Marvel Comics still refuses to put the Fantastic Four back together in a comic book due to their little beef with Fox, but with the recent “almost acquisition” of Disney taking over the Fox Studios (characters), things will and could change rather quick. With that, in perfect synchronicity, Marvel joins TWO of the FOUR in Marvel Two-In-One #1 this Wednesday. Torch and Thing star. Writer Chip Zdarsky and artist Jim Cheung. The original 4 getting together again is not that far behind, especially with the new deal so close. As for the Marvel-Two-In-One series. The original series debuted back 1974 starring the Thing in every issue. Much like the Fantastic Four series, the series waned on (early issues) without much fanfare (except the Byrne run). The highlight of the 1974 Marvel-Two-In-One series came in Marvel-Two-In-One Annual #2 (1977). Thanos’ death, Avengers appearance, Spider-Man appearance, Infinity Stone and a Jim Starlin cover.
Loki is still Sorcerer Supreme and Doctor Strange is having all kinds of problems trying to contain him. In Doctor Strange #383, Strange summons for help when he goes to Asgard. Marvel wants to surprise us with the guest star; Loki: Sorcerer Supreme part 3.
Ms. Marvel #25 begins a new story line; Teenage Wasteland part 1. Creators; G. Willow Wilson and Nico Leon.
A new X-Men series; X-Men: Grand Design #1 from creator Ed Piskor.
The secret origin of Jagger Rose in The United States of Murder Inc. Annual #1. Creators; Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming.
Spider-Gwen #27 continues the hot Gwenom story; Gwenom part 3.

Writers Peter J. Tomasi and Patrick Gleason, along with artists Doug Mahnke and Jamie Mendoza bring the first two parts of a multi-crossover on new comic book day; “Super Sons Of Tomorrow.” The four-part story will take place in Teen Titans, Super Sons and Superman. With this creative firepower on-board, we’re looking forward to this mini-event, you should too. Superman #37 (part 1) and Super Sons #11 (part 2).
Trinity #16 sees Deadshot making an unexpected appearance. The Phillip Tan Deadshot cover is on point too. As always, the case with a Phillip Tan cover.
Aquaman #31 may introduce some new character(s) at the beginning of a new story arc; “Take Back the Throne” part one or throughout the story. Keep an eye out if you’re looking for new players. Dan Abnett writes, art by Stjepan Sejic.
“Superfriends” part 2 from Tom King and Clay Mann; Batman #37.

InvestComics Indie Hot Picks; Indie comics do not always show up on Ebay right way. Please check back on a regular basis, some of the smaller print indie books usually list after new comic book release day or a few days after.
Valiant Entertainment explodes out of the gate with their new Quantum & Woody #1 release this Wednesday. A few ultra-rare variants accompany the release, but it’s the super variant cover comic known as “The Most Variant Cover Of All Time” that gets our attention. According to Valiant, this comic will feature chromium, lenticular, embossing, die-cutting, iridescent ink, glow-in-the-dark and more. The cover will be by artist Clayton Henry. Besides the greatest marketing variant cover of all-time, the new Quantum & Woody on-going will be the best indie title to hit this week. It will be a title to follow thereafter. Written by Daniel Kibblesmith and art from Kano.
Mike Mignola and Adam Hughes deliver fans a new Hellboy story; Hellboy Krampusnacht #1. Mignola and Hughes? Oh heck yes, we are so there.
Writer Steve Niles and artist Ben Templesmith revisit their hit series from 15 years ago with the release of 30 Days of Night #1 (IDW).
Backways #1 from Aftershock Comics. Creators Justin Jordan and Eleonora Carlini.
Assassinistas #1 (IDW) creators; Tini Howard and Gilbert Hernandez. Look for this unusual, upside down, whacked out story to be of interest to comic readers on Wednesday.
Summit #1 (Lion Forge); creators Amy Chu and Jan Duursema.

A new Defenders comic that correlates with the Netflix television show debuts this Wednesday. The same line-up that appears on the show appears in the comic. Defenders #1, written by Brian Michael Bendis and art by David Marquez.

Mary Jane will be back in the spotlight this week. Check out most of her cosplay outfits she dons on some of the Marvel covers within this article. As we said last week, maybe, just maybe one of these silly MJ cosplay becomes a Marvel Universe reality, in which case one of these covers would be her unofficial/official first appearance. Of course we need to point out this is pure speculation and has a slim chance of ever coming to fruition, but we like to give fans/collectors a heads up of the possibility of something like this happening. MJ Deadpool? That’s kinda neat. We really wouldn’t visit this idea if these covers weren’t so darn good. All or most of them will make our Best Covers Of The Week post. We suggest you take a look at that article when it hits for the cover credits.

InvestComics Indie Hot Picks;
As we have done here time and time again (and been correct), we inform collectors that the new Aftershock comic coming out will sell out by the time you reach the end of this article. This week it’s Jimmy’s Bastards #1 from the amazing writer Garth Ennis, with art by Russel Braun. About a UK super-spy. A modern day take on some other spy we all know. Will this, can this be a film one day? We like to think so, but the name hampers it a bit from a lot of the political correctness these days. Who knows really? Thing is, this has the potential of movie or television status.
Scout Comics follows up their debut hit comic Mindbender; Mindbender #2. James Pruett writes, Federico De Luca art.

InvestComics Hot Picks – June 6, 2012

LIKE InvestComics on Facebook right HERE

InvestComics You tube Page HERE

Follow InvestComics on Twitter right HERE

Welcome to the InvestComics Hot Picks 6-6-12.

This week we get to really scour the back issue bins at our local shop or convention. Check it out….

Marvel’s Hulk #53 is the first on the list with 4 different comics to look for. These comics though are in no way hard to find! The new storyline brings in Alpha Flight, Machine Man, She Hulk and A-Bomb. The most nostalgic of the 4 here has to go to Machine Man’s first appearance. You can find that in 2001: A Space Odyssey #8 from 1977. Why the nostalgic label? It’s a new character Introduction written and drawn by Jack “King” Kirby. Do you need more than that? Good, because that’s all you need. Alpha Flight first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #120. John Byrne brought this team to life in their own self-titled book and Alpha Flight will continue to live on in some form for a very long time. If ever Marvel gets the guts, this team would make for a fabulous movie. She Hulk appeared in HER self titled comic as well back in 1980; The Savage She Hulk #1. While John Byrne wasn’t on the debut issue, John also had a hand in bringing THIS character to life as well! Last but not least, A-Bomb first appeared in Hulk #2 from 2008. The most loathe or loved Jeph Loeb had his paws all over this comic. And very cool cover from Ed McGuinness on this one.

DC Comics brings in new artist Miguel Sepulveda to Red Lanterns #10. Check out one of Miguel’s first professional work in Thor God Size #1.

Swamp Thing #10 re-introduces the villainous Anton Arcane to the New 52 fold. Anton originally appeared in the Swamp Thing series from 1972. Issue #1 was the cameo as issue #2 was the “full” first appearance. Never will understand the ridiculousness of cameo and full as it is related to collection standards within the resale market. The cameos are usually less sought after while the full first appearance gets all the accolades of demanding more money. The cameo essentially truly is the FIRST time we ever see a character, so why would the SECOND time we see them be worth more? Well, this is a debate for another time…….

Action Comics #10 focuses on the villain Nimrod, another of DC’s new 52 villains that will be re-introduced. Nimrod’s (silly name no?) first appearance is from 1992 in Batman: Shadow of the Bat #7.  This lovely issue is written by Alan Grant with art from Tim Sale. That’s nice stuff.

That’s it for the back issues. Should be enough to hold you over for a week no?

Marvel’s Dark Avengers #175 is being dubbed the 1st issue of a new era. With a spectacular cover from Mike Deodato that screams BUY ME! Wow if ever judging a book by its cover, right? Tron #518, actually Iron Man #518 introduces a new costume into Tony’s repertoire. With all of the recent talk on the Marvel Cosmo’s on InvestComics lately, it’s no surprise that The Mighty Thor Annual #1 wouldn’t be mentioned this week. Guest starring Silver Surfer and Galactus! And look at that cover too!

Independents will be overtaken this week by Spawn #220. Not because of the 20th anniversary tag, not because Todd McFarlane is back, not because this issue will begin the introduction of new characters, not because it will bring back some old characters, no no…..because there will be no room on the shelf for any other comics. 6 variants at last count. Ahhh….Todd always thought big.

In single issue releases this week, if there is room for them on the Independent wall. Check out Creator Owned Heroes #1 from Image. With names like Jimmy Palmiotti, Steve Niles, Justin Gray, Phil Noto and Kevin Mellon attached, this is a must check out book.

Higher Earth #1 from BOOM! Studios. Only a buck to buy! And it looks like an interesting book.

Check out some covers of the week below.

That’s it for this week, see you soon!

Invest wisely.

Byrne and Wrightson strike again!

Byrne and Wrightson strike again!

John Byrne and Bernie Wrightson both return with new series!

[Trio Image]San Diego, CA (March 2, 2012) – IDW Publishing is ecstatic to announce new projects from legendary creators JOHN BYRNE and BERNIE WRIGHTSON! This May, Byrne will be smashing into stands with a brand-new, creator-owned superhero series, TRIO. TRIO follows the exploits of three super-powered heroes known as Rock, Paper, and Scissors on a series of explosive adventures!

Along the way, beloved inkers who have finished off Byrne’s pencils in the past will be inking variant covers for the series, starting with “Joltin’” Joe Sinnott on issue 1, and Byrne’s Silver Surfer/X-Men: The Hidden Years cohort Tom Palmer on #2.

“Trio really is Byrne’s return to superheroic form,” said Chris Ryall, IDW’s Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief. Ryall will be editing Trio himself. He added that “fans who’ve loved Byrne at all stages of his career, from his beloved and influential superhero comics to his more recent work with us on Star Trek and Next Men, will love what he’s bringing to bear on this series.”

[Frankenstein Alive, Alive Cover]In FRANKENSTEIN ALIVE, ALIVE! Wrightson teams up with one of his greatest collaborators, STEVE NILES to continue the legacy of one of his greatest works. This sequel to Wrightson’s acclaimed 1983 illustrated version of Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley’s Frankenstein was scripted by Niles and will feature Wrightson’s inimitable brushwork in addition to heaps of engrossing supplemental material like interviews, essays, and a serialization of Shelley’s original work.

And just to show how thrilled we are about these new series, IDW is throwing its full weight behind TRIO and FRANKENSTEIN ALIVE, ALIVE! and making each debut issue fully returnable for retailers.

“Both Byrne and Wrightson are not only legends in the comics field,” Ryall said, “but they’re also doing work here that stacks up nicely alongside their very best comics from the past, and we want retailers to know we stand behind these books in a big way. Hopefully the returnability of the issues really speaks to how strongly we feel about these books being a good bet for comic shops.”

This May, join IDW in welcoming these iconoclasts back to genres they helped define and experience time-tested comics greatness firsthand!

Visit IDWPublishing.com to learn more about the company and its top-selling books.

Wrightson and Niles Forge Frankenstein Alive, Alive!

All-new series extends horror classic

[Frankenstein Alive, Alive Cover]San Diego, CA (July 21, 2011)—Today at San Diego Comic-Con 2011, IDW Publishing announced an [Interior Art]all-new horror series with acclaimed creators Steve Niles and Bernie Wrightson. FRANKENSTEIN ALIVE, ALIVE will launch in 2012, picking up right where Mary Shelley’s classic tale ends.

“This is an idea that’s been rattling around somewhere in the back of my mind for a good many years,” said Wrightson. “I mentioned it to Steve and we started talking. In about two minutes I realized that not only were we on the same page, we shared a vision. I’m very excited to see this finally happening. It’s going to be lot of fun.”

A lifelong Frankenstein fan, Wrightson’s work on this monster has garnered universal praise for over 25 years. Now, Wrightson and Niles are collaborating on the next chapter in the life of Frankenstein’s monster. FRANKENSTEIN ALIVE, ALIVE turns this classic tale around, by telling the story from Frankenstein’s perspective in this 13-issue series.[Interior Art #2]

“The fact that I grew up worshipping Wrightson’s Frankenstein and now I’m working on a sequel with him is mind-blowing,” said Niles. “This is the project of a lifetime for me.”

FRANKENSTEIN ALIVE, ALIVE ($3.99, full color, 32 pages) will be available in stores in 2012.

30 DAYS OF NIGHT EVERY 30 DAYS

IDW Announces 30 DAYS OF NIGHT Ongoing Series

Steve Niles returns to pen an all-new monthly series beginning in October

San Diego, CA (July 5, 2011)—IDW Publishing today announced an all-new, ongoing 30 DAYS OF NIGHT comic book series, starting in October. Original co-creator Steve Niles returns to his first creation with this latest chapter in the 30 DAYS OF NIGHT series, joined by 30 Days of Night: Night, Again artist and The Maxx creator Sam Kieth. Niles and Kieth depict an epic story that shifts from Barrow, Alaska, to the city of angels, Los Angeles.

“I’ve been wanting to get back into the 30 Days of Night universe and shake things up for awhile now” said creator Niles. “I’ve just been waiting for the right moment, and the right artist. I have the right artist in Sam Kieth and the time is now.”

This terrifying new tale begins when a letter from Barrow, Alaska, carries a cryptic warning to a young, curious woman, leading her down a rabbit hole and face-to-face with her desires… and likely her demise. Elsewhere in Los Angeles, a vampire resurrection ignites, which could threaten the very way of life of all mankind.

“After several years away, Steve has returned to the 30 Days of Night world with a renewed vigor,” said editor Denton J. Tipton. “He has a great vision for the long game with surprises that even Steve didn’t see coming. And having Sam bring his mad genius to the project is like manna from heaven. Or, more appropriately, manna from hell.”

This new, ongoing series features a fresh cast of characters being introduced to the world of 30 DAYS OF NIGHT for the first time.  Fans are encouraged to ask their retailers about the rare Fiona Staples cover and vampire plush dolls.

“Honestly, I have nightmares because of this book,” added Tipton. “Steve and Sam are seriously deranged. I’ve read things that would make Freud blush. I’ve seen things that would make Chuck Norris vomit. Horror fans are going to love it.”

30 DAYS OF NIGHT #1 ($3.99, 32 pages, full color) will be available in stores in October 2011.

Dragon Prince # 1  Much like Big Hero # 1 here but in a different context all together. Fantasy, martial arts, wizards, dragons, magic, Ron Marz writes and a Stjepan Sejic variant cover. Can all this add up to greatness or just lameness? Tough call here, probably going to be a great read so pick it up anyway.
