rocks the Rocket Raccoon cover. Check out the side by side in the slideshow. Awesome stuff! Also from Marvel, Venom (2011 Marvel) #36 will introduce a new character. That’s always an alert!

A hoard of number one issues to definitely check out this week. Bubblegun (2013 Aspen) #1 looks like a lot of fun. Big Dog Ink continues their great books and Serusis (2013 Big Dog Ink) #1 is their latest offering. Thumbprint (2013 IDW)  #1 will be a sleeper, don’t miss this. Ehmm Theory (2013 Danger Zone) #1 looks very interesting. Dark Horse brings Breath of Bones A Tale of the Golem (2013 Dark Horse) #1 (awesomeness) and True Lives of The Fabulous Killjoys (2013 Dark Horse) #1 this Wednesday. It’s said that monkey’s and or gorilla’s on a cover of a comic book sell well, so BOOM! Studios deliver’s guns and monkey’s this Wednesday; Six Gun Gorilla (2013 Boom) #1. Lovely! Independent publisher Danger Zone; Ghost Town (2013 Danger Zone) #1 should be checked out. The Crow’s latest installment from IDW and James O’barr; Crow Curare (2013 IDW) #1 comes out.

Finally, the InvestComics love affair with the X character from Dark Horse continues this week with the second issue; X (2013 Dark Horse) #2. Don’t sleep on this character. It’s going to the next breakout for Dark Horse.

How does Diamond calculate the charts? It all starts at the comic book shop.

Data for Diamond’s sales charts — which include the monthly market shares and all top product charts — are compiled by Diamond Comic Distributors from a universe of over 3,500 comic book specialty shops located in North America and around the world. The account base includes brick-and-mortar comic book specialty shops, Internet merchants, and other specialty stores.

Unit and dollars sales are calculated based upon orders invoiced and shipped to Diamond accounts during any given month, which comprises initial pre-orders, advance reorders, and reorders, minus any copies that are received back from a title marked as returnable.

InvestComics Hot Pick: Single Issue – Jackpot #4

Welcome to the very first “InvestComics Hot Pick: Single Issue” article. This quick Hot Pick article will focus on “A” comic book that needs your immediate attention because of breaking news or a possible explosion in the aftermarket……..or whatever else that may warrant a quick Hot Pick article!

InvestComics reported on Archie Comics coming to life on the big screen for the very first time after 72 years of stories! This news is a true milestone for the Archie Comics house. Congrats! Click right HERE for that press release; “Archie Comics Movie Announced.”

Jackpot #4 – This book is one to keep a serious eye on as it is seriously undervalued in our opinion at this time. First off, this rare book features Archie Andrews first cover appearance. This book was released the same month as Archie’s appearance in Pep Comics #22 (listed as the first appearance, but INSIDE the comic, NOT the cover). It is also the first appearance of Ms. Grundy. The CGC Census only notes 20 copies of Jackpot #4 certified. Both comics released in the same month with one that has the first Archie cover. Jackpot #4 is a very solid buy right now.

Invest wisely.

Comic Broker Report – Collecting Fables

Here’s a quick one for all you speculators out there. It looks like rip-offs, Once Upon a Time and Grimm won’t deter the makers of Harry Potter from adapting Bill Willingham’s masterpiece into a film! That’s good news for those folks who hoarded early issues of the series. Here’s a quick list of the one’s I would invest in:

Fables 1,1A

In 2002 DC’s Vertigo took a chance on a comic with a fresh concept. Popular with fans, issues 1-5 aren’t that easy to find these days.

Note: There are also two reprints of issue 1. The 25 cent version is also worth buying as it could see gains in similar fashion to the Walking Dead reprints.

4988_20051110183236_large 59944_20060827091031_large

Fables 6b

This  DC RRP variant  is one of DC’s most collectible comics from 2002. Super rare and sure to see a big bump from recent film rumors I say buy if you ever get the chance.

126460_20090521111119_large

American Century 15

DC’s Vertigo imprint is famous for previewing upcoming comics and projects in the back of their issues. For certain comics that can mean real value down the road. Comics like Preacher ( Previewed in two comics! ) or 100 Bullets ( see Transmetropolitian ) can become very rare. The problem for Fables-no preview anywhere. So if you need to own all Fables related material, track down this forgotten Chaykin comic which features an interview with Fables Creator Bill Willingham. It was released prior to issue 1 of the series!

25208_20060120171711_large

Codename Knockout 12

This wonderful series was popular enough that back issues are not easy to come by. Again there was no preview for Fables but if you want the first in print appearances of major characters look right here!

Diamond Previews March 2003 ( Fables Flip Cover )

Are you looking for the first Fables cover? Check this flip cover from Diamond. I couldn’t locate a pic of the flip cover anywhere though.

Fables 75

This over-sized issue has a few things going for it other than a sick cover and the conclusion to War and Pieces-Eric Powell art!

Warp 8

If you didn’t know that Bill Willingham was around long before his hit series then go find this issue of Warp from First Comics, his first pro work!

56343_20060905135838_large

Fairest 1 ( Retailer RRP Variant Cover by Adam Hughes. )

Another rare RRP issue for this Fables spin-off features the Women of Fables! It is both collectible and well written.

Merv Pumpkin Head: Agent of Dream GN

I’m not going to say much about this amazing GN written by Fables creator Bill Willingham. Just go buy it and enjoy.  Trust me!

Archie Comics Movie Announced

Archie

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: ARCHIE COMICS MOVIE ANNOUNCED
Warner Bros. Pictures to produce a live action Archie movie

New York, NY – Archie Comics is proud to announce that Warner Bros. Pictures will be producing a live-action Archie movie based on the Archie Comics characters. This is the first feature film starring the Riverdale gang in the publisher’s 72 year history.

Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) will direct a script by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (MGM’s Carrie, The Town that Dreaded Sundown), who is hot off writing Archie Meets Glee, the highly publicized comic book crossover with the popular FOX TV series on which Aguirre-Sacasa serves as writer/producer. Aguirre-Sacasa will also be penning the forthcoming zombie series Afterlife With Archie that was previously announced by Deadline in March.

Roy Lee and Dan Lin will produce, while Jon Goldwater, Krishnan Menon, and Jon Silk will serve as Executive Producers. Details on the story reveal it will be a “high school comedy based on the original line of Archie Comics set in present day Riverdale”.

“We are thrilled to be working with Warner Bros. on this project and have complete faith in their ability to bring Archie to the big screen in a way the fans will love,” said Archie Comics Publisher/Co-CEO Jon Goldwater. “Having Roberto write and Jason direct is Archie’s ‘Dream Team.’ Also, without Dan, Roy, Krish, and Jon, we could not have made this happen.”

“Jason [Moore] and I have been friends for a long time, and this is a complete passion project for everyone involved, ” Aguirre-Sacasa said, “Archie is the ultimate teenager and this movie will be the ultimate teenage movie-in the grand tradition of Sixteen Candles and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. We are so grateful to Jon [Goldwater] for inviting us to this dance.”

ABOUT ARCHIE COMICS:
Archie Comics is the leading mass market comic book publisher in the world and the home to a wide array of the most popular humor, action-adventure and superhero characters in entertainment, including Archie, Jughead, Betty and Veronica, Reggie, Kevin Keller, Josie and the Pussycats, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, The New Crusaders, The Shield, Li’l Jinx and many more. Straczynski adds SIDEKICK to his JOE’S COMICS imprint at IMAGE

THIS SIDEKICK IS ON HIS OWN IN NEW IMAGE COMIC

Latest Joe’s Comics by J. Michael Straczynski title takes flight in August

For three years, flying, nigh-invulnerable teenager Barry Chase was Flyboy, sidekick to the imagination-impaired but crime-fighting master The Red Cowl, and all was well, though Flyboy was the butt of a lot of jokes. Together, The Red Cowl and Flyboy brought peace to Sol City, fighting for truth, justice and some third goal that the Red Cowl could never quite put his finger on but was sure he’d figure out in time. But then the Red Cowl was defeated and killed — some say by the villain Terraform, others by one of the Moonglow sisters — and Flyboy was left on his own. It is at this point that SIDEKICK, the latest J. Michael Straczynski comic from Image Comics, begins.

The first issue of the second title from Joe’s Comics to be published by Image (TEN GRAND debuted in May to presales of nearly 70,000 copies), SIDEKICK, will be in stores on August 7 and is drawn by Tom Mandrake and Brian Miller, with a limited-edition variant cover by Charlie Adlard (THE WALKING DEAD) that will debut at San Diego Comic-Con, taking place on July 17 – 21.
SIDEKICK tells the story of nineteen-year old Barry, a.k.a, Flyboy, in the aftermath of his mentor’s death and his decision to continue his crime-fighting career, even though no one takes him seriously — not the good guys, not the bad guys, nobody. Any attempt Flyboy makes to improve his image backfires, and soon, unloved and unsupported, he descends into darkness.
“Sidekick is designed to turn the usual superhero tropes upside down,” said writer Straczynski. “Flyboy’s gradual disintegration into madness and crime is fueled by his desperate need for approval. His downward spiral slowly drives him to the dark side of the law, where he begins an affair with the villainous Moonglow Twins, who one night whisper something to him about the fate of his mentor that he could never have imagined possible. That secret may be the key to Flyboy’s redemption, or his damnation, giving him something to live for… and maybe, just maybe, something to kill for.
“Having worked extensively in the world of mainstream superhero comics for the last decade-plus, you are subtly informed that there are all these things that you can’t do to your main character, all these accepted rules for guys in spandex. The fun in Sidekick is in doing every one of those things that you’re never supposed to do.  We’re going to spend a lot of time just beating the crap out of Flyboy until he finally snaps…and then the fun really begins.”
SIDEKICK #1 will be in comic book stores on August 7, and a special, exclusive edition will be available in limited quantities at Comic-Con International in San Diego from July 18-21, where Straczynski will be a special guest of Image Comics. It can be pre-ordered now from the June issue of Previews.

DC Entertainment Announces Villains Month, FOREVER EVIL, and More!

044.DCC.DdshotFC.1.0Following the events of this summer’s crossover “Trinity War,” a dark shadow will be cast acrossthe DC Universe.

This September, all of the DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 titles will be replaced by Villains books. What happens when the heroes of the DC Universe fall and there’s nobody left to stop the villains from taking over? Find out this fall during Villain’s Month, which will spotlight 52 of the DC Universe’s biggest rogues in their own one-shots.

“September has always been a big month for us and we look for an opportunity every year in September to do something big that really redefines the line and invites anyone who hasn’t been following comics to step right in,” DC Entertainment Co-Publisher Jim Lee explained. “We launched the New 52 with all-new continuity and new costumes, Zero Month was all about origins of our heroes, and now the villains are taking over. One of the strengths of the DC Universe has been the strength of the rogues gallery. Often times they’re as famous – if not more infamous – than 034.DCC.JokerFC.1.0our heroes.”

And what’s more, each Villains Month cover will feature a 3D motion image on the front and back!

“We’re also commemorating this event by doing something really unheard of, I think, as far as a major publisher – we’re actually adding a special cover on every single villain’s book. It’s called a 3D motion cover and it’s essentially artwork that’s been separated onto different layers, so when you hold the cover, which is a premium stock cover, and you slightly rotate the comic book left or right or up and down, the images move a bit,” Lee continued.

“It’s an incredible 3D effect that shows depth of field on the covers,” added DC Entertainment Co-Publisher Dan DiDio. “It’s the full cover stock, so it’s not anything that’s been glued on. More importantly, it’s actually pliable and soft to the touch – it’s a brand new technology and we’re going to be the first ones debuting in this fashion.”

040.DCC.CntVrtFC.1.0September is also the launch date for FOREVER EVIL, the seven-part mini-series by Geoff Johns and David Finch that sets into motion this first New 52 universe-wide crossover event.

“FOREVER EVIL is a chance for David and I to work on all the greatest villains in comic books,” Johns said. “It’s literally everybody. I don’t even know if there’s anybody not in it. We’re really exploring what darkness means and the different kinds of darkness that are within these villains.”

As for the art of FOREVER EVIL? Finch went on to say that he has “more of an affinity for villains than heroes. I have a really dark art style and the tone of this is so exactly where I’m coming from.”

So with writer Geoff Johns out of the Green Lantern picture, DC is shaking things up already. Check out what new Lantern writer Robert Venditti is doing in Green Lantern (2011 4th Series) #21 this Wednesday. Hal Jordan takes center stage! And just in case you missed it, InvestComics did happen to land an interview with Robert about 3 months ago. You can check that out by clicking right HERE.

DC’s Batwing series will reveal the NEW Batwing in Batwing (2011) #21. Not only is this a cool thing, but it sports the best Batwing cover of its 21 issue run so far. The cover is done by Ken Lashley.

Astro City (2013 3rd Series) #1 will be a quick sellout this week. DC will not only bring Astro City back to the comic book world, but will make this an ongoing as well. It will also introduce the fans to some new characters as well, so some first appearances to look for in here. Astro City originally came out in 1995 from Image Comics. Kurt Busiek was all over that as he is in 2013. Don’t sleep on this third series attempt to get this Astro City thing going. Third time is always a charm.

Lee Weeks has to be one of the industry’s most underrated creators out there today. He’s been around this comic book stuff since the 1980’s. But his name never seems to come up in many conversations. Lee weeks’ most notable work is on Daredevil. So with that, Daredevil Dark Nights (2013) #1 this Wednesday showcases Lee’s Daredevil artistry talent. This man is boss with the Daredevil character. His first crack at Daredevil was in Daredevil #284 (1990), where he remained the regular artist for over 2 years. Yes, Lee was doing something right! Next time you see him at a convention, tell him he’s boss and that InvestComics said so too.

Anyone like Mark Millar or John Romita Jr.? How about some Kiss-Ass? Check out the “last ever” Kick-Ass story arc from these two starting this Wednesday. Kick-Ass 3 (2013 Marvel) #1 will be it folks! That’s it! No more after this! Well maybe until the next big payday comes up in a few years, but still.

So not in the mood for some Kick-Ass? How about a Bad-Ass then? Thanos Rising (2013) #3 is the baddest villain in all of Marvel and he will prove his worth in some serious bloodshed this week. Be sure to check out Thanos ripping people new….urr…yea, beating people up real bad.

Borrowing from the shock value of titles from our friend Jeff Kaufman (Whore), Zenescope brings us Screwed (2013 Zenescope) #1. Will it be as good as Whore? By comparison, neither one of these books have anything remotely close to being alike in anyway, but let’s see if Screwed #1 lives up to the billing of Whore. Antarctic Press is attempting to bring the horror genre back in Macabre (2013 Antarctic Press) #0. Should be an interesting to see how fans take to this. And rounding out this week we have Herobear and the Kid Special (2013 Kaboom) #1. Looks like fun!

Be sure to SHARE this article and let us know (proof/link) that you have done so to WIN a Walking Dead autograph from Michael Koske!
